Gaston Leroux’s novel The Phantom of the Opera, first published in 1910, remained a perennial favorite throughout the twentieth century and into the early 2000s. It was adapted to several popular motion pictures and into one of the most successful stage musicals of all time. Its main character, Erik, is a romantic figure whose appeal reaches across different cultures and times. He is a sensitive soul, an accomplished composer and musician whose great unfinished work, Don Juan Triumphant, is described as breathtakingly beautiful by the one person he allows to hear it; he is an object of pity, whose face has been disfigured from birth, causing him to hide behind a silk mask; and he is hopelessly in love with a young woman whom he can never seriously hope will love him back. At the same time, he a dangerous, menacing figure, lurking in the hidden catacombs beneath the opera house and blackmailing those who will not bow to his whims. He can hear things said in privacy and can create catastrophes that might or might not be the accidents that they seem to be.

Like other precursors of modern superheroes, such as the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Frankenstein’s creature, Erik balances sympathy with horror, admiration with revulsion. Set in one of the most beautiful buildings in Europe, this story of the love triangle between the phantom, the young peasant-born opera singer he loves, and the dashing viscount who she loves, was written as a thriller, and it continued to excite the imaginations of readers into the twenty-first century.

Experience for yourself the classic story of love, music, and murder which has captivated people for generations. When new managers take over the running of the Paris Opera House, they make light of warnings about a mysterious ghost who haunts the theater. But this Phantom is all too real, and attempts to ignore his demands have dangerous consequences. When a beautiful young singer becomes the object of fascination by both the Phantom and a handsome viscount, disaster is inevitable. Leroux's story, which he claims to have based on real events, has provided the basis for many adaptations on stage and screen. It is a thrilling and atmospheric novel which should not be missed.

Christopher Cazenove, formerly Ben Carrington on TV's Dynasty, brings his depth of understanding to this performance of Phantom of The Opera.
Is there a ghost or coincidence in the opera house of Paris? Is the prima donna crazy, or is she visited by the Angel of Music who teaches her to sing and perform as never before?
Phantom is a story of stage, screen and literature. This version will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Filled with the spectacle of the Paris Opera House in the nineteenth century, this classic work of mystery and suspense remains a riveting journey into the dark regions of the human heart. The tale begins as an investigation into the strange stories of an “opera ghost,” legendary for making the performers at this great Paris art emporium apprehensive when they sit alone in their dressing rooms or walk alone in the building’s labyrinthine corridors. Some even think they’ve seen the ghost in evening clothes moving in the shadows. But it isn’t until the triumphant performance of the Beautiful Christine Daaé that the Phantom of the Opera begins his attacks -- striking terror in the hearts of everyone in the theater. A story that has captured the imagination of audiences in adaptations throughout the century, Phantom continues to thrill audiences to this day as an unparalleled work of sheer entertainment.
