The Secret of the Dread Forest (Faire Folk #3)
Now that she has (sort of) defeated a diabolical elf, Keelie Heartwood reluctantly joins her father in the Dread Forest. Her "real" friends are gone, her dad is preoccupied with his new responsibilities as Lord of the Forest and now it seems that her budding romance with the hunky Sean is dashed. Except for her impossible guardian cat Knot, and Alora, a demanding and bratt...more

This damn series sucked me in and wouldn't let me go, even after I finished it. And I don't really like it that much!
I know there's more of it and I want to read those books too, even though I'm not in any way awed by this story. So why do I keep coming back for more? The romance that is yet to conclude? Keelie finding a place in that fantastic world at last? Her powers that have yet to show themselves in full? I think it's all the things that I'm dying to know and get answers for chapter by cha...more

I must say Gillian Summers never disapoints... I become a big fan and still running strong.. I really liked where she took the story in The Dread Forest. We find out that Keelie is more than just half elf and there is alot more to her and her family.. She finds herself trying to fit in a world of pointy ears. And you find yourself liking the people you didnt like in the previous books. I found myself laughing often while reading this book. Knot is just amazing and he surprises us all. Although t...more
I love this trilogy! I really enjoy reading about keelie and watching her grow and mature. While living in the Dread forest with her dad Keelie will have to deal with her grandmother, Lady Keliatiel and Princess Alora, both demanding. To top it of she meets a vampire and the snotty elf-girl Elia wamts to be Keelie's frenemy. Dark magic encrouchs on the Dread Forest-will Keelie be able to save it?

Whenever I get an already-published book in a series at ALA, I wonder why. An ARC to me says, "this book isn't catching on and we want to get the word out" but an already-published book being given away in stacks says "help!".
Not having read the first two books, I found the "previously" part of this one a little annoying. It clearly means to drive you to the others, without really helping clarify what happened if you don't have them lying around. Only by reading the entire book do you understan...more

This book was such a let-down. Not because the plot ideas were bad, but because they were not incarnated well.
Summers has trouble establishing and maintaining continuity with regard to where people are standing and what actions they perform, which is a big bummer when the book includes a dramatic climax involving lots of running around and outmaneuvering the bad guys.
Also, while her heroine and other characters begin to flesh out in this book, they never get completely three-dimensional, as Su...more

From the back of the book: "Now that she has (sort of) defeated a diabolical elf, Keelie Heartwood reluctantly joins her father in the Dread Forest. Her "real" friends are gone, her dad is preoccupied with his new responsibilities as Lord of the Forest and now it seems that her budding romance with the hunky Sean is dashed. Why I read this: I loved the first two books in this trilogy, so I had to read this one.
Plot: The last book of the trilogy, The Secret of Dread Forest does not disappoint. Keelie now has to face her formidable grandmother, who loathes her deceased mother as well as seems to dislike her because she is only half elf. Not only does she have to face her grandmother, but a vampire. Vampires are different in this world - they are fey that no longer are true to their nature. Also, the Dread that keeps...more

The third book in the Faire Folk series. Keelie goes to the Dread Forest, home to the elves, for the first time. She meets a mysterious boy in the woods and develops an uneasy friendship with her former enemy Elia. A new character is a bratty talking tree seedling named Alora. A good conclusion to this series. The story continues in a new series: The Scions of Shadow.
This one was pretty interesting, it had an odd sort of vampire in it, which I think could have been explored a little more. The detail of the series is great, but there's a little too much running off and doing something and then getting in trouble and needing to be saved. I love the characters, but it felt a little like it'd happened before in another form.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It was a nice ending to the series. The only issues I had were the addition of random magical creatures which didn't seem to really fit into the story. I mean vampires? These were not needed here. I like that Keelie continues to come into her own powers and maturity.
Riveting books, had me on the edge of my seat through the whole series. I devoured the books instantly. Reminded me of O.R. Melling. I really hope this author comes out with more books in this series. Keelie is no ordinary girl, once living in suburbia she no longer has that luxury now she lives with her elf father who has also taken over as guardian of the dread forest, but dark magic is a foot and even though no one believes in Keelie she is the key to saving the forest.

The plot thickens as new characters are introduced. And while this is the end of the trilogy, the series continues! Read on, fans of Keelie, with the Scions of Shadow series. Books one and two are out.
Having reread this upon the release of the last book in the second trilogy, I see once more why I love it. More mystery, more questions, and things left unanswered. Normally I loathe cliffhangers, but I love this series so much I can't wait for more! Onto Shadows Of The Redwood! Happy reading, ever...more

This book was more than I ever thought it would be for such a small amount of pages. I absolutely loved the revelation of Keelie`s heritage and the introduction of the new characters really brought this book to life. It was absolutely an incredible read and I will be waiting impatiently for the 1st book in the Scions of Shadow Trilogy that continue Keelie`s great adventure. Absolutely an INCREDIBLE read!!

A forest dweller, Gillian was raised by gypsies at a Renaissance Faire. She likes knitting, hot soup, costumes and adores oatmeal, especially in the form of cookies. She loathes concrete, but tolerates it if it means attending a science fiction convention. She's an obsessive collector of beads, recipes, knitting needles and tarot cards, and admits to reading InStyle Magazine. You can find her in h...more
