I’m used to vampire books that are full of brooding main characters, bemoaning their lack of soul, life and friends. Vamped was different.
Usually, this would be a good thing.
Readers are first introduced to Gina as she wakes up and finds herself stuck in a coffin. She doesn’t panic, and after some quick thinking, deduces that she is dead and now a vampire. The obvious conclusion: if she’s dead and not a zombie, she’s definitely a vampire. Right?

I found this at the library in the teen section. Gina Covello's Perks and Pitfalls of Vamp Life is listed on the back, and it made me laugh, so I had to pick it up.
Gina got into some heavy necking with the Chess Geek now Stud at a party, and hadn't realised the biting and nipping they were doing was more than it seemed, until she was in a car accident on the way home and then found herself digging out of her own grave. Luckily Bobby (Geek Stud) arrived at the cemetery with a bag of clothes from...more

Today's review is on Vamped by Lucienne Diver
If you have ever read MaryJanice Davidson'S Undead series and you enjoyed it, you should pickup Vamped. It's a great G rated version for teens. Plus, it's a good one day read. Though the character development is lacking, it still has a good base story line.

Vamped is an interesting choice to read because Lucienne Diver is one of the agents I would love to have. I picked up her book in part to see what attracts her, but that dual purpose was lost after about chapter two. Everyone is clear that chicklit is dead, but me, I see chicklit is actually undead. I first ran across this in Michelle Rowen s fun vampire novels, and Vamped is another along these lines, if aimed at a younger crowd. The main character, Gina, is an unrepentant popular girl with he...more
At the beginning of this novel, I felt like I'd missed the first chapter or so. It took me awhile to catch up with things and figure out what was going on. Even so, I was about halfway into the novel before I felt like I was really into the novel and knew what was going on, who the characters were and where things were headed. But, once I got there, it was fun. There was Gina, obsessed with her looks who had no reflection. Then she's separated from her boyfriend who has some kind of superpowers...more
Vamped is about a girl named Gina who becomes a vampire becuase she was bittne by her boyfriend Bobby. He finds her in the cemetery covered in mud which obviously shows she dug her way out, they get forced to move into a house and become soldiers/prisoners which happens to have there whole grade already there including her exboyfriend and the girl who she hates who's dating her ex boyfriend. Gina must find a way to live her glamorous vampire life and save her class mates before they all become...more
After Gina wakes, and is forced to claw her way out of her grave, she knows something is off. This is confirmed after she is greeted by Bobby, a geek-turned-vampire, who tells her that she's a vampire, too. One mistake on prom night, and she's now the undead. After being abducted, she is a forced to live in a dorm setting with her other classmates (who have also been vamped). That's when the trouble really begins.

You have to appreciate a vampire whose first thought is to turn her stylist because she can no longer see herself in the mirror. Imagine Elle Woods meeting Dracula and you'll get the idea what this funny, snarky, chick-lit romp is all about. I loved listening in on Gina's clueless internal monologue ("Missionary" style furniture) that was often laugh-out-loud funny and I liked watching Gina come into her own as the leader of her HS cohorts. But overall, I found the story a little muddled and wou...more
You know that old phrase "all dressed up and no where to go"? For me, this describes Vamped perfectly. Told in first person, we meet Gina, an interesting, savvy, hilarious narrator (with a killer fashion sense) who gets turned into a vamp. I loved her voice, I loved the way she saw the world and her new predicament, I loved her spontaneity and her knack for always speaking what was on her mind. The problem is she was put in drop dead gorgeous heels and then had no where to walk around in them.

A young adult vampire book with a nice take on vampires, but one incredibly annoying vampire.
I will download just about anything on Amazon that is free and happens to catch me interest. Vamped was one of those books. It was decent for a free read or perhaps a check out from the library, but it certainly wouldn't be worth a buy. I did actually like how vampires were treated in this book. The vampires were more traditional with being able to be hurt by holy water and crosses (with true faith behin...more

In VAMPED, Gina woke up in her new vampire life. I loved her hilarious freak out moments about how she would be unable to see herself in a mirror. She definitely was not a mean girl but she had style, a bit of a 'tude, and she never let anyone put her down. And I loved the fact that the drama of the story wasn't created by a love triangle. There are so many books that use the romance as the main conflict, but this book was different. Bobby and Gina had a hot and heavy makeout session before she...more

When I requested a sample of this novel for my Kindle and read the first couple of pages, I clicked "Buy Now" immediately and was amped to keep reading. Sadly, my hopes were dashed somewhere around chapter three when I realized that the "vapid Gina" act wasn't really an act, it was the real deal. To be perfectly frank, this novel is a train wreck and it's difficult to point a finger at one particular problem, so I tried my best to parse them out into list form (this was more for my own sanity th...more
Gina Covello wakes up in a coffin after she dies in an accident. To her horror she realizes she is a Vampire and the boy who made her one, Bobby, is one of the geeks turned dashing and handsome vampire too. Bobby is kidnapped by Mellisande and Gina is sent to a dungeon like place where she finds many of her classmates, apparently turned into vampires too.
Now Gina has to discover Mellisande’s purpose in building a teenage vampire army. And also why Bobby is singled out by her? What exactly does M...more

No sparkly, brooding vampires here. Main Character Gina is turned Vampire and with her to the other side she took her good fashion sense, her desire to keep her hair dresser, her same confident (not-quite-but-almost) man-eating attitude.
This is a fun quick read about Gina, the boy who turned her, the boys gifts (which is causing all of the hair tangling ruckus,) and a lair, or in the case house, of vamps being used as a mini-army. No matter what the situation Gina is as much worried about her in...more

Vamped is a cheeky take on a world where vampires are real and the top candidate for a vampire army is teenagers in a small town. It is a first person narrative told from the perspective of a feisty teen girl. A fashionista who has just as much pride as she does style. It is funny reading a book where girl world and vamp land collide to be a weird mean girls vampire story that is refreshing in an awful kind of way. The concpet is fun but it doesn't seem to spike as hard during the climax and I h...more
I like light, funny vampire books (see Bloodthirsty) and that’s what this one tried to be. And while I know saying something was a bit unbelievable about a book about vampires, I found a few things to be somewhat hard to swallow. First off, Gina wakes up in a coffin and comes to the conclusion that since she’s obviously dead she must be a vampire because she didn’t feel like a flesh-eating zombie. And she’s more concerned about what her parents buried her in than her current situation. Additiona...more

Vampire books seem to have spawned up all over the place. They are everywhere, and I think we all know who to thank for this. Every bookshop I go in seems to have a full shelf dedicated to these blood drinking vampires. I really doubt they will ever go out of fashion, especially the ones that sparkle in the sun. I will admit, I love my fair share of vampire books, but to stand out from the crowd, you need something unique and a well drawn plot and fully formed, life-like characters, and sadly, V...more
I really , really wanted to like this book, but something was just... off. The book opens up with our main character, Gina, clawing her way out of her coffin, realizing she is now a vampire. Then we meet her sire, who was a former chess geek and is now her... boyfriend????
I found Gina to be self centered and downright annoying. We as readers get no real chance to get to know Gina, or any of the other characters for that matter. It almost feels like we missed an entire prequel. The scenes jumped...more

Gina was not a real character. No human being (or former human being!) like this would exist in this dimension or any other. Gina was more a running joke than a character, with as much depth as an article in Cosmo.
Someone compared her to Cordelia on Buffy. Yes, Cordelia was superficial and hilariously biting, but Cordelia had at least some substance to her character. I couldn't finish this. It was simply ridiculous.

This was a quick read full of fun. In fact, did you read "The Short Life of Bree Despain"? I did and was disappointed. Um, more correctly, unsatisfied. Well, Diver took a similar story--new vamps created to aid in a coup attempt by another vampire and did what I wanted Meyer to do. She gave the new vamps some intelligence, some personality, and some guts. Once properly motivated and informed they did not walk blindly to their deaths as pawns in someone elses game. They decided to take their futu...more

A book that had a strong and distinctive voice for a narrator, but which quickly became boring and "spazzy" by being so plot driven that the narrator's voice got lost, and even down right annoying. The main character is a character you can't take too seriously, what with going on and on about her nails and her clothing, but the conflict itself is taken seriously (and should), which killed the book. Many times, I'd read part of page, and then blink, because I have no clue what just happened betwe...more

Gina Covello's life-altering night in only six words: went to prom, became a vampire.
Well, it's really not that simple. There were some things Gina could have done to prevent this. For one, she could have stuck with her boyfriend, Chaz, during prom instead of making out with the transformed, now uber gorgeous chess geek, Bobby. She could have found a better place so Chaz would not actually see this occur. She could have not gon...more

Main character aside, Vamped by Lucienne Diver had its enjoyable moments, particularly the last hundred pages or so when the action was thick and the characters were put to the test. The carnage during the climax and the unsettling nature of the psychic vampire were truly disturbing scenes that made that sick, sadistic part of me stand up and cheer. It’s that eerily dark side of me that helped bump the score up to 4 tombstones.

Can't truely say i read the book becuase after the second chapter, i wanted to throw myself off the roof of my house. Never in my life had i encountered such an annoying character. The tone that seemed to pop out the page, was shrill. Like i was ready to burn the book. 2 chapters! No person, Realistiically, could be so self-centered and egotistical. The main character expected everything to land on her lap. That juust irritated the crap out of me. Don't think i will ever try to read this book ag...more
A big thanks to Lucienne herself for sending me a copy of VAMPED to review! This 4 stars is super close to 5, like 4 3/4! Maybe I should just mark it five. This book is written with a fabulous voice, and if you like a good vampire novel, and fun quick read with lots of wit, this is the one for you. It reminds me of Cordelia from Buffy turning Vamp with a concience. It was great! For a full review and author interview check out http://myfavoriteauthor.blogspot.com the second week of Feb.
