We borrowed this book from our local library from a display that declared that October is National Cookie Month. Who knew? In any case, this looked like a sweet (groan) and fun book to read aloud with our girls. But before I could even get started, our girls started singing the song all by themselves. Apparently our youngest (normally pretty reticent to sing or act even in front of us) learned this song in school and was all too happy to teach us the rhythm and the lyrics. What a nice surprise!...more

This is a truly fun book to read to young children. It would be wonderful to read to a group, or even just one sleepy child at bedtime or naptime. This book keeps children guessing as to who took the cookies from the cookie jar. Children love to try to guess who the culprit was and to follow the crumbs in the book. Even if they already knew who the culprit was, they will enjoy the rythem to the story. This book is really based on a song, so it can be sung to the children, or if you are musically...more

This is a wonderful book that can be use it at the beginning of the classes because has a funny rhythm to introduce children names as singing. This will make the class more familiar with children as they create friendship singing.Singing the song children will create curiosity of who took the cookies from the cookie jar? And the different animals the song mention during singing.
Learning experience: Everyone repeat who took the cookie from the cookie jar three times and call the name of one child...more

It's a good book to read. Fun and silly, just right for children to remain entertained throughout the story.

Learning Extension: The class would color in some cut outs of the animals from the story (their choice) and put a little cowboy hat on them that they will (possibly) cut, color in, and decorate themselves. Then we'll all gather around a "campfire"(maybe) and eat cookies! Like in the story. :)

This book is a fun southwestern take on the song “Who Stole the Cookies from the Cookie Jar”. Song Books are a great way to help children hear the smaller sounds in words. The book also includes instructions for how to play the circle gmae.

Whenever I start singing the song, Will stops me and tells me the culprit (the one from this book) who took the cookies. So in some ways this book is a song killer, but it's so fantasticly clever and rhythmic. Really I should just memorize this book, so I can sing a version of the Cookie Jar song again.

This was a fun book to read to the kindergarteners. There are lots of repeated lines that they could join in on. And each page has a clue to who might be the next animal investigated. They loved looked at the clues and being right when I turned the page!

I love that this book is based on a song and can be read or sung to the students. This book can be used to teach not only about animals but also about different musical terminology. Great for students in elementary school.

Repitition - have students think of thigs they commonly say with siblings or a parent. Have them make a similar story using this same concept of this book with repition of the common saying

The storyline of cookies combined with great illustrations interests the children right away during story time. The book is based on a song which is lyrically sound. Great ending.

A favorite game from my childhood, this book will also be fun to read in the classroom. The rhythm of the poetry creates a song-like feel that students can easily follow and join. Love the critter theme!

Very cute version of this story :)

Definitely a lot of repetition in this one for the kiddos who like to chant the song over and over. Solve the mystery and guess who could have taken the cookies from the jar with clues in each illustration.
