A good book that could have been really excellent. It starts off brilliantly with three daughters of a victorian architect, Edward Glass, who get a new stepmother. There are wonderful characters such as Philip Eames, the architect's clerk; Dr Morgan (Mr Glass's first wife cousin) who is a successful con-artist who can talk to the dead. Glass becomes ever more successful, eventually building the New Paris Grand hotel in the Strand, but over-reaches himself and the his life and the whole edifice ...more
