What a truly beautiful, romantic book, with so many sigh-worthy moments, so many humorous moments, lots of wickedly sexy dialogue...and featuring some very satisfying emotional growth from both the hero and heroine. I've always loved the stammering, shy, yet beautiful red-headed 'Wallflower' character of Evie Jenner, and could hardly wait to read her story. But when the hero of this book, 32-year-old Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent was introduced in It Happened One Autumn, I had my doubts about him. ...more

Sebastian is one of the sexiest heroes ever written. Gosh the man just makes me melt. Out of all the Wallflowers, Evie is my favorite, hands-down. I thought she was an interesting character and I wanted to know more about her, although she didn't seem to say much. But what she did and didn't say sparked my curiosity about her. I knew I was eager to read her book. I was overjoyed that Ms. Kleypas paired her with Sebastian. I saw a possibility there between them, don't ask me why. Literally, I sai ...more

''How is Sebastian St. Vincent today?'' was the text message I had received this morning after my boyfriend had left for work.
''He's fine thank you.'' Was my reply with a huge grin on my face. Fucking bastard.
''Are you moaning his name?'' was his next reply.
''No, boyfriend, just yours with his picture in my mind.''
''He's blond, you don't like blonds.'' This was beginning to look like a full attack on my fantasies.
''I'm on trying to find myself a face for him.''

Devil in Winter is, no surprise here, another winner in Lisa Kleypas' Wallflower series.

In my opinion, this story was a deeper, slightly darker installment as we watch Evie escape the clutches of her horrid aunt and uncle, and take the necessary steps to remain free of them. It was a pleasure watching her overcome her shyness and learn to stand up for herself and fight for what she wants - to be with her father who is dying of consumption and to ease him through his final days. 5++ stars – Historical Romance

It’s no wonder that The Devil in Winter is a Kleypas fan favorite and historical romance reader’s dream because the beautiful, touching, and evocative love story of awkwardly shy wallflower with profound, quiet inner strength, Evangeline Jenner, and dashing libertine and unscrupulous, villainous rake Sebastian, Viscount St. Vincent, is absolute magic. Verrry big 5 stars for this remarkable, beautifully romantic, top favorite, keeper!

"Good God. I don't believe St. Vincent and the word 'celibacy' have ever been mentioned in the same sentence before."

This is the third book of the wonderful Wallflower series. IMHO, it is the best historical romance series! And this installation is beautiful, endearing, fun and touching. I loved how comfortable they were with each other from the beginning. Even though they don't realize it at the ti
Colour me baffled. Why does everyone love this book?

At least finally we have a genuine rake here – meaning a total selfish, overbearing asshole. He is a rake alright. He is also a rake in need of money. And then we have a shy, stuttering, abused heroine who has grown up in a family that can be described as dysfunctional. In a way it all makes sense, she would gravitate towards overbearing assholes, while he enjoys being one AND getting praise for being a little better than her fucked-up family.

This is one of the loveliest historical romances I've ever read. Sebastian is a darling. Indolent, witty and an amoral rake, he constantly surprises himself by his feelings for Evie and his efforts on her behalf. From the beginning he protects and takes care of her. He never mocks her stutters or social clumsiness. The scene where he asks her what it will take for him to get back into her bed is awww-worthy.

Evie is a worthy heroine. Spirited but not foot-stampingly annoying, stubborn but not st
As I read the third book in the Wallflower series, I couldn’t get the image of a young strong woman taming a blue-eyed dragon. The dragon though was a handsome rake; Sebastian St. Vincent who at first comes across as cold, selfish and callous thinking of himself and only his self. So when Evie comes to him with a deal to save him from the so-called poorhouse, he takes the deal with both hands like a greedy child. Evie sees Sebastian as her only way out from the abuse of her family and to see her ...more

My love is upon you.

This isn’t your ordinary romance. It’s real. It’s dry. It’s cold….like winter. The perfect book for curling up in a big comfy chair with some English breakfast tea (my favorite) while it’s raining or snowing outside (or you can just read this book all year long, like me).

Sebastian, Viscount St. Vincent -- what a hot mess. The total degenerate who, after marrying solely for money, discovers he has not only a heart but also a talent for running his bride's inherited business. I do believe that LK has created the hottest bad boy in all of Romancelandia (although Lord Dain is a close second).
I have recently been reading Lisa Kleypas' “Wallflower” series and so far, I have enjoyed the series immensely! This time, I have read the third book in the “Wallflower” series called “Devil in Winter” and in this book, we are introduced to the relationship between Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent and Evangeline Jenner! Full of drama, forbidden love, and a rake that you would have never seen reforming himself, “Devil in Winter” will certainly go up any romance novel fans' alley!

I can't even begin to express how much I love LK's writing. She has become my favourite writer. She writes EVOCATIVELY. There is no one else that can instill so much meaning, passion, longing and desire from the mere use of words.
I have also come to crave her HR's like air. I find myself missing them when I turn to contemporary romance or PNR. I can only stay away for so long before I'm itching for a fix. Sounds like an addiction right? RIGHT.

I read an historical romance and I loved it. Do I need an Intervention?

Yeah, yeah, I know what you think : there's often something in historical romance novels that brings an aftertaste of Me. Man. Ruling the world. and yes, I can't deny it. That's why they rarely cross my path -

What? Call it self-preservation.

That, plus the fact they bore me more often than not, I must confess.

So why was I willing to reread A Devil in Winter in English, years after my first read in French? Wants to know?

OMG. This series is amazing. Seriously, I don't know why I've waited so long to read it.I adore everything about it, from the stories and the dialogs to every single character. I never thought I would like it this much. Maybe it is Kleypas's writing style or maybe I felt for the characters right away, but since 3 days ago I can't seem to stop reading about the wallflowers.

In this installment, we have 2 very different characters.
First we have Evangeline Jenner, which is the shy wallflower. I lov
I started AND finished Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas in one night. You all were right, it was a fantastic read and this has got to be the best Kleypas I've read so far. Almost didn't seem like the same author (for me). Extremely sensual and sexy if you can believe that! (I usually associate Kleypas's writing as more on the purply prose side, but not this one! She's upped the wattage with DIW!) I just adored Sebastian and of course Evie made my heart melt. Loved seeing her come into her own and ...more
Another excellent book in an excellent series!

The hero, Lord St Vincent, just steals the show. He oozes charm, chivalry and major sex appeal but he is such a first class rake at the same time. He tries to be domineering but in the end he's the sweetest man looking after Evie's needs--it's as if he's born to do this. This book will have you laughing and crying as well as a whole bunch of other emotions in between. The sex alone (and you don't have to wait for it here!) will have you gasping for a

Like I just said in another 'mini-review', I am in no mind to write a decent review for a book I, quite surprisingly, really enjoyed. My dear friend, Anna, who also loathes historicals, insisted that this book had a hero I just had to meet and that all other follies with the story would fall away when I met and fell in love with him. She was right.

Silence fell over the scene, with MacPhee and his two d

This was my favorite of the three I think... It was a great story of how this completely disallusioned rake could come to care so much for someone and become such a protector. Very good sexual tension as well. I love the little bet they have about his fidelity. A must read for Lisa Kleypas fans!
I've been thinking that someone should start a group in Facebook or do something, urging Kleypas to write a book about St Vincent and Evie as a married couple. Can anyone really get tired reading about him? I just finished re-reading it and then spent half a day, re-rereading my favorite passages. How pathetic is that?

This is the third book in the "Wallflower" series. In the previous two books we are introduced to Evangeline (Evie) Jenner. She is the daughter of a gaming club owner, has a severe stammer, is extremely shy, has a beautiful heart & character, has brazen red hair, gorgeous blue eyes, and freckles. When she's around her best friends and adoptive sisters Lillian, Daisy, and Annabelle her stutter literally disappears.

The hero of this book was the villain in It Happened One Autumn. I despised him and wondered how Lisa would ever be able to change my mind and allow my heart to soften towards him. She did it. Sebastian St. Vincent is now my ne
