5 STARS PLUS!! This book was damn near perfect for me! I looooooved it!!!! All the characters, the interwoven storylines, the drama, the love, the passion, the angst, the fear, the doubt, the sheer happiness - it was all so good!! I know I really like a book when I start reading it really slow, taking in all the details, because I simply don't want it to end! That's how this one was for me! One of the best books I've read and it's f/f to boot! Woohoo!!!!!! :D
I just read “And Playing the Role of Herself” for the fifth time, and enjoyed it immensely again. For me, this is an amazing love story. And obviously completely irresistible. :D

I really dug this romance. It had in-jokes about fandom and fanfic, it took place on the set of a crime show (it's everything I want Law & Order to be!), and it had a romance between gorgeous women. After reading a good heap of Radclyffe, it was nice to read a romance by someone new who didn't use the same tropes over and over again (Radclyffe, please stop trying to kill your characters due to some terrible disease they have that they refuse to tell anyone about!)

Caidence (Caid) and Robyn are actresses, both in their thirties, trying to keep their relationship private. Robyn is gay and had bad experiences with women. Caid is gay too, but never kissed a woman before. I liked them immediately. :)

I also liked how things started, slow and sweet, and I loved the fact that Caid is the one who helps Robyn to see that what they have is special. At this point, I was ready to give this book 5 stars, but then came the big "but”…

The story was very funny, but it star

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, mainly because I have low hopes for any books telling a lesbian love story. I had asked a friend for good/bad lesbian book recommendations and this one was actually good. For starters, the author could actually write. I wasn't reading a poorly edited story with flat writing. Her characters actually took shape and had personalities that were likable. One thing that grated my nerves? Robyn is so hot. Like she is really hot. Like for real for real? She's so ...more
5 EFFIN STARS! Love it! Worth every single cent! I was hooked by this story. I felt as if i was reading my favorite fanfiction. And that joke about fanfiction at the beginning, lol, yeah I feel related since I've read tons of those on the internet.

I love that it is a real ROMANCE and it isn't about smut at all, but a lesbian romance with a decently valid plot. The author made me believe in the chemistry between Caid and Robyn. They are totally adorable together. Hence there're some flaws (Like

This novel has a warm place in my heart as it was the first of the genre that I read about 2 years ago. A friend suggested it and I reluctantly took on vacation, and **now I'm hooked** Just finished re-reading which was great because I 1) took my time, 2) appreciated the nuances more and 3) have better perspective after reading > 100 other lesbian novels. I have to say this is easily one of my top 3 favorites.

The first of the book (the courtship) set the hook pretty deep. Some reviewers have
I’m a bit mad that only towards the ending did this book get anywhere close to as good as I wished it to be from the start. In all fairness, it had already gotten better as their relationship took its first steps and continued to develop, whereas while Caid was only pining over Robyn, it was utterly annoying how often the writing seemed like bad fanfiction. I ended the first chapters seriously questioning all the great reviews and ratings I’d seen, and by the end I had kind of accepted that this ...more

I don't really read romance novels, so perhaps I'm being a bit harsh - not judging the book for what it really is. I suppose I was hoping for more because of the positive reviewer consensus, perhaps?

All I can say is I was not impressed.

The story was by-the-numbers (and it had the potential to explore so much more! The whole "under the spotlight, in the closet" dynamic is RICH with possibility).

The characters weren't interesting or likeable on their own (oh, your hobbies are running and being a

Funny, intriguing autobiography of Miss. Harris. Great main and supporting characters.... whenever I get bored I am going back to this book and having a laugh at Miss. Harris's description of Robin Ward, Liz & mysterious events of her life..... :)))) Definitely worth more than 1 read 5/5, one of the best L.Romance I ever read!!!!!!! This book definitely worth at least more than 1 read.

This is the best lesbian romance I have read in a long time, and I have read a lot of them. I love them and give them a lot of leeway because the subject matter is so close to my heart. This book needs no such latitude; for me, it is right up there in quality and enjoyment with any fiction book I have read, actually -- the characters are great, I loved them from the minute they were introduced; the romance was both believable and hot; the twists were unexpected but did not seem contrived at all. ...more

I started this book a couple times, but kept pushing it aside. for some reason thinking i might not like it... perhaps the beautiful, famous actress thing didn't appeal, not sure why. but when i finally sat down and started into it, i found that my preconceived notions were dead wrong.

perhaps the plot, actresses falling in love, didn't do much for me, but let me tell you... the chemistry the author creates between these characters will make the plot a triviality. it is absolutely amazing, how, w

This book is one of the best ones I've read so far. Main characters really likable. Secondary characters funny and lovable (except for the villain in the story of course). A plot well written and believable. It was a very enjoyable reading.
Why didn't I give it 5 stars? Well, in my humble opinion, the better the book, the bigger my intrigue to get to know what goes thru the other main character's mind (Robyn), specially in this one where this character seemed to have gone through a lot of things

One of the books I've started several times - because I'd heard from different sides that they liked it - but I just wasn't interested.

So, a couple of nights ago I woke up at 3 a.m. for no apparent reason. And couldn't go back to sleep. So I grabbed this, and turns out I couldn't put it down. I'm not sure what was different this time around, but it totally drew me in.

I think it was the characters. Even though they fall into some of the pitfalls that make lesfic seem all the same - they are, of c

This book gets so many good reviews, therefore I got curious. Of course it was also the story that appealed to me. Well let me tell you, I wish I had read the book much sooner. All the good reviews are well deserved. What a wonderful book! Great characters and what a beautiful romance, slow build as it should be. I could not put down the book and had to know how it continued. Romance of the best Quality. I'm looking forward to other books by the author.

Ok so if you want a rest from more serious reading (as I did) and want nothing more than a lot of sex scenes between two privileged, incredibly beautiful and ridiculously rich, selfish protagonists surrounded by privileged, rich, beautiful and full of privileged "niceness" characters (with some exceptions but bear with me) then why not read this book?

It has all the cliches- angsty emotions that make little sense but add suspense (of sorts) between sex scenes, a sibling that doesn't quite get it

This book was great. I honestly can't say enough about it. I loved Caid and Robyn. They are gorgeous, smart, strong characters and I really like their story. Lane's writing is spot on for me. I LOVE the first person narrative, and she is outstanding with dialogue. As I read the book, I actually can hear Caid's voice telling me the story, her laugh, the nervousness that overtakes her when Robyn is around. I haven't read many books over the years because honestly nothing has captured me and kept m ...more

I liked this book but I didn't love it. I read it through and really enjoyed the beginning more than the middle which contained, to me, artificial conflicts and bizarre inventions to bring the two women back together. If the second plot contrivance had not been used I could of stood the first.

I thought the author missed a chance to have the lesbian plot lines of their TV show reflect their blossoming real life romance.

I didn't really feel the power of the relationship as it evolved, the superf

Even for the genre - it was ridden with clichés and used cheap plot devices which I honestly could have done without. The characters were likeable enough and the author can write. There were some bits that made me chuckle but I personally didn't enjoy it as the author made it a point to avoid writing difficult scenes and wasn't even original in how she got out of the fights. I find that sort of writing cheap.

And as a separate note - really fugly cover.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Great book. Tamer than I'm accustomed to, but very well written. I could have used more interaction between the two main characters, it just seemed they were apart more than together. Other than that, very enjoyable book to read. 4.75 stars.

Fabulous novel. My top five romances of 2007. This book is a pure delight. 'Wonderful' comes to mind to best describe this book. The reading is pure joy. There are three main characters and they are simply a treat to get to know. Each chapter is as terrific as the one before. Laugh out loud funny - I thought I couldn't get enough of Caidence or "Caid'' as those close to her call her. The novel unfolds from her perspective and she is a delight to listen to. She is funny, confident in her career a ...more

This is one of my all time favorite lesbian fiction books of all time. I have read and re-read this book dozens of times. I never get tired of it. I won't go over the plot and story line of the book because you can read the back cover for that. I will tell you why I LOVED this book.

First off, the characters don't fall madly in love in the first 24 hours. There is no ridiculous "soul mate" crap. Its a delicious journey on 2 women falling in love, their doubts, their hopes, their fears and then th

This is one of the most fantastic book I ever read.

The romance takes time to develop, two lesbians (or one is bisexual?) have to deal with their insecurities, misunderstandings, as well as the media who keeps poking their heads into their business. Together, they strive to overcome those conflicts and every of their moments scream cute and sweet.

The author did such a good job dragging me along to her romantic ride, and I never want it to stop. I want it to continue, how heartbroken I felt when

Could have used a bit of editing, but the premise were enough to keep me interested despite the thin plot. I don't read romance regularly so I can't say how it compares on that front. I wish the author had shown more dialogue between Caidence and Robyn (btw, yes, all the names in this book are that stupid). There'd be four pages describing a sex scene followed by "...cautiously felt each other on topics of politics, religion, and musical tastes..." I would much rather have heard that conversatio ...more

I read a review that this is a must-read for a lesbian romantic novels. I was very skeptical at first. Once I started, I couldn't put it down and I was so giddy. I even giggled while reading it. I also read that this is a fan fiction of Rizzoli and Isles show (never seen it) but it reminded me of Law and Order SVU and still hoping that Benson or Rollins will fall in love with some girl. It was just nice because it had a good ending. There were enough drama and realistic issues that kept me turni ...more

I can totally understand why this book has gotten such high ratings. It tells a believable love story complete with conflict and background stories. The supporting characters are strong and memorable, particularly Liz and Josh. Some novels immerse you in moods and ambience, environment and setting. I coudn't even imagine how much I would enjoy this book!

I usually don't read any kind of romance and stick to philosophical field, but lately I had some kind of an urge to explore the lesbian world of literature and this book is by far one of my favorite ones.

It's very well-written, easy to read (which is a major factor as English is not my first language), both main and minor characters are more than likeable, dialogues are funny and very lifelike, and more importantly, this is one of those bo
