For years DK has been producing fantastic book after fantastic book in the "Eyewitness" series, and Viking is no different. At a full 72 pages, the volume covers everything from ship building to meal time to burials. Warriors and weapons are given equal treatment with women, children, the home, and farming. Like all DK Eyewitness Books, Viking is packed with color photographs, in this case of archeological finds and historical recreations of the Viking Age. What surprised me was how much information Susan M. Margeson has written to accompany Peter Anderson's photographs. The book was not only delightful to look at but fascinating to read. A great resource for anyone interested in the history of the Vikings.
The DK Eyewitness series are awesome tools for research or just delving into a favorite topic. This re-issue of the Viking book provides a unique view into the lives of the Norse people, their legends and their bravery. You can further explore their amazing stories with a foldout wall chart and a clip-art CD. A great book to add to your collection, for ages 9 to Adult.

Forgot to add this book to my list, but I love these Eyewitness books because of the abundance of photos and illustrations to help imagine the past. These are basic, introductory books, but a great starting point.
