This is an invaluable history of organized crime in San Francisco's Chinatown. This is a GREAT book. GREAT. I absolutely loved it. However, I had a couple of important gripes about it.

First, the author was a SF cop for 26 years; this gives him an insider's perspective from the police side, but it's very much true to the title. It's about the "Chinatown Squad," the SF Police squad assigned to police "vice" in Chinatown -- not the experience of the Chinese at all. Therefore, it's at once an insid...more
