Okay, this author has about 6 books in this mystery/suspense series. I read the fourth in the series, cause I'm silly. And I enjoyed it a great deal. The book stood easily on it's own, so even though I hadn't read the first three, I didn't feel as if I was missing alot. They referenced previous books, and side stories from those, but nothing major. And again, the hottie is a Russian ex-spy/awesomeness. I appreciated the the humor, the sex scenes, and story. The book wasn't very long, but I am ha

I have the review of Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss here, as well as the winner of a copy of this fabulous book!
Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss is the fourth novel in a series about a novelist turned amateur detective. Sophie Katz has no idea how she keeps finding herself in these situations, her mother has taken to calling her "the mortician", due to the fact that she is forever finding dead bodies. Can you imagine what this would do to a nice Jewish mother? oy! More...

Lust, Loathing, and a Little Lip Gloss is another great book in the Sophie Katz series. I loved this one just as much as the others, Sophie is back with her stellar sleuth skills and quick wit that makes you laugh out loud while reading. Many times while reading this book I got the “is that lady crazy look” for busting out laughing in public. Anatoly is sexy and sweet as ever and I was so happy with the way these two are progressing in their relationship. The paranormal side of the story kee

This will be a great beach/pool read for mystery lovers. This is the 4th in a series of mysteries by Kyra Davis but you can begin with this one and pick up the others later. Divorcee Sophie Katz lives in San Francisco and loves her designer coffee. She also loves Victorian houses and is going to be able to purchase one--not because she can afford it but because her ex-a sleazy realator thinks he can get it for her "at a steal." However, the house comes with conditions attached and Soph

Forget Manolos and Cosmopolitans, trade New York for San Francisco, Mr. Big is no Anatole, and your new BFF is Sophie not Carrie.
This series is a delightful romantic romp with a little mystery and a lot of humor mixed together to create one absolutely FABULOUS read. Kyra Davis's leading lady is one feisty chick who seems to attract murderers and crazy people [and that's just her friends and family:]. I love this series, Sohpie is an interesting woman with fun friends. I love that she goes off and does all these goofy things, that seem perfectly normal to her at the time, but then afterwards when she has time to think she realizes that it wasn't the best thing. This book is no different. Breaking into Kane's house was very funny, and watching her deal with Dena and her men issues. But I think the best thing about this book was bittersweet, her realization that the person she thought was p

This was cute and entertaining, part of a cute and entertaining series.
The problem is, that I get this series very confused with Laura Levine's Jaine Austen series. They both are "chick lit" style mysteries about women who are writers, live alone, have an eccentric family, a (stereotypical?) gay best friend, a wacky female best friend, and who inadvertently come across dead bodies in their day to day life. The only difference is whether or not they are successful writers.

Ugh. My sister lent me the first four Sophie Katz mysteries, so I felt like I HAD to read them. They were all terrible, partly because the plots are unbelievably convoluted and yet completely mundane at the same time. But the main reason the books are bad is because the heroine is quite possibly the most annoying character ever created. She's obnoxious and mean and just says whatever comes into her head without any regard for anyone else. She's flip and sarcastic to people who have just lost lov

This was the darkest oh the Sophie Katz books so far, which is saying something since the other three included serial killers, uber-cheaters, and psychopaths. Ghost stories are just always going to have that added scary factor, even when you know that it's another character messing around. We also get to meet Sophie's sleazy ex-husband (who I'm glad wasn't sleazy the whole way through or we wouldn't have been able to understand why Sophie ever fell for him) and find out more about her dad. Overa

Verry witty! Lots of laugh out loud moments that make people look at you like your'e crazy! Set in San Francisco, Sophie is a thirty something divorced novelist trying to buy her dream home in Ashbury Heights. I loved the little title headers. They were quotes from another Sophie Katz book, 'The Lighter Side of Death". One of my favorites is "Throughout our lives we are tested so it really helps if you know how to cheat."I will be looking for more Kyra Davis Sophie Katz novels.

This newest Sophie Katz mystery was great. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and how Sophie's character has changed. Her character has evolved from a needy woman, to a leading protagonist that takes control. In this edition, Sophie isn't obsessed with her on again off again relationship with Anatoly, but concentrates more on her life, in addition to solving a murder. I really recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good murder mystery and laughing at the same time.

I can always count on Kyra Davis to make San Francisco, sleuthing, and girly diversions magically transform into some yummy fiction.
1. I love Marcus, the dark-skinned, gay hairdresser friend. I would do anything to have one of those in my life.
2. Kyra, honey, you need to stop using the word "hedge" the way you do. I cringe every time your main character says that she "hedged" instead of saying that she "said" something.

I love this series as you will see from my other reviews for this author and books within the series.
This one makes up for the one before it where it was just weird. this one stays true to the series and you can't help but love Sophie. She's that girl you wish you were at times and could see being a good friend.
And the Ghost stuff, it brought a new edge to the series without being bizarre like the last book.

Another Sophie Katz mystery filled with humor, love, sex, betrayal, murder and - this time - ghosts from the past. Poor Sophie can't seem to go anywhere without stumbling upon a dead body (or two). I never know how Sophie's going to get herself out of the mess she always seems to land herself in. In the 4th book in the series, with help from PI boyfriend, Anatoly, ex-husband, Scott and his girlfriend, Venus and an odd-house-seller, Kane, Sophie finds her dream home. At a price that might not be

this was a firstreads win that I just got yesterday- read it last night and enjoyed it very much- a very quick and fun read. Sophie Katz is the main character and she is very likeable. Well written and keeps the readers attention. I would recommend this for anyone that likes Marian Keyes,Sophie Kinsella etc. Also I am passing this along to friends at the office and I will add how they liked it at a later date

I picked this up based on its title in my 30 second dash to the library. Thankfully this book was totally enjoyable beach reading because the other book I grabbed was a dud. I enjoyed the story, the characters and the ending. Twists, turns, easy to read and satisfying. I'm not usually one for murder mysteries but I'll definately go back to this author.

I was worried with the whole ghost thing, but it turned out just fine. Anatoly sure puts up with a whole lot from her. And some of their dialogue was a bit on the romance-novel side. I don't appreciate that in a smart, mystery novel like this. They can have sex and all, but why must it be so unrealistic sometimes? Anyway, I have one more to go, and I definitely am curious to see what happens in their lives next.

Lust Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss, the fourth book in the Sophie Katz further follows the headstrong frappocino loving writer as she attempts to buy a home. And of course, in true Sophie fashion the entire process is far from simple and includes as a few dead people. Proving once and for all how fabulous Sophie is because despite the body count that follow close encounters with her, she always gets invited to rub shoulders with the fabulous.. I did see some suprises coming in this book but o

On the order of Evanovich, a lot of fun and light reading. It was on the $4.95 list at Audible and discovered it wasn't the first in the series after I started reading. Fortunatley, that didn't matter. I will go back and read the rest of the series.

I liked it. She is an early thirties woman who is a writer and has a boyfriend who is a private investigator. She found a gorgeous underpriced house in San Francisco and she wants to buy it, but to be able to do so she will have to pretend to believe in ghosts.

Probably my least favorite Sophie Katz mystery. It get very far fetched. Still quite funny though. There wasn't a lead in to another novel at the end which I found interesting. I wonder if Kyra is planning to write more in the series or not.

This is my first Sophie Katz book, but now I'm hooked on Sophie and Anatoli. I've already ordered the first one in the series from my library and will read them in order now to catch up on the series. Sophie is one tough broad.

The story is very good BUT the reader is not which is why I cannot give this a higher rating....soooooo, get the book in any format you can find but skip the audio! A different narrator could make this fun mystery such a verbal joy!

I started off liking this book and it's characters but half way through the book they were really getting on my nerves. By the end of the book I was sorry more of them hadn't been murdered. The plot was goofy and mystery almost none existent.

My friend Ellen 'just discovered mystery writer Kyra Davis. Her portrayal of the Jewish mother is over the top, but "Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss" was a fun page-turner. And the way the mystery was tied up was pretty surprising.'

I bought this to listen to on my ipod. I think I'll find the book and read it because listening to it..not so good. I think not liking the narrators voice just ruined it for me. I am going to read and give it another shot.

I enjoyed this one. It was much better than the first one, but didn't move quite as quickly as the second and third. However, the main character had a little more common sense and the story line wasn't as chaotic. Still a fun read.

Another winner by Kyra Davis! I think I liked this story the best out of all of her stories so far. The twists and turns were great--it kept you guessing until the very end. Again, this isn't brain candy, but it's a great beach read!

Thanks Julie B for recommending this book! It was a great read and hilarious. I almost liked it better than the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series. I can't wait to read her first 3 books on this same series.
