I read the board book How Do I Love You? By Marion Dane Bauer. In the beginning of the story a little girl poses the question- how do I love you? when she is outside during the day. Then throughout the day, she begins counting/naming the ways she loves you. At the end of the story, the little girl is outside at night and she wraps the story up by saying she loves everything you will be and already are. The age range of this story is nursery (birth-5 yrs.) because it is a simple story with simple...more
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Aurora and I were shopping at Meijer and we always go to the book section and look & read a little. They sell classics and good books there but also have lots of cheap books that have poor writing & illustrations. At first glance I thought this one was going to belong in the latter category.
As stated, I was surprised. This book has charming text and illustrations. Aurora immediately loved it and several weeks later it is still one of her favorite...more

I just love this board book. I do. The illustrations by Caroline Jayne Church had me at hello. The little girl, her curly-curl-curls, I just loved her from the get go. This book is a poem. A poem from a parent-to-a-child.
How do I love you?
Let me count the ways.
I love you as the sun
loves the bright blue days.
I love you as the bee loves a fragrant flower
I love you as the thirsty duck loves a sudden shower.
It goes on, of course, but I wouldn't dream of quoting the whole book to you! I admit that th...more

Between the two authors they have written well over 100 books for children. This is the first book by Marion Dane Bauer we have read, and about the 10th by Caroline Jayne Church. CJ Church is one of our favorite authors and illustrators. And based on this book we will need to track down more by Marion Dane Bauer. The illustrations are unmistakably in Caroline Jayne Church's style and yet they use a much brighter pallet than some of her other books. It is a wonderful little book and it will quick...more
Read with a friend this week. We agreed it was thoroughly enjoyable and well-written. We only had two criticisms of the book. First, the bunny looked a little sad on one page and we really couldn't tell why. Second, we found the choice of dinosaurs, while cute, lacking in explanation. Neither of us have any direct experience with dinosaurs and the book didn't really tell us whether they were smart / dumb / kind / scary. After a little conversation we did agree that we'd both prefer a pet duck or...more
May 09 - I read this at Babies R Us. I was very happy to see that there was a book like the one I used to read to Ryan with little girl pictures :) I was also happy to see that one of the pictures had a little girl playing with dinosaurs, not just all girly toys. However, I didn't love it as much because the other book, I Love You Through and Through, had body parts that Ryan and I would go over when we read it and this one doesn't have that.

I would give two and a half stars to this book.
I really like Marion Dane Bauer's easy reader picture books that also contain a message that is worthwhile to the reader. This book will voice the fondness and affection of many parents for their beloved progeny, and do so in a caring, sensitive way. Marion Dane Bauer has a definite way with words.

Love this book! This book illustrates a little girl that shares the ways in which she love "you". Each page has a similie that describes how the little girl loves in comparison to other things. For example: I love you as the sun loves the bright blue days. Every two pages also rhyme with one another. This book is also colorfully illustrated.
This book and I Love You Through and Through are the books my two-year-old requests the most. I love them because they bring me back to my happy place as a mom, which is a nice place to be right before nap time/bed time. I also love them because they are rather short :) and because the pages are sturdy. These will be favorites for a long time.

This book is great for beginners. It's also a good book to read to your own children. It makes good comparisons to how bees love flowers and cats love sunny window panes.
Nice, short story (more like an ode) about a parent's love with cute illustrations. I recognize the illustrator's style from the "Story of My Feelings" book with Laurie Berkner. Our girls like it enough to borrow it again from the library.
