Scholars and fans of college girl fiction from the late 19th and early 20th centuries will certainly want to seek out this book. However they may want to read two earlier books on the subject first, College Girls: A Century in Fiction by Shirley Marchalonis and Intimate Communities: Representation and Social Transformation in Women's College Fiction, 1895–1910 by Sherrie Inness. Lindgren refers to them so often that her own book sometimes seems like a dialogue with those authors.
