On the very day that Jacky Faber is to wed her true love, she is kidnapped by British Naval Intelligence and forced to embark on yet another daring mission—this time to search for sunken Spanish gold. But when Jacky is involved, things don't always go as planned. Jacky has survived battles on the high seas, the stifling propriety of a Boston finishing school, and even conf...more

Considering my distaste with how long L.A. Meyer is dragging on about maintaining Jacky's virginity and her frustrating relationship with British Navy, I loved this book.

Jacky is finally reunited with her beloved Jaimy and they are nearly at the alter getting married, when Jacky is whisked away by the British Naval Intelligence to recover sunken Spanish gold. Supposedly, they are still angry that she didn't kill Napoleon when she had the chance, so her punishment is to abstain from s...more

3.5 Stars. I'm just ready for Jacky & Jaimy to GET MARRIED AND DO IT! Yeah that's cruder than I normally am but Jacky is so free with her affection that I'm just ready now.

I enjoyed Jaimy being in this book, as well as Lord Richard Alan briefly showing up (he's sexiness). Actually the plot of this story was fine. I liked the diving.

I didn't like Aunt Jemima's Brother Rabbit story or the cockfighting. I need more singing & flirting & less of that.

I chose to read Rapture of the Deep by: L.A. Meyer. This book is the seventh in the Bloody Jack Adventures series. It’s a great book about a girl named Mary “Jacky” Faber, who goes on many psychotic pirate adventures. If you like a suspenseful book with pirates, gold, and spy’s then the book is just for you.

This series is about how Jacky Faber, a girl from “the cheap side” of London whose parents die when she was a little girl was forced to survive on her own. So after Jacky’s pa...more

I was so incredibly disappointed in this book I rather lack the words to describe it. I adored the first five books in this series - I thought they were funny, pleasantly raunchy, and well-researched enough to make it not total candy fluff. Jacky Faber was a memorable protagonist and all in all, the series was just cool. The last book I'd read in the series (#6, My Bonny Light Horseman) seemed to lack all that, as well as credibility (Jacky meets Napoleon?!), but I decided to give it another ...more

As I read off the last sentence of this book, I find myself almost melancholy. I know I have but one more adventure of Jacky’s to enjoy, and that saddens me greatly.

This novel seemed less “over the top” than the rest. In each of the others, I felt like I was strapped to a rickety roller coaster on a track with its rails missing, careening towards possible doom and certain adventure. This time the ride seemed more steady… more sure. Yet it was still highly enjoyable!

Jacky is finally in the same place as Jaimy at the same time and prepares to marry him. I breathed a sigh of relief, but it was too soon.
They are separated, again, and she is being used by British Intelligence once more. Thankfully, she isn't being asked to prositiute herself this time. Instead she's sailing on her own ship and searching for treasure.
I really like the character of Jacky. I love her devotion to her friends, her common sense attitude, her intelligence and her toughness...more

Just as a note to start, this is one of the best books/series to listen to... Katherine Kellgren is amazing and the accents and music bring the story to life in a way you don't get from reading the print version. So... go listen to it!

This is one of my favorite YA series, which feels weird to say, because I normally can't stand historical fiction. I've also finally caught up to the end of the series, and now have to wait for the next book. Jacky is a phenomenal character and the sor...more

Oh Jacky, I am so flipping sad to know that there are no new books for me to read about your wild adventures, constant flirting, abundant flesh showing, crazy ideas, and fantastic personality. When I finished book 7 I felt like I had lost a friend. I guess I'm just going to have to reread them.
So, if you couldn't tell, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loves the premise. I loved the location. I loved Higgins. I loved Davey on the ship with her and their constant bickering. I love Hi...more

The Jacky of this book was as unbelievable, adorable and absorbing as I've come to expect. We get to see much more of some characters from the first book, including Jaimy.

I had a hard time swallowing the talk about Jack's virginity in the beginning of this tale. Knowing it was written by a male author, I guess, made it feel a little skeezy. I told myself that such conversation, particularly between Higgins and Jacky, may have been historically accurate. The man is her bedroom c...more

Rapture of the Deep is about Jacky Faber. She is a ex-convict of the British Empire. She has sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. She is the main character but there are several other not always included at the story they might be in one book and not come back for 4 or 5 books or they might be in every book not as involved though.

The book is mainly about her going down to the Caribbean and Diving on a wreck saying more than that would give away the story because the plot is focused on o...more

Meyer never fails to deliver an amazing tale of love, adventure, friendship, and the luck of a certain impulsive maiden.

The momment a good friend had thrusted the town library's battered copy of Bloody Jack into my reluctant hands, and commanded me to read the first chapter, I was spellbound.

In a little over a week, I had flashed through the available following books. I ended today, on Rapture of the Deep, starving for the next installment.

I'm going back and changing all my Bloody Jack books to 5 stars. I've so thoroughly enjoyed this entire series that I've just sailed through them so quickly. They are definitely a fun series that is worth reading all 7 books (so far). Can't wait for another one to come out. I enjoyed all the scenes with Jaimy this book. Even though Jaimy has always been love choice #1, I always thought they should spend more time together to make sure he was reconciled with her adventurous, wild ways. Well...more

Things I liked:

- Higgins warning Jacky about the pitfalls of marriage and motherhood. If ever there was someone ill-suited to getting married so young, it's Jacky.

- The fact that Jaimy is present throughout the book in close proximity to Jacky. They are able to dine together and spend a few "chaste" evenings together. Although the marriage was postponed in the beginning, I liked that Jacky wasn't too far from her throughout most of the book.

- I like...more

As usual, I enjoy Jacky Faber and all accompanying characters. Actually, the story in this particular book was a little weaker than others. It seemed more of an excuse to revisit many old and loved characters. I'm not complaining because I would take Lord Richard Allen over Jaimy any day, but I was reading more for characters than story in this one.

This was the first paper copy of Jacky Faber I have read, and I must say I really missed the audio version. I noticed a few weaknesse...more

Jacky and Jaime are finally in same place at the same time and going to get married (they've been chasing each other around for the previous 6 books in the series). On their wedding day, Jacky is taken from the bride's room and made to do another mission. Luckily Jaime will be on a boat right behind her, which is also nice for the reader since they get to read about him in this book a bit more than in previous ones.

Jacky is going on a mission to get the gold that went down with a sh...more

As the series progresses the plots continue to be as implausible as ever and yet I keep coming back for more! Jacky Faber is starting to remind me a bit of Veronica Mars... both girls are charming, witty, and magically know how to do anything and everything under the sun.

I listened to the audio version of this book and at the end of the novel was an interview with author by the narrator of the series. The interview was roughly 20 minutes and gave some interesting insights into the ...more

So very hard not to say anything...must not give away anything to friends who are already planning to read this...okay! L.A. Meyer keeps up his series without missing a beat. Everything fantastic is still there, and it only gets better. Someone really needs to make a movie out of these books, and then we would truly see some fantastic lady pirate hats finally make their way to us. This would better enable me or anyone to be Jacky Faber for Halloween, which I personally would totally have done at...more

Of course I loved this book. I love all the Bloody Jack books, because I love Jacky. I wanted to cry when it was over, not because it was sad ending, but because it made me depressed not to be able to live a fictional character's life anymore. I will say though its been a year and half since I've read any bloody jack books so I had a hard time getting into it because I couldn't remember all the random boys Jacky has come across in her series. But I loved it, I'm a diehard fan. In this book s...more

Jacky Faber is one of my all-time favorite characters and she has some amazing adventures, including this one. However, Rapture of the Deep did not seem to stand up as well as the previous tales. Mr. Meyer seemed at times to be reaching for something, anything to say, hauling out old characters for tiny bit parts of little or no consequence ... a lot of build up to the actual adventure. Of course, when the story finally got rolling it was quite enjoyable, but it was a long road getting there. W...more

I freakin' love Jacky Faber. Seriously i have been reading these books for as long as i can remember.
Rapture of the Deep is the 7th book in the series (7th!? can you believe that!? i can't!!) this one following Jacky after she was kidnapped by the British intelligance office on the very day she was to (finally) wed Officer James Fletcher (awwww i love Jaimy :]) To settle her debt with the king of England (for pirating in previous books) she's recruited to dive for Spanish gold off the coas...more

This one was kinda........eh. As I have said before, Jaimy is a disappointment. I had hoped that them being together would further his character developement, I was wrong. He's still as uninteresting as ever. I really liked Flaco's character. Now theres a guy that should be with Jacky! He's funny, interesting and a way more fun character than Jaimy. Maybe Jaimy should be gay....
I really hated what they did to Tilly's character. He was boring and not very involved in the book. If they had i...more

I think believe myself to be quite biased in my review of this book, for I have been ready this series since the very first Bloody Jack came to Barnes and Nobles. Being that as it may. . . I LOVE THIS BOOK!! I felt as if I was living this adventure along with Jacky and her crew from England to Boston and then to Florida with the Spaniards. I am not joking when I say I could not put this book down. It however leaves off with much hope for another book, as with the previous installments. I hope th...more

The story Rapture of the Deep by L.A. Meyer is one of the best books in the whole series. As Miss Jacky Faber and her true love Lieutenant James Fletcher are finally going to get married. As usual, Jacky Faber delivers, and Katherine Kellgren is the perfect narrator. Once again, I wish I could give half stars. This would be a solid 4.5. Not perfect, but so very close!

My only qualm with this book is the character of Aunt Jemima. I think that Meyer was trying to continue his motif of folklore and literary characters from other Bloody Jack adventures, particularly Belle of the Golden West. However, Jemima isn't really folklore or literary, and though I did enjoy her charac...more
