THIS IS JANE

A little subdued. A little stubborn. A little tired of going out on blind dates with men who drive vans with sofas in the back, Jane Alcott is living the Single Girl existence in the big city. She is also leading a double life. By day, she's a reporter covering the raucous Seattle Chinooks hockey team—especially their notorious goalie Luc Martineau. By night, s...more

I absolutely loved this book! Why? First, it's a sports romance (my favorite). Second, the snappy writing. Funny, super sexy, with plenty of sharp, witty dialogue and plenty of sparring between the H/h, superstar hockey goalie Luc Martineau and the reporter assigned to cover his team, "natural" girl Jane Alcott. Fantastic sexual tension in this one. And third (and most important), the characters. Unlike the first book in this series (Simply Irresistible) I had no issues with the hero and heroine...more

Absolutely wonderful! Bad-boy hockey player falls for "plain Jane" journalist (4.5 stars)

When I first read See Jane Score, I thought it was absolutely amazing and would have given it way more than five stars if I could have. I first read it from the library and immediately got it online afterwards, since I knew this would be a (multiple) future reread for me. I have already reread it once so far and although the second time, my rating went down to 4.5 stars, it is still definitely one of my favo...more

I'd say this is more like a 3+ story that I'm tempted to bump up to a 3.5/4 for the delicious tension and chemistry between the main characters. There were definitely some laugh out loud moments, and I liked the book, humor, and storytelling as a whole. The climax/misunderstanding was a little overblown and exaggerated in my opinion, but the epilogue was pitch perfect for me and left me with a smile on my face. Unfortunately, however, sloppy editing (e.g., "prefect" when it was supposed to say "...more

At first I couldn't believe that I would possibly enjoy any Chinook book if it didn't have The Wall, Lexie and Georgie present but boy did Gibson prove me wrong. If it is at all possible I may have enjoyed See Jane Score just as much as I enjoyed Simply Irresistible. Knowing that Gibson does not fall within my normal genre of choice ... I have to say that I am so glad my friends recommended this series! I guess I should have known that I would LOVE this series because I love hockey to begin with...more

Luc was the epitome of hotness. The mysterious bad boy who everyone wants a piece of. Jane was, well, a Jane. As simple as a girl can be. Yet under her facade of plainness, an enticing character is lurking. Luc made that character emerge. See Jane Score was interesting. However, I see it as a bit anti-climatic. Ending was lacking. I did not feel that sense of exhilarating lightheartedness every time I finish a rom-com novel.

high 2s -- sort of silly, sort of fun, mostly forgettable.

the plot setup -- sports reporter falls for the guy she's reporting on -- is fun and often handled in a humorous, engaging way. but gibson is sort of ham-handed with detail that could have used nuance, so this book becomes ultimately harmless but nothing special.

i will say that maybe a year ago i bought the first book in this series -- simply irresistible -- and hadn't realized the two were related until i was well into see jane score. i...more

WOW!! I absolutely loved this book. It just seemed to be perfect for me. Being a former hockey player myself probably made me love it as much as i did. It seemed very authentic to me and you can tell the author put some effort into gathering information about the game rather than just making up her own version just to be able to use the hockey theme. I was very impressed by this. Didn't expect that at all. Also didn't think hockey would play that much of a role in the storyline.

But even apart f...more

My third read on Chinooks series and if I must say, I don't read it in order. I have another three to go and I see if I'm up to read them soon - reviews on those three other books are pretty much scary, truth to be told. For I not wish to read good okay stories, I want to read great awesome stories.

The book was easy, interesting, and intriguing. To be honest, I grabbed this one because the title reminds me of book I've read a couple years back, See Jane Date by Melissa Senate. Well, the two have...more

I like this series, and I like this story. However as I'm beginning to read through them I'm noticing a huge weakness in Gibson's writing and it contributes to her stories feeling seriously lacking in some ways. I saw it in the first one and here too. There is no transition of the guy's feelings, in this case Luc's. One second he sees Jane as a nobody, the next he's thinking about getting her naked. How does that happen? Why did that happen? We have no idea. Furthermore, Gibson then goes back la...more

This was kinda 'blah' for me.

I finished this book last night and while I remember most of what happened, nothing positive sticks out.

I didn't like the way Jane treated herself. Her low self-esteem was bad enough, but to then be in denial about it is just shitty icing on a crap cake.
I didn't like how the team treated Jane.
I didn't like the way Luc treated Jane.
I didn't like the way Luc treated Marie.
I didn't like how Jane wouldn't take any chances with Caroline.

Rachel Gibson is one of my favorite author in this genre. In See Jane Score she actually deliver her charm and wit which makes her books unique.

But i gave it 3 stars because somehow i don't enjoy it as much as i want to.

The story is about Jane Alcott, a natural woman who knows that she is plain and don't even try it. Jane is leading a double life, writing Single Girl by day (kind of like SJP in Sex and the City) and writing porn Honey Pie by night. One day Jane was appointed to write sport sec...more

A second helping of hockey players, I was pretty excited to dive into the second book in this series. I was a little sad to see the first two hockey players we got to meet in the first to be retired and completely out of the picture. But at the same time, it makes the story more believable since all the hockey players aren't getting their own girls too quickly to make it cheesy or eye roll worthy.

Since a bit of time has lapsed, we get to meet a new hunky goalie. I really liked Luc and Jane. Jane...more

I think this book is Rachel Gibson's triumph (its rated the highest in most review sections).

I'm not particularly surprised as the characters are actually quite interesting, the writing style is reasonable, the plot engrossing and the chemistry explosive.

Jane is the archetypal female protagonist we all want to see “succeed” and her success leaves a warm feeling. Jane (unlike many of Gibson's female character's) is intelligent, sassy, has a backbone, and reasonably witty.
The male protagonist is...more

3.5 stars. A good, solid, pleasant sports romance. Reporter feels she is not attractive enough for a hockey star.

STORY BRIEF:
Jane is a feature writer for the Seattle Times and is known for her monthly “Single Girl in the City” column. She also secretly writes pornographic short stories for “Him” magazine called “The Life of Honey Pie.” When a sports reporter takes medical leave, Jane is assigned to cover the Seattle Chinooks hockey team for a few months, which means traveling with the team and a...more

Rachel Gibson writes the cutest stories and See Jane Score has just been added to the list. Luc, professional hockey goaley is her typical "jerk" at the beginning of the book, but by meeting the heroine Jane, he quickly changes into a more sensitive loving guy. Jane is a true original who wears total black because she has no fashion sense, has no chest (think AA) to speak of and writes a secret column called Honey Pie who puts men into comas through her sexual antics. Jane would love to be Honey...more

it's been a while since i let myself be amazed into the world of chick lit. all this time i've been occupy my mind with fiction, young adult, classic, then i realised i need a light reading, one can makes me giggle, one can take my mind off from my hectic life just for a moment.

i'm gonna say that i'm not that impressed with this book, nor that i despised it. it was ok for me.

Set in the rough and touch world of professional hockey, Jane Alcott is given a shot at a full-time assignment for a sports reporter traveling with the Seattle Chinooks hockey team and she knows nothing about the game. To top it off, the team doesn't want her there. The team stalls when she tries to interview them and gives her one word answers. They haze her mercilessly, by calling her room non stop on the away games. It isn't until the superstitious Luc Martineau decides that she brings good l...more

Ahh now this is a book for a true Hockey Fan :) Lots of action on the ice in this book :)

Loved it! We start off with Jane working on her newest article for Him Magazine - The life of Honey Pie - lol She's a total nympho But Honey Pie is not the same person as Jane - Jane is in fact the opposite of Honey Pie. She doesn't have her curves, she is too shy, and plain compared to Honey, That's why Honey Pie is her secret fantasy. And she writes it in secret.

When Jane gets a phone call from her boss,...more

Being sucked into that literary vortex of all things dramatic, melancholy and depressing for quite some time now, I needed to put aside the Virgin Riverites and Regency rakes & rogues and read something uplifting. She picks! She scores! lol I LOVED this book! The hero is Luc Martineau, a Canadian hottie who plays professional hockey for the Seattle Chinooks. He is drop-dead gorgeous with a lean, athletic body and a killer tattoo that begins at the base of his hoohaa and peeks out from the to...more

So...on the good side, Rachel Gibson can write some reasonably compelling characters, so I didn't hate this book quite as much as the 1st Chinooks Hockey Team series book which was overall just a complete stinker for me.

On the bad side, Seattle has a lot of water, but we do not have a "bay" - totally annoying. And Rachel continues to prove that her knowledge of hockey is 2nd only possibly to a slug...and there are lots of slugs in the PNW, so they probably know more about hockey than Rachel, OMG...more

This book was entertaining, enjoyable and sometimes funny.
It was interesting to watch, to develop relationship with Jane and Luc. Both of them are focused on careers, but also Luc was still his orphanage sister, Jane is afraid of contact.
I'm not a big hockey fan, but it was exciting to see a little into the world of gamers.
When they lost, was a scapegoat, they were very superstitious. Jane is the first time was a curse, as a woman and a journalist, it was thought bad luck to them. I was very di...more

See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson was a frustrating book, especially for a Canadian (and Edmontonian no less!) like me. I don't think the author has ever actually met a Canadian in her life. She seems to think that we all say "aboot" and "eh". I was impressed that she didn't have us living in igloos with polar bears too!

Aside from the frustrating ignorance regarding Canadians and the game of hockey, the book was only okay. It seems to me that in Rachel Gibson's books, the heroes only undergo chan...more

I've had this book in my TBR for quite some time. I bought it after I'd read a couple of Ms. Gibson's books and loved them. Then I didn't read it because the hero is a hockey player. I know nothing about hockey except that they use a puck instead of a ball. I didn't even realize they had American hockey teams - I thought it was a Canadian sport. But, I was in the mood for something different so I picked it up off the pile, dusted it off, and started reading...I loved it!

Thank goodness I know better books by Gibson! *smiles*

Main plot is sexy ice hockey player with the Seattle Chinooks, Luc Martinau, a man with a wild past meets female reporter, Jane Alcott, who is eager to suceed with her new assignment as a sports reporter traveling with the Chinooks.

I honestly am disappointed. The story was predictable, though many would argue they always are in a romance, but the certain "oompf" that I liked in "Daisy's back in town" is missing. The constant "inner thoughts"...more

You see, I have a thing with jocks. So this book is just perfect for me.

Jane, the lead female character is neither pretty nor sexy. She's got an A-cup breast, she wears lesbian glasses (according to Luc and his teammates), she's got no fashion sense and always dresses in drab.

Luc, meanwhile, is THE man most women dream about. He's bad, he's tough, he's smoking hot. But behind that toughness, Luc is just a normal guy with insecurities of his own. He's got that soft spot. Now, this kind of guy, I...more

Rachel was born in Boise, Idaho, USA. Her father worked for a telephone company, and her mother was a house wife. Idaho has the largest population of Basques outside of the Basque lands of Spain. She grew up with kids with last names like Uberuaga, Berriochoa, and Egisquiza, but years later she discovered the rest of the country didn't really know much about the Basque culture or history.
