I give 3 stars to this story. The story plot was well thought-out and engaging, carrying me from one of Bryan’s adventures to the next. It’s amazing that a sixteen year old boy could go through so much, and come out better and more mature from the experience – but that’s how it was back then: kids grew up fast.

Beyond the Smoke was a quick read, but I enjoyed each minute in the 145 page book! From discovering the murder and massacre of his family, the story continues on to show Bryan’s difficult

Bryan Wheeler is out hunting dinner. He shoots a nice rabbit and takes it back to the wagon train only to find everything destroyed and everyone killed—including his family. Comanche raiders had attacked while he was out hunting and they could come back anytime. Bryan quickly gathers a few supplies and sets out to find a safe place. I've never read any books by Terry Burns before, but am really glad that I did. He is now a new favorite in the Western genre. His book Beyond the Smoke was full of adventure and peril. I love Westerns that involve God and the characters that follow God.
I'm quite impressed with Beyond the Smoke and Terry Burns. Now I need to find more books by this fantastic author.
