This book is new-agey and written for an Oprah audience with no background in philosophy, religion (east or west), or science. The parts of the book that are good are the parts stolen (without citation or even a nod) from either Plato's Republic or Buddhism. Zukav makes many grandiose metaphysical claims but doesn't feel the need to once offer an argument as to how he has come about this knowledge he has about; for instance, Angels, Teachers, how dolphin souls become human souls, or why souls ...more

To review the titles of the chapters-there is Evolution, Karma, Reverence, Heart, Intuition, Light, Intention, Choice, Addiction, Relationships, Souls, Psychology, Illusion, Power, and Trust. I found Reverence and Intention to be the most enlightening. Most self-help/self-awareness books do not approach the subject of respect, honor, and reverence within the karmic framework of actions and reactions. This book has been really helpful. I had some trouble getting into it because some of the writing is a bit cyclical and hard to read. But I think this is mostly because the subject being dealt with doesn't really have a good language to express the ideas. Therefore reading it from this perspective it is a really well written book that deals with concepts that don't fit into the English language so well.

The sole purpose of this book seems to be to set him up as a guru to sell his workshops. He constantly makes broad unsupported universal statements and asserts things without evidence. I heard his "Dancing Wu Li Masters" was an interesting read so I picked up this one as the title seemed interesting to me. I thought I might get into something deep in the way of the relation of matter to energy and information. Nope. This guy has gone off the deep end (as a sufi friend of mine so generously put it). I remembered having read this book when rereading Alan Watts' The Wisdom of Insecurity, not that the two are comparable. Watts is carefully reasoning his way through the most profound questions of life, and Zukav simply makes bold claims without any indication of how he arrived at them. Maybe if the author's writing style was different I could have finished it, but I couldn't make it through a whole page without my mind starting to wander to other things.
On top of that, the author doesn't give any rhyme or reason why he thinks these things. I could get past that, if the majority of what he suggested resonated with me, but some of it just seemed so arbitrary. Heard Gary Zukav interviewed on Oprah a couple of years ago. The premises of his thinking were very new to me then. I was intrigued, bought the book, read the first chapter... slowly... letting it sink in. I set the book aside, but never forgot the challenges he posed to me in those first pages.

Hmmm, well I was reading an article about JayZ and it mentioned his favorite books, Seat of the Soul was one. Since I had read another on his favorite list, I thought I'd try this one. I guess I was a little surprised that these books were on his list, or maybe that he spent significant time reading at all. Anyway, this book seemed similar to other things I've read. This book was very enjoyable for me because it expanded my mind and lead me to answers or ideas that I never really thought about or could put my finger on. I love the concept of how we are multi-sensory beings now instead of just purely five sensed individuals. It makes total sense because of technology we don’t have to physically work as hard so our time has been spent (as a species) thinking more so we are now multi-sensory human beings. It might have been hard to read if I was not already a hippy chick. You know, lots of new thoughts and concepts to deal with-but no, I was raised by a hippy chick and the only thing to adjust to is applying (remembering to apply) these when need arises. It did not save the marriage in which I was in and trying to fix when i read it...tho we are friends and maybe we wouldn't be if we were all bundled up in hate for each other. So thanks Gary!
I read this book, because Oprah liked it and it was based on some of the understandings that I am learning more about. The first time I read it, I got into it. then by the third chapter, it totally went over my head. I sat it down. Came back to it after reading some other really heady material. Then I got it. It made total sense and I couldn't figure out what it was that stumped me before, so anyway. Good read.
You cannot choose your intentions consciously until you become conscious of each of the different aspects of yourself. If you are not conscious of each part of yourself, you will have the experience of wanting to say, or to intend, one thing, and finding yourself saying or intending something else. You will want your life to move in one direction, and find that it is moving in another. You will desire to release a painful pattern from your experience, and see it reappear yet again.

This book is a blue print of reality from the author's point of view. It is grounded in enough science to give it a sense of authenticity. I did enjoy it for the fact that it gives me something to think about. It presents a different perspective, but has a sense of familiarity to it.

I'd read this book some years ago and enjoyed reading it, so when I found it on a bookshelf while on holiday, I dipped into it again.
What interested me most were the different lifetimes Zukav's patient described. There were some great details, and the fact that the patient benefitted from reliving these past lives and was healed in her present incarnation is simply marvellous.

This book absolutely changed my life. I filled an entire notebook with quotes from it. It explained to me all the questions that I have had and some I had never even thought about. Gary Zukov very carefully and with only good intentions created this wonderful book. I have recommended it to everyone, given copies of it away, because I so loved what it had to say.

I read this book and then I went to one of those Gary Zukav seminars. I felt so skeptical the entire time. It was like everyone was in some sort of Gary Zukav trance. I got over it pretty quick. He seems to be in it for the money. Who wouldn't be? He keeps writing the same kind of books. He keeps having seminars. His wife and he call each other 'beloved.' It seems phony to me.

When I read this book in the 1990's I must have been in some emotional state! I was so moved by the book. Zukav became my favorite author, but as I got older and re-read the book,I was perplexed. I did not feel the same, because I had grown spiritually and learned a lot of things that I challenge in his book now.
A book that challenges the way I view the world. I loved Zukav's other books ('Soul Stories' and 'The Dancing Wu Li Masters'), so I assumed I'd devour this. It was a struggle at times. I cannot say that I agree with all of his theories, but they are still food for spiritual contemplation.
I understand why so many readers gave this book a bad review based on the fact that Zukav really can't prove any of his theories, but anyone who picks up a book on spiritual philosophy should understand that from the beginning. I thought it was really interesting the way he explained the influence of past lives on karma and how to eliminate bad karma. I liked it, insightful and the evolution thing I got. Not many folk indrocutnated in the acedmic field may like this book however as it is more about spirituality and a spirutual journie so it may go over their heads, but I enjoyed it and much easier than the Dancing Wul Masters.
A national bestseller that is a wonderful book written by a scientist (Quantum physicist) with a philosophers heart. It’s about achieving true authentic power. Gary has been a frequent visitor to Oprah Winfrey's show and has written mind opening books.
Absolutely spoke to me. And will certainly reread. Finally, a voice that pulls together all those radical ideas I have been having and reading about, into a coherent and meaningful whole. Seems to be the basis for Buddhism; but all religions seem to apply.
I read this book on my way to Las Vegas ten years ago. I wouldn't say there are any huge revelations in the book, as it took a lot from other philisophical ideas and religion view points and put a new age spin on it. It did remind me a lot of Plato's Republic and I was excited to see someone write from that viewpoint. I still use the ideas in the book to help me today and it has stuck with me all these years.

One of my favorite books. I've read it 4 times over 2 years, in my opinion it sums of the essence of life and speaks to me clearly. Besides, the bible I depend on this book as a guide as I surf the turbulant water, that is life.
Learn what life is really all about. Gives answers to questions without a Q&A Format to all of those things in

This is New Age rhetoric. There is nothing substantial in this book. It is written assumptions into religious nonsense and goes nowhere. I also take issue with the claim that animals have no soul.
