Browsing through GR feed keeps on bringing old favourites to mind. This novel of a legendary horse, the famous Valley of Gold and a young cowboy was enjoyable when I read it as a teen. It was a Western where the Native Americans were shown in favourable light.
This is a good Western, telling the story of a stallion called Dark Fury, who is captured and used in a circus. The Indians that live in his native range, come to find him and help set him free. As they try to keep the wranglers away from him on his journey across the desert, a young cowboy sets after him, torn between wanting him for himself and wanting to see him roam the West as a free creature.
