Did anyone else notice the sexual tension between Mr Satterthwaite and Harley Quinn?

This is a collection of short stories including some featuring Hercule Poirot, a Parker Pyne story and some Mr Satterthwaite and Harley Quinn stories as well as a couple which don’t feature any of the author’s regular detectives. I particularly enjoyed the Harley Quinn stories as they always have that extra dimension as well as being mysteries.

I particularly enjoyed the last story in the collection ‘Magnolia Blossom’ which caused me to reach for the tissues. It certainly shows human nature in t

Rather a mish-mash of eight short stories which don't really have much to do with each other. Two Poirots, two "Harley Quin and Mr Satterthwaite", two Parker Pyne and two short stories with no main detective. I think I enjoyed "The Harlequin tea set" the most

This was a bit of a mixed bag. There were eight short stories, some better than others. I was disappointed that they were not all Poirot, some of Christie's other detective characters just don't measure up to him.

Some of these stories are far ramblier than others (the one with Mr Satterwaite comes immediately to mind.) However, I did like Problem at Pollensa Bay and Yellow Iris. Some of the stories aren't actually mysteries, but I suppose coming to the end of the series (with Poirot in only one story, and even then a story I've already read before) I should get used to Mr. Parker Pyne and a whole lot of other people I've never met before. (Why on earth is this book in the Hercule Poirot series? For that ...more

Upgrading this rating to 2.5 stars after rereading it in 2015.

I found this collection of short stories to be a bit of a grab bag. On the whole, it was a pleasant way to spend some time however, I find several of these stories not really to my taste. In particular, I am not a fan of the hint of supernatural found in the Mr. Satterthwaite stories.

I did like the two Parker Pyne stories "The Problem at Pollensa Bay" and "The Regatta Mystery" and the non-mystery story "Next to a Dog" was very touchi

Agatha Christie's short fiction is very different to her novels. I'm not sure if she was just experimenting, but some of these stories are very weird. The book is worth a read because, as the stories span decades of her career, they provide an interesting overview of her changing style.

My first meeting with Mr Satterwaite and Harley Quin. I must say it was quite a supernatural and weird meeting.

While the Poirot and Parker Pyne stories are good, the highlights of this collection are a couple of stories that don't fit the mold of the typical murder mystery generally associated with Christie's name:[return][return]"The Harlequin Tea Set"--I can't say much about the plot without giving away the ending (which has an almost surreal quality to it), but this is a brilliant and beautifully crafted tale with a strong emphasis on visual description and color which both enables (almost forces!) th ...more

This is a collection of short stories as follows:

Problem at Pollensa Bay (Parker Pyne)
The Second Gong (Hercule Poirot)

The Regatta Mystery (Parker Pyne)
The Love Detectives (Mr Satterthwaite and Harley Quin)

Though I enjoyed it, a few of the stories were mere re-runs or formulas. The two Parker Pynes present nothing new or interesting. Yellow Iris is the same plot as Sparkling Cyanide, a

I didn't realise till i started the book that it's 8 short stories. Some work better than others & my favpourites were the ones with Hercule Poirot & Parker Pyne. I do enjoy Agatha Christie though, i love the period her books are set in i could quite see myself motoring up to London, dressing for dinner & even cruising round the med. Compared to modern crime novels the murders are quite tame, no blood & gore or murdered prostitutes but even so they are real page turners & i n ...more

Eight Agatha Christie short stories.

I had read half of these before, but I hadn't read either of the Mr Quin stories or the final two stories.

The last two in the book, Next to a Dog and Magnolia Blossom, feel more like the works Christie put out under the pen name, Mary Westmacott.

I quite enjoyed this collection, even though Next to a Dog made me cry. :(

Seriously looked all over for the book just for the Harlequin Tea Set story. I suppose I have a updated publication of this book as it featured another adventure of Satterthwaite's.

Despite the fact that I only found this book for Satterthwaite's stories, the other stories were just as thrilling and enigmatic, all beautifully written.

Complete review available: Problem at Pollensa Bay

This is one of those books it's probably better to stop half-way through. Problems at Pollensa Bay was a thoroughly mixed bag of short stories by Christie. The Harlequin Tea Set and The Love Detectives offered a display of her talent, but others fell far short of Christie's usual standard. The last two in the book were not crime stories, a fact at which many take offence, but act as satisfactory studies on character, and are certainly not the wor

I enjoyed about half of these short stories. The ones with Parker Pyme and Poirot were, as always, entertaining. However, the last two stories in the collection were not mysteries. They were simply short stories, perhaps they could be classified as romances, and one of them was quite depressing. So really, four out of the collection were good.

This is another book served as Agatha's anthology for her 3 detectives; Poirot, Parker Pyne and Harley Quin. Eight different theme of stories with various ending. Few ended with happily ever after, one or two dead and the rest were still floating with mysteries.

Ficou a faltar a inigualável Miss Marple!

Another short story collection from Christie, but this one includes a lot of stories that have been included in previous collections I've read. Of the five new stories in this collection I enjoyed the two Satterthwaite and Quin stories the best although I did find it interesting to read Yellow Iris, the short story that Christie later edited and expanded to become Sparkling Cyanide. The latter two stories in the collection were not mysteries so much as human stories and I have to confess that Ne ...more

Eight Agatha Christie short stories, some old favourites, some new to me. The only thing missing was that neither Tommy and Tuppence nor Miss Marple were included. However, Mr Satterthwaite and his mysterious friend Mr. Harley Quin make two appearances, and Mr. Parker Pyne is featured in two, as is everyones beloved H. Poirot.

Stories that I had never seen before are Next to a Dog and Magnolia Blossom. These two stories are more about human nature and do not have a need for a person to come in an
