The Holy Terror
This is about an incredibly materialistic, shallow, melodramatic preteen who is whiny and annoying. This is not something I'd tell anyone in this book's targeted age range to read. I thought I was getting Diary of a Wimpy Kid for girls but it's basically a whinefest with no substance. And the way the kids talk is nowhere near natural. Everything is over-the-top drama and none of it is funny. Plus the whole thing is supposed to be a diary written by the girl but everything plays out in real time. ...more
Gr 5-7 – The Dork Diaries details the life of 14 year old Nikki J. Maxwell over a period of 6 weeks. Nikki has been awarded a scholarship to the prestigious, private middle school, Westchester Country Day as a part of her father’s bug extermination contract with said school. Nikki’s angst as she deals with the school’s resident mean girl, her embarrassing parents, her crush on the hot boy and making new friends are all recorded alongside numerous sketches of her life. Although occasionally amusi ...more
You will love Nikki Maxwell! Cute, cool & captivating!

The heroine of this YA story is eighth-grader Nikki Maxwell, a cute, cool and captivating girl you will fall in love with. Although the word cute is not a cool vocabulary choice for today's kids, I use it here because I love that word; it means much more than cool. To me it encompasses looks, personality and sincerity, while cool is...well "cool" can be a pose with some kids. So our NIkki is not only cool to her friends, she's also c

I imagine this book is what would result if Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Mean Girls had a baby. Nikki has just started out at a brand new private school. She only got in because her dad did some exterminating for the school. She is desperate to become part of the popular crowd, which is hard since she doesn't shop at the hottest mall shops and her dad drives a van with a giant roach on top. Much like Greg from Wimpy Kid fame she tries several different ways to make sure that she joins the popular cr ...more
This is obviously a quick cash-in on the Wimpy Kid craze, and it shows. Oh, it SHOWS. Though derivative, I honestly wouldn't have minded a Wimpy Kid from the female perspective, but then I remembered - we already have that in the Amelia series by Marissa Moss, which is much better written and illustrated, and not to mention heartfelt.

The Dork Diaries is painfully vapid and shallow, and our protagonist Nikki is not particularly likable. I'm really not a fan of how she blames popular Mean Girl Mac
Dork Diaries is a great book. I recommend it to all girls who like excitement and longer books. Once you have read the first book you will want to read all the others
Friends, it’s sad. Our heroine of Dork Diaries, Nikki, appears confused.

First off, she appears to think she’s a dork. No, not the word frequently thought to refer to a whale’s genitalia, but an awkward-type person.

Oh, Nikki. Silly Nikki. You’re not a dork, sweetie, you’re just a brat. You can tell by the way you behave!

Brats might take the money their Mom has given them to buy their Dad a Father’s Day present, and spend it all at the food court. They may find an elderly neighbor’s hearing aid
Dork diaries is about a girl that is not popular at all and she has this huge crush on a guy that is just perfect. The mean girl is just making it to hard for her, first her locker is right next to her's... I don't think I can count how many insults she has said to her. Second: the mean asked Brandon to the dance but he said no, she still has a chance but sense Brandon wont go with her she canceled the dance ( her parents are paying for the dance sense they are rich) so it's up to her to save it ...more

I'm a 4th grade teacher and have been longing for a book for the girls in my classroom that was comparable to "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." While "Wimpy Kid" is hilarious, the girls in the book are very minor, undeveloped characters at best. After discovering "Dork Diaries: Tales From a Not-So-Fabulous Life," I finally got my wish for His and Her books. I think this book will also be great for my reluctant readers.

Nikki Maxwell is just starting the year at a snobby, private middle school. Not only do

I didn't like this one as much as I did Diary of a Wimpy Kid. In fact, I don't think I'll be reading any more of these. The thing I like about DoaWK, is that it appeals to everyone, boys or girls, young or old. Plus, I liked the drawings in Wimpy Kid better. I felt like I couldn't enjoy Dork Diaries unless I was an 11 year old girl. I'm not saying it's bad, because it is good. It just didn't appeal to me. But I you liked Lizzie Maguire, then you'll probably like this one.

Nikki is funny with her
These fly off the shelves in our middle school library. Frankly, for readers looking for a female counterpoint to Wimpy Kid or Big Nate, I guess this would work BUT it's not half as clever or funny as those titles. The protagonist, Nikki, is shallow. She's constantly worrying about her clothes and the popular girl's birthday party. She doesn't spend much time worrying about school or other worthwhile activities, although they're haphazardly thrown in as a cursory nod to a well-balanced life. Hon ...more
After an intense month of reading novels with intercultural themes, I thought a break, in the form of chick lit might be warranted. Turns out, I don’t always have smart ideas. In my second week of delving into light reading, I’m already flipping pages just to get to the end of another dang book. This time my reading adventures led me to Dork Diaries by Rachel Russell, which I checked out because it was being touted as the girls’ equivalent to the Wimpy Kid series. The latter I am proud to share ...more

I've read these books a million years ago, but I'm just now rating them in honor of Book 7 coming VERY VERY SOON....

*My Review:

This book was AWESOME! I got hooked on them because of my cousin Jacob. He had all these Diary of a Wimpy Kid books with him. I wanted to read those really bad but then he told me there's a series like this about a girl. The next day we went to Walmart and I bough the 3rd. I read them out of order I know... That summer I got 1 and 2. I know, I'm slowly getting to the re

This is a lot of fun, though much less extreme than its obvious inspiration, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I almost can't stand to read Wimpy Kid because the narrator is so brilliantly unreliable and he is always doing such terrible things with no insight and having such terrible things happen to him. There are certain similar moments in Dork Diaries, as when our heroine-narrator has to ride in her father's exterminator-mobile with a giant, super-realistic plastic cockroach on the hood of the car, and w ...more
Nikki Maxwell, 8th grader and artist, has to switch schools when her father gets a contract (he owns a pest-control business) that enables her to go to private school – Westchester Country Day. Nikki feels like a dork at her new school – she’s practically invisible, except when she’s a klutz or a spaz (the only times her classmates seem to notice her at all). She’d like to be cute, cool and popular (CCP), but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen any time soon – MacKenzie, the leader of the ...more

A quick and easy read about 14 year old Nikki’s take on her life as she enters 8th grade at an exclusive school. She feels like an outsider that can not compare to those peers surrounding her, thus, she is a dork. Between the insights of Nikki and her illustrations, Dork Diaries was a delight to read. Most of the entries, written on lined paper, included an illustration of that day’s angst. These illustrations added to ser

I really like Dork Diaries, because it is a really funny book and love to read it. The main character named Nikki goes to a new high school where she has no friends and no chance of ever being popular. She enters in this big art competition to win the $500 grand prize and get a new cellphone to make her as popular as ever. Until a girl named Mackenzie tries to pull out of school and make her less popular. She finds 2 new friends named Cloe and Zoe who just put up books in the library to get out ...more

Dork Diarys is by Rachel Russel .It is about a girl who has a diary and keeps her thoughts inside it. I think its really cool that the author thought to make her book about some ones life and turn it in to the pages of a diary. I remeber writing in diary when i was little and putting all my feelings in to that book. It was really suprising when i started reading this book because you dont expect a diary type of book. My favorite thing about this book is if she dosent like some people she makes t ...more

This is a really good book. I love this book every time I read it. I have read it at least twice, maybe more than that, I’m not quite sure.
The book is about a girl that just got transferred to a new school. The school was named WCD. The actual name of the school is Westchester County Day.
In the beginning of this story Nikki Maxwell, the main character, wanted a new cell phone. She wanted to fit in with the CCP group. This is the cute, cool, and popular group. She was pretty sure that everyon

Tales from a Not So Fabulous Life is the first book in the Dork Diaries series by Rachel Renée Russell.

Nikki J. Maxwell is an eighth grader that recently changed schools and is now going Westchester Country Day, a private school, because her dad has an extermination contract with the school. She wants to become a part of the CCP girls, Cute, Cool and Popular girls, and she believes a new cell phone will help her do just that. She thought that her mom got her one but realizes is just a diary.

Dork Diaries is definitely similar to the Wimpy Kid series. While the Wimpy Kid books appeals to both boys and girls, I don't know how many boys will want to read the Dork Diaries series. We've had quite a few girls ask for the books, but I don't recall any boys. Nikki Maxwell is starting at a new school and is very nervous so her mother gets her a diary so that she can keep track of her memories. Nikki really wants to be part of the CCP (cute, cool & popular) clique, but after a bad interac ...more

The main characters of this book are Nikki a girl in middle school, Mackanzie a girl in middle school that always tries to embarrass Nikki, Brianna Nikki's sister, and Nikki's and Brianna' parents. The plot of this story is that Nikki was a wimp in the beggining of the school and turned out to become very popular. In the story Nikki is very embarrassed that she does not have a phone and she thinks that she is the only one the does not have a phone so she starts to sell a bunch of tatoos that sh
A book that i have been reading over the summer is the Dork Diaries. in the one i have been reading its about a 14 year old girl named Nikki who is a little shy and naive. the few problems she runs into are 1 she is a good artist and wants to enter the art contest but the mean girl Mackenzie enters and makes her not want to enter. she also encounters a crush on a very popular boy and gets embarrassed by accidents that occur. along the way she makes 2 very good friends who in some cases you would ...more
I have to admit if I were just rating this for myself it would be three stars, but I read it because I get constant requests for it from elementary to middle school aged girls and can see why they would give it four if not five stars. It hits its target audience dead on, and the fact that I didn't love it probably testifies even more strongly why they would. You might call it a girl version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (which I gave three stars) because the style and format are very similar, but them ...more
this book is for 9yo, but am 19 and i really enjoy reading it.
Nikki is a middle schooler at a fancy private school, where she has gotten a scholarship because her father is the school’s exterminator. She is finding it difficult to fit in and make friends because of her self-proclaimed dork status. When her mother buys her a present, she hopes it is a cell phone, but instead she receives a blank journal to record her thoughts. Her journal entries, along with little comics she draws are the book that we read. Nikki chronicles life with her annoying sister, h ...more
