One of the most interesting aspects of this collection of Capote's letters is the revelation of his very strict ideas about the raising of young women. Perhaps this shouldn't come as a surprise, considering that one of his most steadfast principles concerned developing a more or less lifelong "look," which he didn't much differentiate from character. Was he wrong not to draw more stringent and fastidious lines? Oscar Wilde, who also knew a thing or two about prisons, said that only sup More...

Too Brief a Treat: The Letters of Truman Capote is so funny and scandalous! Capote's letters are a chronicle of his life, almost like a biography. And he writes about others (Montgomery Clift, Tennessee Williams, John Huston, Humphrey Bogart, and so on) that he's met and worked with. Among the highlights ...include his idea for a comic strip .... it's a train, it's a plane, no, it's Super Queen! Super Queen the comic strip; maybe he saw himself as the lead! Who knew just reading letters could give you a complete picture of a person?! The editor chose the letters perfectly, to give a sense of time, place and personality. If you like Truman Capote, or are just fascinated by him, or you long for the days when letter writing was an art, then this book is for you.

This was a kind gift. Parts of it were fun. But I found I am not that into Truman Capote.

Very enlightening about the life and times of Capote. We get a better understanding about his mannerisms, quirks, and cares here. One example, he seems to get fixated on Ten. Will. a bit and bad mouths him, but you don't find the same sort of animosity in any of Ten.'s documents about Capote.

A very good read for anyone who loves the author or the genre. Or, excellent for anyone interested in writing and the writing scene of the 1950's-60's.

Liked this collection of correspondence. He was such a good writer. It is sad that he endured/caused such turmoil at the end of his life. Enjoyed being a little part of his literary circle when authors were highly celebrated and didn't have to write a series or a new book every year.

1,000 times better than the juiciest gossip mag. But also tragic.
