Call it a 3.5. Grenby provides a useful and critical, if not in-depth, summary of some of the major subgenres of children's literature. Each chapter is devoted to a different subgenre: fables, poetry, moral and instructive tales, the school story, the family story, fantasy, and the adventure story.
