I have the lucky priviledge to have read this manuscript before it was published. All I can say is that this will be a landmark LDS publication. It explains the Atonement in a way I have never thought of before and somehow makes it so much more real and accessable. This goes way beyond the bicycle anaolgy that we all grew up hearing and explains more deeply the meaning and purpose behind Christ's sacrifce. I love the hope and deep thought that this book provides. Next time you hear somebody

I don't often read doctrinal books unless they come from the leadership of the Church. Yet this book came to me highly recommended from a few key friends who said that it dealt with truths regarding the atonement. I was intrigued by these recommendations even though I only knew Brad Wilcox as an EFY speaker. I was duly impressed by the doctrine regarding continual repentance and how we come to obey the commandment "be ye therefore perfect."

This book has new ideas on an old topic. Brother Wilcox applies the atonement to our daily lives in a way that has not been presented to me before. It is an easy read and motivates me to be better.
One quote from the book:
Little children don't learn to walk in a day. Between the time a child is carried in a parent's arms and the great day when he is running on his own, there is a lot of hand holding, baby stepping, and falling. For a child learning to walk, falling dow More...

One of our missionaries came to get his “post” (mail, in the USA) and had a package from his grandmother. Turns out it was this book which he had received from someone else at an earlier date. He loaned it to us, otherwise, I wouldn’t have known of it and probably would not have sought it out. Everything has a purpose – I’m not sure what it is in this case, but I know that this book has caused me some deep thought. I will probably read it again when I get home and do some more thorough study

Oh, I'm being brave, by only giving this book three stars. Almost every review was a five star rating. I want you to know, I am not anti-Atonement at all! In fact I love the Atonement. But here's the deal; Let's start with the cover, I thought it was a skull, not a loaf of bread, shallow I know. Next, I didn't like how he would say the same thing over and over in three or four different ways. It almost felt like he was trying to extend an essay. Most of my favorite quotes were from other

This book's title says it all. It is an examination of the Atonement, but not just how the Atonement can save us at the end of our lives, but how it is our very real source for strength, solace, forgiveness and power each and every day, as we struggle along, mired in sins we repeat all too often. I know many others who, like me, have become discouraged at our apparent and obvious lack of perfection, even after years of trying to live the Gospel. The truths in this book are like a balm. I'm a

WOW! I'm only in chapter 4 and this book has me thinking about grace and works and the atonement in a whole new light. His thoughts and perspective are revolutionary. Stephen Robinson's parable of the bicycle is the milk and this is the meat. I'm in love with this one.
I really appreciated these thoughts. It's the perspective you keep when you want to change your old ways and find yourself right back there again and again. This is inspired thinking. I will teach it to my girls an More...

I did like this book. Would I recommend it? Yes, but not before I recommend Stephen Robinson's books: Believing Christ and Following Christ.
Why the 3 stars? I agree with other readers that at times it was slow and often repetitive. There were a few topics I was disappointed that he skirted the issue or didn't pay it the attention that I would have desired, but that is the author's choice.

I heard the author talk about much of the material in this book and I preferred his speaking to his writing. That said, I still found this to be an inspiring and useful book.

This is a great for understanding that we all need the atonement in our lives everyday, not just all those sinners out there:). I loved that it furthered my understanding that the atonement is continuous, that I continually need the Savior in my life and that his atonement helps me draw closer to him and helps me to overcome my many, many weaknesses. One of my favorite parts is when he describes the sacrament prayer saying that God requires us to be perfect, just as the sacrament prayer should b

Ironically, I picked this book up at the bookstore on a whim (rarely spend $20 for a book) & the next week my bishop recommended it. For those struggling to understand the concept of the atonement, or for those who understand it and are attempting to apply it to themselves, this book is amazing. I'm also always on the lookout for books written from an LDS perspective that deal empathetically with depression and mental illness, this book has a chapter specifically written on that topic. This book was so much more down to earth and understandable than the last book I read on the subject. It was a little slow and so that is why the 3 star rating. But he had some very cute and funny analogies. He likened sin with a hot stove. We are told not to touch the stove because it's hot. We are told not to sin because it will lead to anger and defiance and much more. Here are some excuses of touching a hot stove as are the most common excuses for sin:

I love this book and would recommend it to anyone, especially those who feel discouraged or past forgiveness. Wilcox's anecdotal writing style makes the subject manner easily relatable to the reader's own life, and his insight provides new perspectives on forgiveness, repentance, life's trials, and the Atonement. The book provides the reader with an optimistic outlook, despite the sins he or she may have committed, and shows them how Christ's Atonement is meant to be used for every sin, every

What a great book! Written in a similar style to a youth fireside, it was easy enough for me to follow without having to read each sentence three times, yet deep enough to really make me think. Brad Wilcox uses stories from his own life experience, as well as the scriptures and other sources to delve into the atonement. He answers some of those really tough questions we are all faced with at one point or another, such as why God lets bad things happen in the world.

I was a little sad when I finished this book. It was so uplifting and edifying that I would read a little bit of it every morning and then think about what I'd read during the day. This book is perfect for someone who is trying to understand why everyone is worthy of the Atonement, why justice and mercy are important, why Christ saves and redeems us. Wilcox shows why the Atonement should feel us with hope, not make us feel hopeless.

Wilcox's memorable insight regarding the continuous atonement is perhaps best captured in his analogy of a young Priest offering the sacrament prayers. They are among the few prayers that must be repeated perfectly, word by word. Yet what happens when the one offering the prayers doesn't get them right? The expectation of perfection cannot be lowered, but the one giving the prayers is given a second chance...and a third, fourth, or fifth, or however many times are needed. No matter how often he

23 pages of quotes copied on my journal. While it is not possible for me to choose among these quotes to share here, I have been strengthened and comforted through this book.

This is a book full of hope and joy.
It starts out by pointing out that just as a priest has to repeat the sacrament prayer until he gets it right, the Lord allows us to keep trying and failing and repenting until we get it right.
But it covers a lot more than that. I recommend it to anyone who has felt the Atonement in their lives, or who would like to understand more about how wonderful it is.

Where I had just finished "Jesus the Christ" I didn't think this book would meet my standards. It did! It is very worthwhile reading. He is becoming a great writer and I loved how he turns the Atonement into a life long journey and a life long process, not just something, you pray about and never think of again. Doug wants to add it to the personal Todd library. I think it is well done and he makes some great points, which I will put in, as soon as I get my book back.

I bought this book after hearing Brad Wilcox speak on this topic at our stake women's conference. All I can say is that hearing him in person was sooo much more meaningful and inspiring. I felt the book was kind of wordy in the first half and a little slow. At chapter 6 it started talking more on what I remember from his talk. In short, there is just something magic about his speaking skills that I'm not sure translate into his writings. I would love to have an audio tape of him speaki

Brad Wilcox explains that "Christ doesn't just make up the difference; he makes all the difference." He explains works and grace as I have never understood before. He helps his readers understand the LOVE that God and Jesus Christ have for each one of us and how it is their primary work to help us to grow and become more like them. It is a lifelong, even longer process. Repentence must be and is continuous; the Atonement never ends.

I heard Brad Wilcox speak at Time Out For Women a couple of weeks ago and then I remembered that I had purchased this book about a year ago and I had never read it. The Continuous Atonement is now one of my favorite church books. He explained concepts that I never really understood about the plan of salvation and Jesus Christ's role as our Savior and Redeemer. Brad Wilcox is a truly gifted teacher and I really enjoy listening to him speak and reading his books. I'd be happy to loan my copy of th

Bought it. Read it. Bought it for a bunch of other people. A really interesting book about how the Atonement of Jesus Christ affects us not just by allowing us to repent of sins and to empathize with all pains that we might experience but in many, many other ways. VERY UPLIFTING! You'll feel better about yourself and your potential by reading this book. It's an easy read and even though it's a more serious topic it was very enjoyable.

I read this book in one afternoon. It tells of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and how we can take part in the atonement if we repent and do everything in our lives to be as perfect as we can. Where we fall short, Jesus and the Atonement will take up the rest. It is a very interesting book to show us the love our Heavenly Father has for us by sending his son to suffer for all the sins of the world and to help us to be perfect.

What can I say about Brad Wilcox? The man is a EFY-loving, youth conference speakin' son of a gun. He was a great mission president and friend.
This book is actually really insightful and very down to earth. Instead of making you feel like there are so many things you can't possibly do right, it shows you that the gospel is very applicable to real life. He has a way of making things seem very down to earth. Love it!

A good analysis of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The author's central theme is that (as the title suggests) the fruits of the Atonement don't come to us at the end of our lives once we have "proven ourselves", but the Atonement is a continuous force (power) available to us as we make and keep covenants - accessing the Atonement enables us to grow into or become like God through its sanctifying power.

I think I give this book five stars based on one of the first lines. He says something to the effect that if you are reading this book, you are doing okay. He writes of when he was a mission president, the missionaries who heard his words and tried to improve were already in a good place. I know I need to be more aware of the atonement on a daily basis. I liked on part where a missionary spoke with him about past things he had repented of coming back to him. How Wilcox interpreted that as t

This is a wonderful, well written book. I have personally felt the effects of the Atonement in my own life, and this book brought back many of those tender memories. Some of these memories I need to feel again. I come away from the reading with a renewed commitment to remember the love of our Father and his Son -- to forgive myself more often, to try a little harder, and to reach out to my Savior for his help and support far more often than I do. I highly recommend it. I plan on reading it again

Absolutely wonderful book. Provided me with so much insight and understanding as to the purpose of the atonement and what it means for me in my life. It also made me feel at peace with my day to day struggles and helped me grow closer to my Father in Heaven. This life is a process; God knew we'd slip up sometimes and loved us enough to send his Son to atone for our sins. I would highly recommend it.
