Just saw this, and couldn't imagine a better introduction to opera. Rather than a single melodramatic story, this one gives you three: basically, Hoffman falls in love with a robot, kills a girl with a never-sing curse by making her sing, and has his reflection stolen. Yeah. It's awesome.
