Maybe I've read too many in this series but I didn't like this one as much. I got the feeling it flew off the keyboard and into the printing plant without an editor. What do editors do these days if they aren't actually editing books? This one has a lack of continuity-for instance, when Sarah Booth decides to go for a ride in the middle of the night, she "whistles up her hound" to go along, but the dog is never mentioned as accompanying her. Logic also is missing here-in her zeal to

Carolyn Haines has been called the “Queen of Cozies” and the ninth release in her Sarah Booth Delaney series (Greedy Bones, Minotaur, July, 2009) is as fresh and vibrant as the first.
The “ghost” in the series isn’t a detective, but she’s an intriguing character named Jitty, who pops up to offer words of advice and solace to the main character, Sarah Booth. (But only if she feels like it, of course.)
Jitty, the resident haint of Dahlia House, gives new meaning to the wo More...

This book really showcased the friendship between Sarah Booth and Tinkie. It also showed how in the small amount of time that she has been back Sarah Booth has really found her place in the town and among the townspeople. I wish things had worked out with her and Coleman because I would like to see her stick around, and I don't think that will happen with Graf. For some reason I just don't like him. The twists and turns about the cotton and the weevils just kept coming. Some of them I had f

I read this for the OSC bookclub a few weeks ago. I enjoyed the Southern setting, but didn’t find the characters very engaging or the plot line believable. I guess it would be ok for a light mystery beach read, but would recommend The Rock Orchard: A Novel or The Wilde Women: A Novel for better reads.

Some of Sarah Booth's friends are dying of a mysterious disease. She works with the sheriff, her former love, and investigators from the Centers for Disease Control, one of whom has her eye on the sheriff. The disease seems to be related to a tragic old plantation, or to the genetically-altered cotton growing there, or to the boll weevils that seem to be also genetically designed to feed on the cotton. Sarah Booth investigates the family that owns the plantation, as well as the shady developer

I was desperate for a book last time I went to the library and saw this at the "recommend station." I grabbed it and hoped it would at least entertain me a little. It is a mystery, not my typical read, but the writing is so good and the characters so intriguing that I was hooked. It is a series and I plan on getting the others to read as well. Not to scary that I couldn't read at night, but enough of a mystery that I could not put it down.

I've read all the Sarah Booth mysteries and this one was a quick and enjoyable read like the rest of them. I do find the Jitty character a bit annoying and would enjoy the books better without her, but Sarah Booth makes up for that. This installment was a good read, but I found the ending a bit convoluted. I like the relationship of Sarah Booth and Graf, but somehow I think I see her better with Coleman or Harold.

I stumbled on this book which was a fun read during a busy time, and even better, discovered it is a part of a series. I confess I was intrigued by the D. G. references ("Daddy's Girl" approach/philosophy to raising young women in the South) and the ever presence of a "haint" or ghost from the Civil war era throughout the book.

CDC can't figure out what th cause or the cure for the illness is. Rhe ill folks all have one thing in common - they all visited a deserted property just before they got sick. Can Sarah Booth Delaney (the name of this series) find out what is making her friends sick before it is too late?

Met this wonderful author at Malice Domestic this year; am enjoying this volume of her multi-book series featuring Sara Booth Delaney. Strong characters, well-crafted setting in the Mississippi Delta, and a satisfying mystery when I thought I'd guessed who-dunnit. I was wrong!

Is she an actress or a PI? this is the first book I've read in the Sarah Delaney Booth series. An illness is attacking Sarah Booths friends and neighbors and it takes the CDC to get involved. Southern charm, laughter some steamy scenes and a little heart ache.

Sarah Booth Delaney returns home to Mississippi to support her best friend and partner, Tinkie. Tinkie's husband and 3 other people are suffering from an unknown disease that is slowly killing them. The only link is that they all visited a local plantation. Sarah Booth is convinced that the mysterious cotton crop and boll weevils that have appeared on the plantation are not an accidient of nature. She smells foul play and determined to get to the root of the mystery.

I just finished my first Carolyn Haines book, Greedy Bones, but it won't be my last. Adorable cozy with plenty of twists and mayhem. Unique starlet as the protagonist is likeable and unexpected. I ordered more of the Bones series. Kudos to Haines!

I was glad to see Sarah Boothe back in the Delta and I thought this was a good story and seemed to freshen up the series. It definitely held my interest and I'm hoping in the future to see her back with Coleman or Harold...

I have some deeper books sitting around waiting to be read, but realized I needed total escapist fluff. This book was perfect for that. It held my interest and had enjoyable characters, just what I need for now.

Carolyn Haines' series of the Sarah Booth Delaney PI team is great. It's in the south, Mississippi, gives great mystery read. I have now read 6 in this series and each one gets better than the last.

I love this series. This one had an excellent plot, as well as several sub-plots that were just great. Lots of twists and turns. Can't wait to read the next one in time to catch up with the newest one coming out soon.

Genetically modifying bol weevils and causing a CDC epidemic? Stretches credibility a bit. Then Sarah Booth is married to Hollywood hunk Graf Milieu. Add this one to the ridiculous pile.

Good book. Reminds me of the Stephanie Plum novels but I feel the characters evolve throughout the story. Good book to pick up on the beach.

I loved this book but it was the one in the series that had me in tears. I was completely engrossed in the story till the very end.

Entertaining addition to the Sarah Booth Delaney mysteries set in the Mississippi Delta, complete with a resident Haint!

Sarah Booth Delaney, at last, home where she belongs. I enjoyed this quick new installment in this sassy Mississippi Delta series very much, although I wish I didn't find myself chastising my favorite heroines for being foolishly blind so often. She missed a couple of broad hints in this one. Aside from that, this was an unexpectedly moving chapter in her generally humorous life. Giant steps forward emotionally. I especially enjoyed watching her strong female friendships grow even deeper.

I've loved every book in this series, but this one is definitely a return to action-packed mystery. I couldn't put it down!

Better than the other book I read in the series...slightly more believable. I won't be reading any more, though.
