Magnus is a man of contradictions - a spiritual leader in a warrior's body. To him, laws are for enforcing and visions must be followed - even if that means freeing a beautiful slave and making her his reluctant handmaiden. Betrayed once before, Magnus can barely bring himself to trust another woman. Yet Daenaira's fiery innocence is drawing them both into a reckless infer...more

In the end I just couldn't work up the enthusiasm to finish this book. The writing isn't bad - just so slow that even the climactic action scenes seem to be going in slow motion. Over-used inner dialogue is one of the reasons I didn't finish JF's Nightwalkers series, and - although the first book, Ecstasy gave me hope - this one falls back into her old patterns.

Other reasons I didn't really like this one: the hero Magnus is the foster father of Trace, the hero of the last book, and for some rea...more

Ecstasy, book 1 in this series, was just an ok read for me, and after enjoying most of Frank's previous Nightwalkers series, I was more than a bit letdown, so I waited quite a while before getting Rapture. But I usually give a series a 2nd chance (unless the first is really bad!), so I finally picked it up. And through more than half the book, my thought was, 'this is ok, but I think I'm done with this series' - and then everything started happening! Turns out that Shadowdwellers have a latent '...more

I am trying my hardest to take this story seriously...It's been difficult to say the least. To start with I can't seem to move past the image I created of Magnus (the male lead) in Ecstasy the first of the Shadowdeweller series. In that book, the idea of him was the father figure – older, wiser, blah, blah, blah – now suddenly I am supposed to see him as a viable character to read about…BORING! To top that off Dae (female lead) is not a very interesting character either. I mean the potential is...more

After being a bit hit or with Jacquelyn Frank's first series, The Nightwalkers, I have to admit I was iffy about this new series, The Shadowdwellers. I enjoyed the first book, Ecstasy, and so I thought that there would be a letdown with Rapture. I was very wrong. I thought this was a great book.

Magnus is the most powerful Priest in the Shadowdweller world. He acts almost as the police to capture and punish sinners, and he leads the religious and educational branch of society, called Sanctuary....more

Great story about Magnus and Daenaira. She has been held as a slave for 8 years and suddenly out of the blue, guards show up and whisk her away to the Sanctuary. She has been abused and does not trust anyone. Magnus has no idea that she has gone through such torture, he simply wants a new handmaiden and the Gods sent him Dae. The relationship between the two of them is intense and very detailed. An additional plot about someone trying to take over the Sanctuary is also included, I think just the...more

I started the Shadowdwellers series and I have to say, they just keep getting better and better. I cant wait to get my hands on the third one now!

Daenaria was abused and held slave by her family. Magnus, the head Sanctuary priest is called by Drenna, the goddess of darkness, to replace his handmaiden that had betrayed him just six weeks before. Magnus doesnt want to replace her but when Drenna sends him dreams that shows the situation becomming more and more dire for everyone the longer he waits...more

I loved Ecstasy though honestly I read it so long ago I don't remember a thing about it. I'm spending 2014 trying to get up to speed on many of the series I've started and left behind for new series. Therefore I had Rapture and Pleasure on my list to read in April. When I first started reading Rapture, I didn't remember anything about the Shadowdwellers world except that Magnus was Trace's father and this book revolved around Magnus and the priests themselves.

I can honestly say that this book w...more

I am so glad I started this series now and didn’t wait like I’ve done with Ms. Frank’s Nightwalkers series, which I’ve yet to start. This second book in the series captivated me just as much as the first, but in a whole different way. Ecstasy, the first book, dealt with the three ‘scapes for the Shadowdwellers as the hero and heroine find each other and fight for a life together and it was as intriguing, adventurous, and romantic as could be. This book, however, deals more with the betrayal that...more

until near the end of this book, I really struggled whether I liked this book or not...I think this book was full with poor attempts to include: bdsm, some elements of paranormal story, romance, sex involvin a virgin who was a slave etc...My biggest issue was the heroin: she was an abused slave , virgin and supposedly traumatised....But, in my opinion, she was a belligerent, foul mouthed, angry, rude, aggressive female with INVISIBLE testicles with the size of basketballs...
Poor attempts to expl...more

Book 2 in the paranormal romance series Shadowdwellers, about a race of supernatural people who are instantly incinerated if they are exposed to direct sunlight. Their cities are underground, in old mining tunnels. This is Magnus's story - Magnus is their religious leader. He falls in love with Daenaira, a former slave, who helps him unravel a complicated corruption web within their religious institution.

It's a solidly written, passionate, romance with some hot scenes, but th story never really...more

I loved all 3 of this series, the idea was very original and the plots were fast moving with just enough twists and turns.

Okay, as ive said repeatly this book is amazing. There basically is no words to describe why I find this book so damn amazing, unless of course you read it for yourself
Rapture is about a world were, well okay, this book comes in series, but ive only ever read this one in the series.
This book is about a women who has been enslaved for the past eight years. She not just treated like a normal slave, were you would expect doing the unpleasant chores. But no she has to do intolerable things, as if s...more

Her Aunt and Uncle are tired of her and sold her to the highest bidder, the shocked her into unconsciousness so she won’t fight them. The next moment she awakens she is in Sanctuary, the church of the Shadowdwellers led by the High Priest Magnus.

The second book in the Shadowdweller series is not as strong as the first. Though it gives a lot more insight into the Shadowdweller world and has a wonderful Beta hero, the heroine made this a less than enjoyable read.

Magnus is the head Priest in the Sanctuary. This gives him an incredible amount of power in the Shadowdweller world. He is an advisor to kings and a man who Sinners fear. But after the death of his handmaiden, Karri, after a shattering betrayal of him, Magnus is torn. His dreams a...more

Magnus, Head Priest and catcher of sinners, has lived a life of contented celibacy and idealism which began to unravel in the first of the series, Ecstasy. Led by visions from his goddess, Magnus purchases his Handmaiden, a girl who has been enslaved and abused for years. In this second book of the series, Magnus and Dae must learn to compromise and trust in order to survive the plots to overthrow his supremacy in the Shadowdwellers' temple

Having come to hate the main characters of "Ecstasy", pa...more

Well this book was a huge surprise. I just can't understand why I thought I wouldn't like this series in the first place. I just had the idea that this series wouldn't be good, so I just keep getting surprised by it over and over again.

In this installment you will find action, romance, drama, funny moments and everything you love about books form this genre. The hero is alpha to the core and the heroine is spicy and fun. The most interesting scenes develop between this two characters, and the ch...more

It took me a while to get into this book. I’m not sure why, probably just preoccupation. I finally set myself to the task of reading it. And lucky for me, I found myself at the scene with the observation tower. I definitely took notice.

I really enjoyed this novel. The political affair of the Nightwalkers is a central piece in all the Jacquelyn Frank novels I’ve read. This was no different. Oh the twisted webs we weave....more

How do I review this book when I love everything about it?

I love this series and I hope Ms. Frank continues to write more stories in this series. The romance is beautiful because Frank pairs the perfect individuals with each other. Magnus and Daenaira are extremely strong individuals, both can not be swayed easily.

Magnus is devout in his faith and his duty as a penance priest and the Sanctuary is his life's work. There is a traitor in the midst of his religious home and it's his responsibility...more

After loosing his hand maiden in the first book, when she tried to kill him, Magnus has been reluctant to choose another one, but his goddess insists. She has chosen Daenaira for him, a young woman of only 20 years, and if not for her hard life, she would have considered a child by Shadowdweller standards, as they are very long-lived.
Daenaira grew up in her mother’s pub, listening to the warriors when they spoke of their battles, and learning how to fight at an early age. In a society where it...more

Rapture is the story of Magnus, the priest/leader of Sanctuary (religous organization of the Shadowdwellers), and Daenaira a former slave, who through their gods are brought together to form the most amazing of bonds while growing and protecting each other. This is the second installment in the Shadowdweller series.

At the end of the first book Magnus finds himself betrayed and poisoned by his handmaiden. Drenna (goddess of darkness) leads him through his dreams to Dae, a shadowdweller who is bei...more

Probably the best in the series. Who would have thought so? I honestly didn't.. But there it is. I liked it. :)

This is the second novel in the Dwellers series and I think it was also the best one, with a 2.5, or.. hm, maybe a 3 stars rating. The hero and heroine are more interesting to read about and have a deeper connection than the other couples in Frank's novels. Which doesn't say much because most of the times these couples don't have any connection at all, but in their case I could deal...more

Magnus is my favorite Hero of the Shadowswellers, although I LOVE them all! The Shadowdwellers are my favorite of the Nightwalkers. I love their culture, their wisdom and teachings, their view's on women, and of course the men are a true out-of-this-world fantasy! The Shadowdweller series is my favorite of Frank's novels, although I love all the Nightwalker books! I only wish she'd write more books in the Shadowdweller Series.

I so wasn't expecting to be drawn into the story for Magnus. He just didn't come across as all that appealing for me in Trace's book. Oh my was I wrong. Dae and Magnus were a magnetic and extremely sexy couple. Her abuse at the hands of her captors made her an interesting choice for handmaiden to the highest priest in Sanctuary, but even more interesting was the way Magnus was drawn to her spirit, her spark, and her body. For the first time ever, Magnus found himself wanting the full intimate re...more
Fantastical Reviews
I devoured this book in one day, a must read i say! Magnus is my favourite character out of the series, he is quite complex. The interactions between these two characters had me rolling with laughter, i loved that Dae wasn't some meek female in need of protection. If you are looking for a sexy but serious read then please give this book ago and judge it for yourself.

I give this a 4.5 star.

For those of you who read the first one in the series that was not too happy with it, let me just say that this one was better, so don't even think of not reading this one cause you will be missing out.I'm dying to know what happens between Guin and Malaya. So I can't wait to start the next one.

P.S.

Jacquelyn the only reason this book didn't get the 5 start from me, is because I think you should of mention at the end that Dae had gone back to her old life and make certain s...more

The story about Magnus, well I was very excited and my expectations were very high for this book. And it began very good. The whole story was great, full of action, passion and desire. Magnus is a very interesting and attractive character, well, he is the "leader" of the shadowdwellers. The best, strongest and most dangerous. The story between him and Dae is really hot! I loved it to read about them both.

You can follow the author in the world of the shadowdwellers better than in the first book....more

“But before you forget, while you sit stagnant in your little corner of the board, there is one piece that obeys almost no rules and has her own commands. Utter freedom is the way of the queen. She is your most powerful piece, your very best ally, the ruination of your enemy—but only if you utilize her properly, my king. Only if you are willing to do what it takes to plumb the debts of her power to aid you to victory. Just try to win without her, and you'll see you are doomed to failure.” 0 likes
