Jesus is peerless - but not friendless. Indeed a measure of what makes him without peer is the huge number of good and noble people who have aspired and still aspire to friendship with him. And whether friend, enemy or simply stranger to Jesus, what an infinite Friend and Advocate every human being has in the peerless only begotten Son of our Father which is in heaven! "Since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall al...more

It seems that lately there are more and more audio Bibles available. When I was growing up, perhaps the best or at least the best-known version was the one read by Alexander Scourby. His deep voice and precise pronunciation in reading the King James Version still resonates in my head.

In The Word of Promise: New Testament (NKJV) , Thomas Nelson's addition to the audio Bible offerings is unique and well done. Instead of relying on a sole narrator, the Bible is read by a cast of members, ...more

My thoughts on this one are going to be pretty straightforward and unsurprising. As a Christian, it's no secret that I hold the Bible close to my heart.

This particular rendition of the New Testament is just wonderful. Sometimes it's hard to find time to sit down and read the Bible. There are always other things to do--run the kids to sports games or dance class, laundry, house cleaning, driving to and from work, getting in some exercise. But the beauty of this audio Bible is that you...more

This was pretty interesting. Obviously it has value in and of itself, but to read it in contrast to the KJV, my usual version, was fun. Some was the same, much was different (I mean, of course, translated differently: for example, in this version, Death rides a green horse). I particularly enjoyed reading Tyndale's commentaries and interpretations and his introductions to the various books. It was particularly fun to read him justifying Hebrews, which is one of my favorite books.

For anyone who knows the King James Version of the Holy Bible - in truth, for anyone who knows the Holy Bible - William Tyndale's 1534 New Testament (now nearly 500 years old) is a fascination. On the first page of an introduction by David Daniell, there is a compelling reason for pursuing Tyndale: "…Astonishment is still voiced that the dignitaries who prepared the 1611 Authorized Version for King James spoke so often with one voice - apparently miraculously. Of course they did: the voice ...more

Bit of a mishmash really. Lots of familiar stories, an insight into the values of the times, much repetition. Some wonderful resonant language. Much of it is of no particular interest unless you're a student of religion or have some other reason to read it. As a general reader I found it more of a slog than, say, James Joyce's Ulysses (and some of it frankly more bewildering too). Not something I'd want to recommend or read again, but at least it's a 'great book' to tick off my list.

There is no need to make excuses for reading the New Testament.
It is humorous that one gives stars to a work which is, by definition, above art, but, in the face of appearing to denigrate the bible by refraining from giving stars, I'll give it all the stars Goodreads permits.
I believe this book.
It does not bother me that people do not believe it. That every individual who reads it is free to decide whether he believes it or not is part of its beauty.

Wow! There are a lot of versions to this book of scripture. I read the King James version for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. First time I've read this book from cover to cover. It was good to read the stories I've heard all my life, but it was great to read the not so well-known stories in their context and gain a deeper understanding of the gospel Christ teaches.

What better way to endure a long commute than filling your heart and mind with God's word! Production value is above par - better than most radio plays. It really puts you in the moment as if you were there. If only you could drive with your eyes closed (do not attempt this- drive was on closed test road) so as to let your mind totally visualize it more!

I finished reading Revelations on Saturday morning, the day the world was supposed to end. Somehow, the chaos of Revelations didn't look anything like the beautiful spring day outside. Of course, if I'd been in Kansas or Missouri that day, I may have felt like it really was the end.

The New Testament is rich. I'm glad scripture is so poetic.

I have now read the NT in a week and am now re-reading it. Powerful way to read the Bible. The book of Revelation totally blew me away.

I have now added this audio/CD version into my daily schedule and it has become my 'daily reading'.

I highly recommend it.

Now off to buy the OT to go with it!

Along with The Book of Mormon, I read a little from the Bible each day. Finished the New Testament in December, and I would normally start back with the Old Testament, but I am going to read the New Testament again because I am currently teaching Sunday School and we are covering the New Testament this year.

Any time you can experience the Scriptures in a fresh way is a good thing. The sound effects really draw you into the story and the book of Revelation was made for a surround sound system. There were moments where I was overcome with emotion. I'm looking forward to getting the OT release.

Found myself reading many religion based books, and realized I have never read the Bible, or the new testament not in their entirety for sure.

The New Testament is only about a 350 page book, not nearly as overwhelming as I had expected.

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and it went surprisingly fast. Listening to James Earl Jones is like listening to God reading! LOL

This seemed like the right time to re-read the New Testament in its entirety. It is a different experience from just reading isolated sections every week. Among other things, the differences among the four Gospels become clear, as does the arc of the narrative from the Gospels through the Acts and the Epistles. Some disturbing elements here and there that were not so obvious before, but a remarkable work nonetheless. Does feel weird to give it a rating, though...

I started with Matthew's prayer, and I'm using this for morning prayer. This format of the bible, soooo tiny, is really nice and not overwhelming to me. I also appreciate the slight differences in translated language. Oh, and it also brings back good memories of travels with the Emmanuel Community.

This is the version of the New Testament I'm reading for Bible Study. It's the version assigned back in one of the religious history classes I took in college. I've always loved this translation: the prose is elegant and there are a bazillion footnotes. Just the thing for a nerd like me.

This CD of James Earl Jones' deep, sweet voice reading the New Testament includes a background soundtrack of hymn melodies. I purchased it inexpensively (about $20, new, including s & h)and can make any day better by listening while I get ready in the morning or drive to work.

Reading a facsimile of a Tyndale New Testament can be difficult due to the non-standardized spelling and punctuation. This edition makes reading an historically important publication easy. The background information on development of versification and "aids" was very interesting.
