It s 1877 and Alexia Travers is alone in the world. Her father has died unexpectedly, leaving her burdened with a heavily mortgaged horse ranch. Marrying one of the towns all-too-willing bachelors would offer an easy solution, but Alex has no interest in marriage. I just finished reading Love Finds You in Last Chance, CA and I really enjoyed this story. It has everything I like--a good love story, interesting characters (not only the hero and heroine but the secondary ones, too) and a little suspense and mystery also.

Ms. Ferrell captures the feel of the old West and threw me back in time to Last Chance in the late 1800s. I could picture the setting and the characters by her description. I was pulling for Alex (Alexia) from the beginning, and when Justin s

In this wonderful book we are taken to Last Chance, Texas, where Ben and his daughter, Alexi live. I was impressed that Last Chance, Texas, is a real town, although the story is fiction. Ben and his daughter are horse ranchers. Ben has taught Alexi everything he knows about ranching and horses. As the story goes, Ben finds goal on their property and while telling a friend he sees that someone has overheard their conversation, but he doesn't know who. Ben knew that the knowledge of the discovery ...more

This is actually one of the traveling books that I decided I would give a try.

Alexia Travers is living on a ranch with her father, in Last Chance, California. Her life was fine working on the ranch and riding horses, in fact she preferred it over the socials and nice events and people ht expected her to be a proper lady, not ride around in men's trousers doing a man's job. But, it suited her just fine, for it enabled her more time with her father. She hoped to follow in his footsteps and inher

Love Finds You in Last Chance, California by Miralee Ferrell is the fifth book in the Love Finds You series; however, each book is a stand-alone, so don't worry about missing anything if this is the first volume you pick up. Alex Travers is used to not living up to other people's expectations . As her father's sole child, she grew up working with horses and helping him run the family ranch, so it's only natural that after his sudden death she would take over as head of the ranch. Not everything ...more

Alexia Travers’ father has unexpectedly died and left her alone with a horse ranch to run. Alexia has no desire to sell or marry away her burdens. She loves working the ranch, despite what the ladies in town think of a woman wearing trousers and doing men’s work. But the trouble has only begun. Horses are being stolen, her ranch hands are quitting, and it’s starting to look like her father’s death was more than just an accident.

Then Justin Phillips shows up and asks for a job. Justin is hardwork

As a resident of California, this is the first book I've read from Summerside fiction, and I already look forward to reading more!

LAST CHANCE, CALIFORNIA is Classic Christian Fiction: broken people who get their happy ending (except the villain, naturally). That having been said, each story tends to be a little different. Ferrell's book stand's out from the others in that it has a stronger central female character than most. Alex is not only head strong and independent, butshe also thinks things

I liked this one; I actually really enjoyed the story and characters. Our heroine Alexia (Alex) was easy to relate to. I liked that while she was a “tomboy” she was still a girl. She has a really big heart, and having been judged harshly from ladies in the town for her tomboyish ways, has actually made her a better more compassionate person. I really liked that about her, especially her treatment of Christy. I liked Justin quite a bit as well. He wasn’t the over-the-top hero swooping in to save ...more

This a great book for Christian readers. I was not familiar with Miralee Ferrell before I picked this book up at the library, but she is now one of my favorite authors. The main character, Alexia, or Alex, is a strong young Christian woman with an unwavering belief in God. Although she faces many trials and hardships, Alex continues to trust and believe in God through them all. I recommend this book for Christian readers looking for clean romance, action, adventure, and non-stop reading.

Love Finds You In Last Chance California by Miralee Ferrell*****

It's 1877 and Alexia Travers, or Alex lives with her father, Ben on his cattle and horse ranch in Last Chance, California. When her father dies unexpectedly, apparently from a heart attack, Alex is left to run the ranch on her own with the help of Uncle Joe and Martha. However, her other ranch hands are not too keen on working for a woman. After talking to the banker in Last Chance, she learns that her father has mortgaged the ranch

Obviously, my rating of two stars is in the minority. It wasn't bad, yet it wasn't great, either. The only reason why it got two stars instead of three is because it wasn't quite as good as my three star ratings. I appreciated the strong female protagonist and The Historical accuracy, but was disappointed with the predictability of the plot. It fell into the same pattern as many of the other books in this genre without adding anything new and intriguing. I suppose, I am simply getting irritated ...more

I've never been to California so reading about Last Chance, California was quite a treat for me. I could imagine being there with the beautiful horse ranch spread far and wide before me. Alex embodies the true Christian spirit in her character and I know that I could learn some lessons from her character. This is a delightful pleasant read that involves some mystery as well as romance. I love books that combine the two....mystery and romance go together well in my opinion. This is actually my second time around for reading this book. The first time I read it, I found it dull and boring. Unfortunately, this time around it wasn't much better. I went into the book slightly bitter, because the book I had actually wanted to read Love Finds You in Tombstone, Arizona, is actually tied to this book through one of the supporting characters, Christy Grey. The beginning of the story dragged for me, and just went downhill from there. Christy's appearance in the story got me t ...more

For starters, let me start and say that Love Finds You is THE best collection of books that you will ever find!!! I LOVE these books and they are all unique in their own way. I have almost every one that has released thus far, and will continue to collect them until they aren't written any more (which I hope will be years down the road!). So, that being said, I will say this now: Miralee Ferrell is a WONDERFUL author! I have read her books in the past, and they all have pulled me in instantly, a ...more

1877 Last Chance, California.

Alexia Travers has many loose ends to tie up after her father's recent death. Luckily she still has the support of Uncle Joe and Martha. The ranch hands don't like the idea of working for a woman rancher even if she could hold her own while working and roping the horses.

Unbeknownst to Alex her father had notified Justin Phillips a friend of his to come to Last Chance. Because his life and ranch were in danger. Her father feared for his life and needed Justin to wor

In the aftermath of his death, the devastated young woman is dealt a number of shocking revelations: The horse ranch she and her father ran together is heavily mortgaged; gold has been found on their property, but only her father knew where; he was keeping something from her just prior to his death; and hidden among her friends, acquaintance

You’ll recall I reviewed a contemporary novel by Miralee Ferrell not too long ago. In that book, her desire to write from the heart, to encourage, to edify, all came through loud and clear. They just did again, only 130 years earlier.

What, you ask? Let me ‘splain.

Love Finds You in Last Chance California—yes, yes, I know; enough about my guy card, okay?—is a recent addition to Summerside’s “Love Finds You” collection, and the first contribution by Ms. Ferrell. Great debut in the genre!

In it, she

After the death of her father, Alexia Travers must manage the family horse ranch—not an easy task in 1877 California. Despite her best efforts, everything seems to go wrong. Some of the ranch hands refuse to work for a woman boss, a fence is cut and horses are stolen, even the gold her father received from the bank after mortgaging the ranch is missing.

Alex offers widower-newcomer Justin Phillips a job after he arrives in Last Chance with his young son. He seems like a good man, but he has secr

SUMMARY: It's 1877, and Alexia Travers is alone in the world. When a young woman inherits a heavily mortgaged horse ranch, will she be forced to marry against her will? Or can she run the ranch with the help of a handsome and mysterious wrangler?

I didn't find this to be a great book, but didn't dislike it either. It was interesting learning about Last Chance, California, and the suspense through out the novel was well done.

I really liked it. It was pretty predictable but if you like a good love story it's good. I also like the way the author used being Christlike in this book. Great message on that.
