The action in THE DIVA TAKES THE CAKE was relentless – taking place over a few days. Sophie’s sister Hannah is getting married for the umpteenth time – but no-one except for Hannah likes the creepy Craig. The story opens a couple of days before the wedding and the guests have started to arrive. Celebrations are dampened when Craig’s ex-wife is found dead and it turns out to be murder not suicide as first appears. Her’s is not the last body that is wedding associated.

THE DIVA TAKES THE CAKE has f

Another very enjoyable read, though not as good as the first.

I felt like we saw some major changes with characters, especially Hannah, Mars, and Natasha throughout this book. I also really feel bad for Natasha, I feel like she's not meaning to be mean or rude but she's just ignorant. However, the angst between Sophie and Wolf was kind of pointless to me, I thought that entire minor plotline of the book could have been eliminated quite easily.

The mystery was very well written and the killer was s

In this book Sophie’s sister, Hannah, is marrying creepy Craig and she is organising the wedding. Of course, this also means that the oh so delightful Natasha is doing all she can to muscle in on the action at every opportunity.

What I like about this book is that on every chapter there is a Q and A or an article snippet from either Sophie’s or Natasha’s column. It is a really clever way of highlighting the difference between the characters and also set up the theme of the chapter.

Wedding Planner and Domestic Diva, Sophie Winston, has her hands full. Her sister, Hannah is about to be married and Sophie is in charge of putting together a wedding beyond her wildest imagination. However, Sophie hits a snag. For one thing, she hates the groom, Craig, but her sister isn’t listening to her. When the groom’s ex-wife is murdered, Sophie is convinced the groom is the prime suspect. Not that her sister will listen, even the cops won’t listen.

Sophie is determined to prove to Hannah

I really like this series. Sometimes there are a lot of characters floating around and I forget who some are, but the atmosphere is great, and it's cute and clever without being cloying.

An OK mystery but I needed a score card to keep track of all the minor characters! I would just start to figure out where one of them fit into the story when another 3 or 4 characters entered the scene. I lost track of how many different people were somehow part of the story. A few were probably introduced in book one but were certainly not that memorable, while others appeared to be new to this story. Accounting for so many different characters also created a very choppy conclusion. Plus, excep ...more

THE DIVA TAKES THE CAKE by Krista Davis is the story about Event Planner Sophie Winston, who is in charge of organizing Hannah’s wedding…not her sister’s first wedding by far. The bad news is Sophie doesn’t like the groom-to-be at all and thinks her sister is making a huge mistake. The really bad news is the groom’s ex-wife is found murdered just down the street from Sophie’s home. Sophie is terrified that Hannah may be in danger from her future husband since he appears to be harboring secrets l ...more

I enjoyed this book quite a bit more than the first book of this series. In this book, Sophie's sister, Hannah, is about to get married to her fiance, Craig. Sophie is working like crazy to give Hannah a beautiful wedding, even though she doesn't like Craig and would prefer that Hannah call off the wedding. And then, Craig's ex-wife shows up unexpectedly (Hannah didn't even know he had been married before!), and is subsequently murdered in Natasha's--Sophie's nemesis--back yard. Sophie, of cours ...more

The second book of the Diva series, is about Sophie's sister, Hannah and the plans of marriage to her mysterious beau,Craig. Sophie was suspicious about Craig in the first book, and felt that something was not right with Craig. She was right, since Craig lied to Hannah, he was married before, and his ex-wife come to Sophie's house pretending to be Craig's friend. She is then found by Sophie dead, and Craig is the first suspect. Soon, other secrets are coming to light, and as many motives and sus ...more

I really like this series. Set in Old Town Alexandria, where I lived for 2 years, the landmarks are familiar and I can visualize much of what is happening :-) Well written, good mystery with some twists and a little romance too!

Sophie Winston is planning her sister's wedding to a guy Sophie truly mislikes. Helping out, and sabotaging her work, is Hannah's friend, Natasha, a Marsha Stewart type, who just happens to be living with Sophie's friendly ex, Mars. When a woman is found hanging from the wedding pergola, Sophie's wedding date turns out to be the investigating police detective.
The number of suspects begin mount as the wedding planning problems do.
While this is a cozy mystery, and the main characters are mostly d

I read this out of order in the series, but it was still enjoyable. Sophie Winston's sister, Hannah, is getting married again, and Sophie has done all of the planning. She is not overly fond of Hannah's fiance, Craig, but mainly because she thinks he is dull more than anything else.

The wedding weekend gets off to a bad start when Craig's ex-wife - who Hannah didn't know about - turns up dead in the garden of Sophie's ex-husband's house. The wedding is on again/off again, and more and more suspic

This second book of this series was just as good as the first! I like mysteries and those that aren't gruesome or highly intense. And this fit that description. This book starts and takes you in and you are hooked. This is a higher paced book than book 1 so you kind of have to have time to read it or your mind will be wondering what is next in between times you pick the book up! Through the entire thing you wonder yourself about 'who did it' or 'who will be next' but then change your mind a few ...more

Sophie's sister, Hannah, is getting married...for the third time. Sophie doesn't like her sister's choice in men, but this is family and she dives in as only an event planner can do to make this day memorable for Hannah. Now if she can only keep her arch nemesis, Natasha, out of the plans everything will go well.

Then, just days before the wedding, Hannah learns that her intended, Craig, was married once before. In addition to that, family members that he has never mentioned begin arriving (even

It's summertime in Alexandria, and wedding bells are soon to be ringing for Sophie Winston's sister, Hannah. But Sophie can't seem to shake the bad feelings she has about her sister's potential third husband... Craig just seems so expressionless and stiff like he has to hide everything about himself. When his ex-wife turns up in Old Town Alexandria, insanity breaks out! It gets even worse when she's found dead!

Can Sophie prove to Hannah that Craig isn't husband material, and a probable murderer?

Sophie's sister Hannah is getting married. Sophie isn't wild about the guy but knows she can't change Hannah's mind so she is performing all the "party planning" from pre-wedding parties to dinners, breakfasts and lunches. Of course she has to put up with lots of comments, criticism and interference from Natasha, her rival in party planning.

When a dead woman is found hanging in Natasha's back yard (which is just a few houses from Sophie's) and is found to be the groom's first wife the wedding an

I usually enjoy the diva series to the tune of five stars but this one I felt was a little weak. You know that feeling you have when you read a good mystery where you for sure think you know who did it then the author rolls out a bunch of new suspects leaving you second guessing? Yeah me too...however you don't get that here. The first suggested plausible suspect is in fact the killer...there are others but the motives are so weak they are laughable. Still Old Town is a charming setting and the ...more

In the second of the Domestic Diva mysteries, our heroine Sophie Winston is struggling to make sure her sister Hannah's wedding goes off smoothly. Planning this wedding has been difficult for her, as she dislikes Hannah's intended, Craig, and secretly hopes that Hannah will change her mind. When Craig's ex-wife is found hanging in a neighbour's backyard, Sophie is certain that the wedding will be cancelled. However, it is not, and although Craig hasn't invited any of his family members to the we ...more

Everybody behaves queerly in this book. The Shakespearean excuses for these behaviors border on the farcical. Most of these occur in the background but some, like the mortician's kiss, are annoying.

It's only now I gather how theatrical the entire book was. I put my money on one suspect to be the criminal, simply by eliminating those who've been dismissed. I was right, but this is just a mean feat. The first murder, which came in very early - 8% in my e-book - faded throughout the tragicomic w

LOVED!!! This is the fourth Krista Davis cozy I've read and they are all just wonderful!! (I've read books one and two of the Paws and Claws mysteries as well as book one and now book two of the Domestic Diva series) Many of the characters from the first Domestic Diva story were present along with fun new visitors!! I love wedding themed mysteries and this one is hilarious, chaotic, deadly, and adorable all in one. I had a few moments where had I been Sophie, Wolf would have had to arrest me for ...more

Another fun read in the Domestic Diva sites. I was getting confused with all the character's names. That's my own fault for reading a bit here and there instead of long reading times.
This one involves a wedding that's full of surprises.
And I'll add that if she thinks you're her best friend and still acts like this, you're really in for it.
