The Siege of Macindaw (Ranger's Apprentice #6)
After years as a Ranger's apprentice, Will is now the protector of his first fief. The situation grows direr when Will uncovers Kere...more

I've found these books to be sort of, "uneven". I liked the early books, but the sequence concerning Will's captivity lost me some what as I found my interest waning. A lot of this will of course be somewhat personal and subjective and apply to me, some will I suppose find it to be true for them others less so. I found my interest in this YA series picking back up somewhat in the last couple of books (aside from my annoyance at the blatant cliffhanger with which the book before this en...more
The Siege of Macindaw is the sixth book in the Ranger’s Apprentice series. It releases in the US on August 11. I went into happy fangirl mode on Friday when I got home and discovered a galley on my doorstep. I won it off of Goodreads. Awesome. :)
I think I was even more excited for this one because book 5, The Sorcerer in the North, ended in a cliffhanger. ARGH. I hate that. Book’s 5 and 6 combine to create Will’s first adventure as a full-fledged ranger. In book 5, Will is asked to ...more

My favourite in the series. Probably the funniest.
So when i recieved this book i was a little worried about reading it. It is completely not the type of book that i would ever pick up at a book store. One because it is a young adult book and two because its not historical reading, its more fake historical (set in the past, in a made up place with swords and castles.) And since this was book six in the series, I was worried that i wouldn't understand what was going on. Needless to say i wasn't looking forward to reading it. But i did anyway...more

THE SIEGE OF MACINDAW, the sixth installment in John Flanagan's best-selling RANGER'S APPRENTICE series, picks up right where THE SORCERER OF THE NORTH left off, with Alyss imprisoned in Macindaw castle at the mercy of Keren the usurper.
Will is soon united with enemy-turned-best-friend Horace, deep in Malcolm the Healer's mysterious forest. Much as it pains the two to be so close to Macindaw and yet so helpless, the two know t...more

Rangers Apprentice book 6 by John Flanagan is a fiction book about living in a time of war in the early renaissance time period. I think this book is the best book I have ever read because the author does a very good job in describing the setting and the character thoughts and feelings and what their life is like, it makes me feel as if the characters are feel people with real thoughts and feelings. Flanagan wrote these books to encourage his son to read and his son likes them so much that he d...more
This is the sixth book in the Ranger's Apprentice series. It was an excellent addition to the series and does a good job wrapping up the story that was left hanging in book 5.
Will is trying to conceive a plan to rescue Alyss from Keren, the knight who revolted and took over Macindaw. Horace shows up and between him, Will, a small group of Skandians, and the people who live outside Macindaw in the forest they will have to come up with a plan to rescue Alyss. I will make this 'review' for this and the previous book, as they cannot be separated in any way. Story wise, ofcourse. Page wise, they obviously have been.
There are a few major complaints I have about this 5 year time skip. I generally love time skips. It moves a story forward, characters can develop in more drastic ways, a lot of things can change, and the need to adapt to the new setting is generally very enjoyable. But, this one annoyed me.

Overall I thought the book was really good. It was slow at times but it kept me interested. My favorite part was the actuall siege of the castle. It was the most interesting part of the book because it was fast paced and well writen.
The characters are, Will, the main character, is a young ranger who is helping the lord of the castle (who has been poisened by his cousin) take back the castle. Horace is a young knight who is also helping take back the castle. Horace and Will have been...more

I'm getting a little weary of this series. It seems that the older Will, the main character, gets, the stupider he gets. Flanagan seems to be trying to make Will and his friend Horace seem human but having them bicker and argue a lot, but it falls flat, especially because of Flanagan's typical writing style of over explaining everything. He even relied upon Will's age a couple of times as an explanation. It's getting old.

Will is in a little bit more that a difficult situation. Having fled the castle, with Orman and his faithful servant Xander, Will was able to get the young heir to the rumored evil magician of the woods. Of course, he wasn’t really evil, just a healer that had become recluse and taken up the name of an old folklore black-magic man to keep unwelcome guest away from him. He was really called Malcolm and he was a slight fellow, old, and really kind. In the middle of the woods he wasn’t bothered by ...more
The Rangers Apprentice series is the first series that I have read by John Flangan. I have loved this series so far and would give this book in particular five out of five stars. I thought the plot was a little bit exaggerated but it just made the story that much more interesting and exciting.
I don’t think that Flangan developed as much voice in the main character as maybe Percy Jackson from the Lightning Thief. But you could tell Will was a determined young man and when he wanted to do ...more

This is the follow up book that continues the story of The Sorcerer of the North. I've liked the previous books in the series a little better than these two. Will, the main character is growing up, maturing. He's figuring out how to handle life and difficult situations without his mentor Halt to lead the way. In men's development literature, one of the themes is how we men may have a mentor that teaches us about life. But at some point we have to go our own way. We have to make our way in ...more
This is the sixth book in the series of the Ranger's Apprentice. It is the continuation of the story of the impenetrable fortress which just happens to be the strategic point between two countries and the protected pass that keeps them from each other. As the story continues we learn more about our characters while other old friends arrive to help. It is as if the first part of this story, set in the first book, is the microcosm of the plot and this second book is the macrocosm. Here we learn ab...more

"The Siege of Macindaw" by John Flanagan is the sixth book in the "Ranger's Apprentice" series. Leaving off at Alyss's capture and held hostage for Keren, Will and his long time warrior friend, Horace, were devising a plan to siege the castle. Turned out to be, Keren, was making a deal with the northern tribes, the Scotti, to take over castle Macindaw. The problem with this, though, is that Macindaw is like the door between Araluen, Will's land, securing the northern border. ...more
John Flanagan’s Ranger’s Apprentice was written for the enjoyment of the reader. He wrote it so that people would have a fictional book to read for pleasure. Even though I do not enjoy reading, this book gave me pleasure, which most books do not do.
The theme of this book is that size matters not. Even if you are outnumbered or shorter than others, it does not mean that you will always lose. It proves that brute strength does not always beat wisdom or strategy. In this book, the charact...more

This is the book that started my Ranger's Apprentice journey. I won this book , The Siege of Macindaw from GoodReads book giveaways. I figured, since this is the 6th book in the series that I should read at least the first book to have an idea of the background. I wound up reading books one, two, three, four and five. I am very glad that I won the ARC of The Siege of Macindaw as I have so enjoyed my journey in the land of the Ranger's Apprentice.

They just keep getting better and better!!!!
This is just another example of the fact that a good fantasy book can be like many others, and also be unique. Flanagan obviously has experience in fantasy writing, and it shows here. Even through the sixth book in the series, I still really like Will. I care about Evanlyn, and I think Horace is a really cool guy. Flanagan brings a certain life and depth of emotion to all of his characters that I really love. I have detailed pictures of every character in my mind, and there are no emotions left ...more
This is book six in the Rangers Apprentice Series about a young man named Will Treaty. As a young orphan child he is taken in by the local gentry and educated. When the time comes to decide what his career in life will be he is assigned to be a Rangers Apprentice. The Rangers are an elite corps of men who spy for the king and defend the kingdom. They are renowned for their abilities to assess situations, infiltrate and survive off the land. Each book in the series is a different adventure f...more
Siege of Macindaw picks up where Sorcerer of the North leaves off. I think that this saga, compared to the others, is mediocre. There was action, but nothing like Battle for Skandia, and there was romance, but it wasn't as tense as Icebound Land. Overall, I didn't feel like there was anything particularly great setting this mini-saga above the others. I found myself compelled to read, but not nearly as interested as I have been in the past. Additionally I thought some of the plot turns were too ...more
This is one of my favorite series. It is a adventure type book with a splash of fantasy. The 5th and 6th book jumped from Will being a apprentice to a full fledged ranger. A ranger is a specially trained person that can walk without sound and blend in with his suroundings. There are 50 rangers for all of the fifty fiefs for the kingdom. The old saying is; one problem, one ranger.
In this book, it is the 2nd part of the 5th book. In the 5th book, the rangers hear about a "sorceror...more

This was better than #5, the more I read this series the more I see it as en entry-series for many young children into more complex and better fantasy series. After reading this I'd encourage others to try The Thief and the move on to The Lord of the Rings and the like.
Anyways, I've found these sanitized a bit - most of the deaths being from the main characters injuring the bad guys and then the bad guys "stumble" off the side of the building. So they're fighting...more

Wow this series has gripped me like very few others, and I would place it alongside of Dragonlance, The Dark Elf, Harry Potter, Hunger Games & Gregor the Overlander as my favorite series of Epic fantasy or YA reading.
This is the 6th installment (of 11) of this series, and outside of slight letdowns in the 3rd and 5th books and horrible cliffhanger endings in book 3 & 5 this series ROCKS! I will say I found some of the scenerios a little farfetched, or over done. For example the siege...more

I agree with one of the other reviewers--this series just keeps getting better. I cannot decide if it is because the writer is getting better, more into the series, or if it is because Will himself is getting better--older, more mature, keeping all his qualities that were appealing about him as a young teen, and learnign from his experiences as a Ranger. In any case, I read this before many other books that I have, though some of them had to be returned unread, or overdue. Which is a real tr...more
This book is a sequel to the Ranger's Apprentice. This book is about Will and Horace meeting up again after a long department. There seems to be an occuasion/misunderstanding of the lord of a castle called Macindaw. The lord, Orman, was the lord of the castle, until a commander, Keren who betray everyone's trust in order to gain control of the castle. So Orman and his servent, Xander escaped into the woods with the help of Will. They fled to Malcolm's place to seek shelter.

“Will looked up angrily, shaking his head in disbelief.
Will you shut up? he said tautly.
Horace shrugged in apology. 'I'm sorry' he said, I sneezed. A person can't help it when they sneeze.
Perhaps not. But you could try to make it sound a little less like an elephant trumpeting in agony; Will told him. ”

“Any sign of them yet? he asked. Will looked at him. 'Yes', he said. 'A party of fifty Scotti came though just twenty minutes ago'.
Really? Horace looked startled. He wasn't fully awake yet. Will rolled his eyes to heaven. 'Oh, my word, yes', he said. 'They were riding on oxen and playing bagpipes and drums. Of course not,' he went on. 'If they had come past, I would have woken you-if only to stop your snoring'.
I don't snore', Horace said, with dignity. Will raised his eyebrows. 'Is that so?' he said. 'Then in that case, you'd better chase out that colony of walruses who are in the tent with you...of course you snore.”
