An indispensable guide to Luther's very complex thoughts on the relation of Christian life before God to Christian life before man. To really understand the Reformation at all properly, you have to grasp this material, and unfortunately, it rarely is grasped. Cranz's effort to fully unpack the subject, although more than fifty years old, remains perhaps one of the most important contributions to Luther studies. Unfortunately, I can't say that it's likely to help the uninitiated gain much access...more
