I almost didn't pick this up, because I thought it would be like The Lovely Bones. While that's one of my favorite books, its difficult subject matter wasn't one I was in the mood for. But this is a lighthearted, chick lit version. Molly Marx starts out the book already dead, observing her funeral from the Duration. She's a great narrator and will reel you in from the first page. The story goes back and forth between Molly in the Duration and Molly's past - how she died, and then her life as it

Have you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall while your friends and family, loved and loathed, talked about you and your possible murder? This is the adventure of Molly Marx. She allows us to join her from the fly on the wall perspective in the present, but also offers us glimpses into past scenes from her life as well. I was afraid this was going to be heart-wrenching like Lovely Bones, but it was nothing like it at all. Especially in regards to how the author deals with the scene of Molly'

Have you ever wondered what lives your friends and family would live after you died abruptly and surprisingly? Well, for Molly Marx, this isn't a hypothetical situation, but reality. In this quirky but very witty story about a woman (Molly) who dies after going out biking and drowning in a river in New York. Was it murder? Was it suicide? Or was it an accident? Readers of this novel have the pleasure of getting to see Molly's life before her death; then, also seeing how the people in her life ar

Molly Marx is dead and has just arrived in the hereafter. It doesn’t take her long to find out that she can still keep tabs on her husband Barrie, the plastic surgeon; Annabel, her beautiful four-year-old daughter whom Molly misses terribly; Lucy, Molly’s crazy, out-spoken twin sister; her nightmare mother-in-law, Kitty; and lastly, her best friend and confidante, Brie.

I really enjoyed this sassy black comedy/mystery story. Told from the point of view of a murdered (?) woman, like a lighthearted version of The Lovely Bones, this is the story of a complicated woman and those she loved - her twin sister, best friend, husband, daughter and secret lover. While in the Duration (afterlife), she is able to watch her family and friends cope with her death. In particular, she follows the handsome Detective Hicks who is charged with determining how she died, and if s

Molly Marx dies at the young age of 35. Proceeding her death, she finds herself in the Duration. While here, she helplessly watches her family and friends mourn her passing. The Duration allows her to hear their inner most thoughts (some she wishes she knew while still alive). It’s here where Molly is truly able to make amends with herself, her marriage and the events leading to her death.

When I found out that Goodreads gave away books through their First Reads program, I signed up for as many books as I could. When I won one of the first books that I was eligible, I couldn't believe my luck.
When the book arrived, and I saw the cover, I realized that it may not have been luck that helped me to win, but an attempt at gender equality. I think that I was probably the only male who registered to win it, so they didn't have any other option but to choose me. :)

I was sure I was going to enjoy this book, figured it just to be fluffy ChickLit and end it at that.
It was more and I'm so glad.
The premise of this book is what hooked me. Molly is dead and she is looking over her life and trying to help her loved ones navigate their grief and the mystery of how she died.
Why not five stars? Well, because it is a lighthearted read and I'm trying to save 5 stars for those books that I just clutch to my chest and sigh deeply w More...

Molly Divine Marx is dead!
But that's just the beginning of this book. Molly is in her "Duration". Duration= being able to see your friends, family, etc. and hear their thoughts, yet not be able to do anything to contribute to what they're thinking, feeling, etc. (a little reminiscent of The Lovely Bones). With her guide "Bob" she is able to navigate through this new state of being and is able to flit from one person to another as they try to solve the mystery of h More...

I would like to start out by saying, that originally, I wasn't sure this was my type of book but was interested in the premise. As the story progressed, feeding you tidbits of Molly’s life and her time in the Duration, I was slowly pulled in. At first I wasn’t exactly sure where the story was going or what the overall point was. But I have to say that Sally Koslow’s character development was phenomenal. I really felt like I knew these characters. I knew which I would be friends with, identi

I use the library like a candy store and make lots of impulse purchases. Many are disappointing but once in awhile I find a gem like this one. I'd never heard of Sally Koslow (mcCall's editor) or this book but I fell in love with the main character immediately. Molly has just died when the book begins, leaving behind her husband and young daughter. There's some mystery about her death, was it an accident, was she murdered, did she go off the bike path intentionally. The mysterious circumstances

Another 3.5 that I have rounded up instead of down. The choice of which way to go seems to narrow down to how well written the book is. Those that, in spite of any problems I have with the story, are written well or have incorporated unique and creative themes or characters always rise to a 4. Those whose writing was just run of the mill or whose characters are nothing out of the ordinary, round down to a 3.
With this book, the writing, the character and situation were interesting and More...

Loved this book. This was one of the first books my friends recommended I read when I got my nook and I have been reading tons ever since.
The circumstances of Molly Marx’s death may be suspicious, but she hasn’t lost her joie de vivre. I have a few books on my nightstand already, but I picked up this book to have a lighter read option. I liked the premise of the book, Molly in Duration watching her family and friends as the mystery of her death is unraveled. The book got me hooked into wanting to know what did happen to Molly Divine Marx.
I thought the characters of the book were well developed and even likable despite many of their character traits were not to my liking. I think Molly's life story was well develop More...

This book came seemingly out of nowhere, and completely shocked me. I loved it! I was a tad bit wary about the whole plot before I read it...a dead 35-year-old woman following her loved ones from Duration. However, the more I progressed through the book, the more I couldn't stop reading it. There were so many small things in the plot that grabbed me by the heart and yanked. The whole story revolves around a detective trying to figure out how she died, and at the beginning I was dying--pun includ

I wish I could give this book 3 and a half stars. The premise of the book is that the narrator, Molly Marx is recently deceased and is commenting on the events that occur after her mysterious death.
The writing was good. Witty, despite the story being a bit morbid. I liked some her analogies because they made Molly and her thoughts/emotions more real. By the middle of the book I was able to relate to Molly and empathize with her as a woman.

Molly Divine Marx is in quite a state - a dead state. After passing over into the Duration at the young age of 35 and under mysterious circumstances, Molly has a lot of time to ponder her present, while one foot remains in the past, when she was alive.

Molly Marx dies at the tender age of thirty-five, but she is unable to pass into the next life and held into a place of duration, witnessing life continuing to unfold around her. As she stands at her funeral, she is faced with wondering who at the funeral murdered her. While it sounds like the premise for a deep novel, it actually moves into a lighthearted book of fantastic chick lit as Molly reflects on the past and follows the life that is happening around her.

Browsing through the books in the "new" section at the library, I picked this up thinking "Oh good, something silly and fun to read after reading about war." Plus, I liked the alliteration. It was really funny to begin - Molly Marx is the narrator, and she's dead. It starts out with her complaining about how her funeral is going down, which for some reason I thought was really great.

I liked this book very much -- except ..... It's an interesting premise -- a woman is dead, who was young and healthy with a husband and child, and we don't know if this was murder, suicide, or an accident. Her family and friends mourn while she watches from "The Duration," a place LDS people might recognize as the spirit world. She has some powers now that she has passed on -- it takes her no time at all to move from one place to another, she can watch people's actions but can also

A “whodunit” in the hereafter, we follow Molly Marx in spirit form, as she relives the high (and low) points of her life and tries to figure out exactly how she ended up dead. The ending, despite supplying the “who, how, and why” of it, is somehow less than satisfying. Though the reader knows those crucial elements, we are left wondering if the loved ones left behind ever find out the real story.

"I really wanted to love this book but I just couldn't. For some reason the book just didn't hold me. I would put it down for days on end and read other books in between. [return][return]I loved the premise, Molly is in the ""Duration"" watching over her family and friends and trying to determine who killed her and why. To begin, I really had my doubts about how much I could enjoy reading a book that followed a woman, Molly, from the moment of death. It's a bit depressing, to always realize you know the end, especially when you fall in love with that character, which is exactly what happened. I loved the character of Molly, and though it was sad to realize I knew the tragic end of Molly from the get go, I simply could not stop reading the book. I can't recall ever reading a book where the back drop is some f

"The Late, Lamented Molly Marx" (I love the alliteral title) was a fairly quick read, and I'd categorize it under "Chick Lit Mystery." There were no scary scenes, no gory parts. Molly Marx has recently died in a tragic biking accident. Who was responsible? Was it a suicide? Was it murder? If so, was it the wealthy cheating husband? One of his mistresses? Her snooty mother-in-law? Her fling? Her sister? Her best friend?

I really enjoyed this book!
Molly Marx passes away and goes to a place called The Duration. While there, she can watch what is happening in the life that she had to leave behind.
The story was mostly centered around Molly's life before and after her death on earth.
There were times I laughed out loud at Molly's escapades and descriptions of people, places and things.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. I tried for the first several chapters and it just wasn't happening. That's when I realized that not only did I not care for the book The Late, Lamented Molly Marx, I didn't care for the character of Molly herself. And it's difficult to enjoy a book when you don't like the narrator. Frankly, none of the characters did much for me. On top of a lack of likable characters, there was also the issue of plot--I don't see how something can be categorized
