The many paintings by Claude Monet featuring that Japanese footbridge with the water lilies from his own garden, are iconic images of impressionist art. What I did not realise before reading this book was the very many times Claude sat and painted the same scene, often with many canvasses on the go at once. You can never get enough Monet, viewing his work anywhere in the world is confirmation that life is worth living. That one man could make his life a work of art is proved by reading this book. So many fascinating facts about him, his extended family and the artist community. Every page was a revelation, even if you thought you knew everything there is to know about this dedicated man, Mancoff shared more.
