Jack Nicholson is a fascinating character - a man who found out the woman he believed to be his sister was really his mother and his "mother" was really his grandmother (not unlike one of his best movies Chinatown) - and one who has stayed at the top of the heap for decades. He's unapologetic in his demand for complete loyalty while at the same time he will simply cut off contact when he is displeased. A very appropriate title for a book that concentrates on a character that spanned several decades. Actor biographies are a mixed bag: many are written with obvious bias. Some/most are written by fans who compare the star’s work to others, putting the star on a pedestal as a person who changed the world or inspired historical events. Sometimes they’re written with contempt towards the star and their egocentric/sloth lifestyle. MacDougal’s Jack bio falls somewhere in the middle of the pack.
