Betrayed (House of Night #2)
by
P.C. Cast (Goodreads Author) ,

All any of us could talk about was Chris's disappearance and how bizarre it was that he had last been seen so close to the House of Night. I didn't want to believe it. But everything inside me said that the kid would be found, but he'd be found dead...

Much, much and much better than Marked. LOL jk, only 0.5 percent better xD
Heres the thing:

"Ohh! I see betrayed! Should I read it?!"

"Maybe I should, what if its good?!"
"Buh what if it sucks? Maybe I should not"

"Ohk, ohk. I am reading it!"
Now heres the story:
Theres this annoying Zoey who thinks shes the most amazing person in this world.
So wrong.

Half of this book is about Zoey waiting for his freaking Superman, Eric. And when he finally arrives, he does N-O-T-H-I-N-G except for hugging and singing...more

The main character, super special, gifted, popular, admired and generally perfect, newly- turned-vampire Zoey, is torn between three men (two boys and a man to be exact…).
1. Her uber-cute human ex-boyfriend Heath (Ohmygoodness!) whose - I quote - bulge in the pants she finds herself rubbing.
2. Her fellow vampire and uber-handsome current boyfriend Erik (Ohmydearsweetlord) whom the entire school considers to be her boyfriend but she is not really sure because even though they’ve dated a few times...more
While still a somewhat enjoyable read (if only because I like the idea behind the story & I enjoyed the ending), the overuse of the words (slut, stank slut, hag, hag bitch, skank, ho and ho bitch) was a bit much. It's always bothered me how casually teen girls throw around the word 'slut' as an insult .. not even teen girls, adults constantly toss that word around as well. It seems that if a girl isn't well liked, the automatic insult is to call them a 'slut' and it's really aggravating. I m...more
Don't do drugs, boys and girls. Drugs are for losers.
What else did we learn from this book? The lessons come fast and furious.*
Lesson one: Drugs make you a loser and only losers do drugs. In fact, if you have ever smoked pot or been to a keg party, that's reason enough that you might show up dead in the river.
Lesson two: If ginormous can't express an impossibly large enough amount for you, just put gi in front of other large words, and your editor will think you're totally up on what kids think...more

This one started off slow, but after about fifty pages, I was captivated. I believe the reason the beginning was slow was because it basically just went over everything that happened it the last book. However, once the story got going, I couldn't put the book down. It's a really emotional book, and deals with a wide range of themes including death, and as the title suggests, betrayal. The loyalty among Zoey's group never falters though, and it really strengthens the book. I thought this one was...more

I liked the Twilight Saga, but I'm CRAZY about The House of Night series. It's also about teenage vampires, but these teenagers are smart and funny and serious for the most part, yet still very believable as teenagers (I didn't really feel that way about Meyer's characters). I'm sure that's helped by the fact this is a mother and young adult daughter writing team who are absolutely fearless about what happens to their characters. Plus it's a new and interesting twist on vampirism, which I always...more

Good Lord, was this terrible.
It had a great concept: a vampire finishing school. Say it to yourself a few times. Vampire. Finishing. School. I envisioned a dark mirror of Hogwarts, something that would feed my irrational* obsession with boarding schools while twisting it down new, hopefully black-humor-laden pathways.
This was not the book I got, but I'm flexible. What I got was a flat, contrived exercise in demonstrating the problems of YA writing, fantasy writing, and romance writing.

Betrayed is the second novel in the House of Night series. Leaving off from the debut novel, Zoey is now the leader of the Dark daughters, an elite club of sorts, and...well that's kind of all that matters. Zoey isn't officially going out with Erik (So Heath was her almost boyfriend, and Erik is her unofficial boyfriend, and she doesn't think that she is a slut.) Aphrodite is still against her and it seems that during the one month period between these books, the only event worth knowing is that...more
This book stars off slow but gets better along the way. It fallows Zoey on her journey at the house of night. I got fustrated and wanted to quit reading the book so many times but im glad i didnt i really liked it. It got kind of sad in chapter 22 but other then that it was really cool. and if you read the book i think you'll get the chapter 22 thing jajaja soooo read the book and dont give up if you think its boring cuz trust me it will get better along the way!!!
This book decided me against reading any more by these authors, even though I have the third book waiting. It is all just too painful and, I know this will sound ridiculous, unbelievable (Zoey had only been marked as a vampire fledgling one month earlier!).
I just can't be bothered with the purile writing style, pathetic 'slut/ho/gay' references, allusions to current celebrities, double standards, etc. Eg. 3 boys on the go at once and she can't decide on one but she thinks nearly every other girl...more

I think my local library hates me. There are some books I've been waiting for months to get my hands on and then there's others like P.C. and Kristin Cast's Betrayed that come into my box almost instantaneously-oh, the humanity.
The good thing though is that I'm on Spring Break and had nothing to do this weekend other than babysit my father (long story short he decided to climb up a tree to rescued his crashed RC airplane and ended up breaking his foot). Wh...more

I'm a little frustrated with this series. It has the potential to be good, but it continually falls short. The main reason is the writing. It's horrible!
I even added a whole new shelf dedicated to the "worst-reads-ever." Like I said in my review of Marked, "the authors are trying too hard to be hip" and it's not being pulled off very well. Plus, a thesaurus can work miracles to spruce up any writing.

This second book of the House of Night series gets deeper into the creepy potential set up by the first book. Zoey Redbird, vampire fledgling, has unusual abilities for a fledgling, and her powers (and her attraction to the opposite sex) seem to be growing in this book.
Zoey has taken over as the head of the Daughters of Darkness, and wants to make it into something akin to a service club like you find at other schools. She researches ways to change the rituals into something positive and inclusi...more

This is the second book in the series "House of Night". I didn't enjoy the first book much, I thought it started out strange, the story was slow, and the language and a certain scene was a little much for me. BUT the last chapter or two got me a little intrigued and I wanted to see what happened, so I gave in and read the second book.
I thought the second one was far more interesting, and the language didn't seem as harsh this time (although it was still there). There was, once again, one little...more

I think I may love this book more than the first one. I love Jack, and I cry everytime I read this (again this is the forth or fith time I’ve read this). So in this book some teenagers are being killed and Zoeys trying to figure out what happened. It’s actually really hard to review this one, basically I’d say the same stuff about this novel as Marked. I like the same stuff about them. I like the realistic teenagers, and the way the characters act. I enjoyed learning more about the different cha...more
I really enjoy the idea of these books. I CAN'T STAND, however, the authors' tendency to re-tell the reader all of what happened in the previous books. I mean, who is reading book 2 without having read the other book? Do we really have to get the Cherokee translation for daughter again? PLEASE stop treating us like we are total morons with the memory of a two-year-old. The overt sexuality is a bit much for any teens that I teach, and I couldn't safely recommend this to any teens or pre-teens tha...more

This is such a wonderful series! I could barely put this second installment down. The Casts aren't afraid to make bold decisions regarding their characters which means anything can happen at any time. That's what keeps the pages turning late into the night.
ah wow betrayed was amazing even better than the first one.
some people don't like it, but i loved it.

Still REALLY enjoying this series.
The word that comes to mind when I think of it: fun.
I like the main character and the way Zoey responds to things. It feels real, like I'm listening to a close girlfriend recount all of her thoughts on something from the past. Furthermore, I like that she sounds very much like a teenager. It doesn't sound like an adult trying to be a teenager (like Stephenie Meyer, for instance), but contains slang and references very much in tune for someone that's sixteen year...more

I wanted to enjoy this book, because it was obviously a lot better than the first one, but heavy foreshadowing constantly ruined my reading experience. It made the characters seem extremely stupid - half the time I was like, the author's cramming information and hints down your throats and you're still completely clueless? Jeez.
Also, if I recall correctly, Zoey used to call Aphrodite & CO sluts in the first novel. In this book, Zoey is involved with no less than THREE guys. At once. Talk ab...more

Zoey has settled in at the House of Night. She feels more welcome there than she ever did in her own house. She takes over as the leader of the Dark Daughters and makes some pretty big changes to the group. She has doesn't have any trouble in the guy department either. Actually, she has to figure out how she feels about three guys. But then tragedy strikes when human teenagers are being brutally murdered and it looks like vampyres at the House of Night had something to do with it. When someone c...more
The good news is that I'm still interested. I like the characters. I'm curious about what is going to happen in the next installment and I find the storylines interesting. The bad news is I feel like there is very little structure to this book. There are some kids, plopped down into a school in Oklahoma, and off we go! At the same time, I understand that you don't want to slow a story down by explaining a backlog of stuff to readers. World building is tedious, I get that. But, sometimes, you jus...more
I'll be honest, the only reason why this has three stars is because of Aphrodite and Stevie Rae. Betrayed is slightly better than Marked...slightly.
Zoey is still your perfect chosen one that is always in the right and everyone else is in the wrong, blah, blah, blah. To all those who thought Marked was a waste of your time I encourage you to read Betrayed. It is written in a much more mature voice. Now that Zoey is the leader of the Dark Daughters she plans to change things. This review is a little hard to write because I really like how the book ended, but had some trouble with the rest. I am also trying to keep in mind that this story is based around 16-18 year olds.
I had higher hopes for Zoey other than the hipocritic hoe she's turning out to be. Outside of Aphrodite's sexual history with Erik, what other reason do they have to constantly refer to her with such derogatory names; especially the "twins" who themselves are no virgins. Note: After suffering through the first book, I was intending to not read the second, but a friend who owns all of the books convinced me that they get better as the series goes on. So I gave the others a try, but she was so wrong. They get worse.
