Recommends it for: People who enjoy urban/street lit
Ghetto Resume' by newcomer Freddie Simmons is a prime example of the untapped talent among independent authors. He has crafted a believable tale that with the right components in place could go on to be a bestseller in the Street Lit genre.

The book starts off with main character DeQuan “Goldie” Walker, still in the womb but already restless and aching for the good life. By the time he is 10 years-old, Goldie is challenging his fathers authority and acquainting himself with a local drug dealer wh
Freddie Simmons did a good job with his debut novel. I've read many coming of age stories and by far this is one I would reccommend. The character Dequan Walker (Goldie) was a very impressive little boy who wanted more than anything was to have a relationship with his father . Like most men Albert lack the skills necessary to connect with his oldest son. Goldie was a mommys boy who adore his mother (Loretta) and loved his sisters and little brother. Snake the neighborhood superstar enters Goldi ...more

If you not from the Ghetto you wouldn't understand the Ghetto

In this debut novel new comer Mr. Freddie Simmons shows us how the slums of Florida get down. Letting us know if we didn’t before that there is a ghetto in every state. I for one never thought ‘ole slow a** Florida was getting it in like this. This novel could have taken place in ANY hood but it takes place in Saint Petersburg, Fl. Being the first of trilogy I zealously await to read part two. This brought back a lot of memories for me

Whether you'll grow up and become a product of your environment can be argued on almost every level. Statistically, the deck appears stacked against success and opened to failure. However, the door is never truly completely closed.

Imagine, if you will, from the moment of conception longing to be apart of the chaotic streets. Ambitious, overachiever, yet mentally capable to not only achieve but surpass any wall that may hinder you. Well for DeQuan `Goldie' Walker, he's always been k

From the first sentence, Ghetto Resume by Freddie L. Simmons held me captivated. This was a really fast-paced, highly drama-filled book about the life of DeQuan Walker AKA Goldie. He grew up in the projects on the Southside of St. Petersburg, FL. When his father was murdered, he stepped in to fill his shoes at a young age. He became very close to a notorious drug dealer named Snake. It wasn’t long before Goldie was drawn into the drug game. He learned early in life to go for what he wanted and n ...more

This is a melodramatic read .. Initially you think the author has an unique "ghetto" experience but ... The minor events keeps you turning or skimming the pages.. The cliffhanger is more like a shallow pond.. But due to the investment in book two I'm forging through..
Pretty good so far. I'm reading it on kindle which is kinda hard to do since some of the pages have words and sentences that spaced wrong, but overall the story is interesting. i'm looking forward to part 2
