This first compilation of Wolff and Byrd, Attorneys for the Macabre, is amusing on multiple levels. Nothing fazes these legal eagles and woe betide the prosecutor who hasn't won a case against them. Whether it's a were-house or Dracula or zombies or Sodd, the Thing that is It. Wolff and Byrd are on the case. Lash's central concept is great. Wolff and Byrd are lawyers who specialize in the supernatural and their clients include Dracula, a tree monster, and a gangster haunted by the ghost of his enemy's flunky. The drawings have an appealing retro style, but the he's way too fond of bad puns and the despite contemporary references from when the strips first appeared in the early '90s, the whole thing feels a little too old-fashioned.
