Jul 28, 2009 Richard rated it 3 of 5 stars Recommends it for: People who like mysteries; Russian police stories; tales of survival against great odds.
Recommended to Richard by: I read all Mr. Hagberg's work.
Warning: R rated; explicit violence, rape, murder, bad language in both English and Russian.

With kidnapping for ransom a growth industry in much of the world today, this could be 'ripped from the headlines'. The story is based on an actual occurrence, and the name of Yvonne Bornstein has been changed to Patti.

The twist here is the ransom funds are to go to Islamic terrorists and al-Quaeda for a nuclear device...or are they? With her husband murdered before her eyes, Patricia Monroe is held hosta...more

Not like the other Hagberg novels, starring Kirk McGarvey. This one is loosely based on the true story of Yvonne Bernstein, who was kidnapped in Russia and held for ransom in the 1990s. Indominable spirit and cooperation between FBI and Russian police save the day. Wrongly titled.

Even though this book was based upon a true story, I found myself turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. Plus there was an unexpected twist at the end

SPOILER ALERT

when the husband was revealed not to have been shot and was part of the kidnap plot.

Didn't get the title. The book was suspensful and certainly a look into the elaborate network of global terrorists. What made the book even more readable was how it was based on true facts of an individuals harrowing events and will to beat oppression.

There was a lot of swearing. I had to skip a lot of pages because of inappropriate content. It was based on a true story, which made it more suspenseful to me because it was real people and not just characters.

This was a good story, based on a true story of a lady kidnapped in Russia by Chechan/muslim terrorists. I like the other series of books he has written better. But, I recommend this book, pretty suspensful.

Really good book! And what a shocker of an ending!

Very timely, especially in light of the recent happenings in Boston.

The book was okay, just not my preference. It didn't have much depth or suspense and was heavy on violence. A quick, mindless read. I'll probably have nightmares now.....

A fast paced well written book, I will want to read more by this author.
