Read in July, 2009 — I own a copy
Oh my! This is the best book that I have read in a while with no exaggeration. In a way it is Persuasion with some Pride and Prejudice as well as a bit of Sense and Sensibility put within. Action, adventure, intrigue, romance, rescue, and true love, edge of the seat, page turning, not able to read fast enough thrills throughout. This novel has all of the great qualities of a fabulous read and reminds me of other stories I have read and lov More...

I chose this book for bookclub while having only read half of the book because I was confident of how good it would be since I devoured the first 50 pages in less than 2 hours. I was immediately drawn in to the wonderful characters of Julia Witherington and Captain William Ransome. The supporting characters are equally engaging, especially, Julia's best friend. I found myself rooting for Julia and William. I liked the setting of Regency England and the author is great at descriptions of the tow

I thought this was a cute story. I could see where the other tried to emulate Jane Austen and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It is mostly a Persuasion type story in it's narrative. Perhaps not as sweet as Persuasion. For starters I have a hard time believing that this young woman with a 30,000 pound dowry would still be unmarried at 29. Doesn't wash for me, I don't care if she lived in Jamaica or not. She is strong willed where as Anne in Persuasion wilts after she turns dow

Wow! Ransome's Honor by Kaye Dacus is a winner. From first page to last, I was swept into the world of Regency England, brought to life through her vivid descriptions. I could visualize the bustling town of Portsmouth, smell the salty sea air and hear the lap of waves against the hulls of the Royal Navy's magnificent sailing ships.
Amidst the spectacular setting, we encounter a wonderful cast of characters. I liked both Captain William Ransome, the epitome of a distinguished naval off More...

I just finished reading this book, and I loved it! I suppose it shouldn't surprise me since I loved her other two books. This one being historical rather than contemporary, I was just interested to see how her style of writing would translate over. I am happy to say that I loved this book as much or perhaps a bit more than her contemporary ones and am eagerly anticipating the next two books in the series especially as she was so kind as to include the synopsis of each in the end of this boo

Summary
A young woman struggles with scheming relatives, a stubborn lover and a scandalous, arranged marriage in Regency-era London.
Pros
The story is well-written, albeit it is a bit predictable in some ways. I like how the author captured the Regency-era beautifully, with the descriptions of elaborate dresses and details of the sumptuous parties held in London. The examples of past society are present in the story, such as that, women must marry before the age More...

What a darling book, I was unsure at fist if i like it but after, found i had really enjoyed it. It had me on the edge of my seat towards the end/middle of the book.

I've read one other book by Kaye Dacus & loved it, so was excited to get this book from a dear friend to read. This one did not disappoint either! I loved it just as much as the other one I had read. It's a riveting Christian historical that draws you in, grips your heart, and has you laughing, praying, and maybe a little crying mixed in.

RANSOME’S HONOR is the first in the Ransome trilogy by Kaye Dacus. At the onset, we watch as Julia Witherington anxiously awaits a proposal from William Ransome, a prodigy of her father, Admiral Sir Edward Witherington. When her dreams are dashed, she vows never to forgive William. She leaves England for her family’s sugar plantation in Jamaica. It becomes her home and the love of her life.

More like 2.5 stars actually.
There were a few things that really bothered me while I was reading this story. The first was that the characters feelings seemed to vacillate quite often. One minute they would make a decision about how they felt, then on the next page they would feel a completely different way again. That made it difficult for me as a reader to really understand (and like) them, because they kept changing their minds every five seconds. Also, another aspect of this story More...

It's no secret that I love historical fiction. I'd been eagerly awaiting my copy of Ransome's Honor by Kaye Dacus. My wait and expectations were rewarded. Ransome's Honor is a wonderful story about love, pride and forgiveness, and I can honestly say it's one of the best Christian romance books I have read in a long time.
At age seventeen Julia Witherington expects William Ransome to propose to her, but the fateful night ends up being anything but romantic. Twelve years later, Will More...

This was a fun, quick read, and I even stayed up late reading it. I particularly enjoyed all of the social maneuvering - those sorts of things are always a treat.
However, I did have a couple of major issues. Some of the plot elements called for a lot more suspension of disbelief than I was willing to give - they just seemed a little too out there to be believable. There were also a couple of instances where I felt like Julia's character was a little inconsistent - certain things (that More...

Loosely based on the Jane Austen novel "Persuasion", Julia is near 30 and still loves the man she knew as a child, William. He decided that he didn't want to marry Julia years ago, because he didn't have a good income. Feeling jilted, Julia vowed to never forgive him for deciding not to marry her. But years later, he returns from war as Captain and wealthy. Can she let the past go? Can they still be in love with one another?

Fabulous! This was a wonderful story about a part of regency England that I am not all too familiar with - The Royal Navy and the honorable (and not so honorable) men that sail the ocean. This was a book that I couldn't put down. It is a credit to the author that I stayed up way past my bedtime to make sure that the ending was happy (as if it could be anything else!) I loved Captain Ransome and Julia's story. This story reminded me a lot of Persuasion by Jane Austen. Although no one can come

What a fun read. It was a great period fic. Lots of gloves and manners and protocol. It was nearly twenty chapters before there was even a chaste kiss and it was perfect. I really enjoyed all of the characters. I wish we had seen more of William during the beginning of the book, but overall he was a good male protag.
I think Dacus does the era a great justice, keeping historically accurate with the women's rights at that time as well as the culture of post-war England.

Wow. What can I say but UGH.
When I started reading this book, I was unaware it was Christian Fiction. It was rather light weight – the preaching, that is – and I was enjoying it. At first.
The writing is good and the plot line is pretty basic. What made this story turn from (as my husband likes to say) “the shit” to “some shit” is a lack of common sense and characters doing things out of their character.
That sounded strange, let me explain:

The publisher says this series has "...the wit, romance, and social commentary of Jane Austen..." and it really does! If you are a fan of Persuasion you will definitely love this book! I'm sorry that it took me almost a year to read it. I really wish I would have read it sooner since it is soooo good, but that means I have less time to wait till I read the next book, Ransome's Crossing which releases in June!

I really enjoyed reading Ransome's Honor. The title fit the story perfectly. It was like a blend of Marylu Tyndall's pirate stories as well as Linore Rose Burkhard's novels. I've never read Jane Austen (oh the shame...) but I hear it has a similar feel to it. Ransome's Honor was filled with culture and details about the mid 1800s that gave it an authentic feel. Plus the use of language from that day in age made it seem like I was part of the era as I read along. I found William to be quite the g

She's done it again! Love, love, love Kaye Dacus. She's my new favorite author. Most definitley a Jane Austen type read. If you liked Lori Wick's Kensington Chronicles, then you will love this one. The Royal Naval command is a running theme that will be carried out throughout the next two books to come in this series. So glad she is going to bring back her characters. She makes them so likeable and you just root for the reunion of two lovers who should've made a union in the first place when the

A charming, easy read. Light Christian with no preaching. A predictable, but sweet story about love and friendship. I enjoyed that the perspective was the from those in the Royal Navy, not from the pillars of society. The villains are annoying, and I found myself frustrated that Julia allowed herself to be taken in by them as much as she did. But, she finds her backbone and true love conquers all. I loved that Julia was an older heroine. At 29, she was considered an old maid, but she was a stron

Another good Christian romance. This one wasn't too Christian - in fact, I really liked it in the first half. It bugs me when the characters silent prayers are written out in italics, and the first half of this just said, "she prayed". Halfway through, that changed, but by then I was more interested in the plot. This is a series which sounds promising, if I can get it from the library and don't have to pay.

When Julia doesn't receive the proposal for marriage she expects from William Ransome, she determines never to forgive him. Twelve years later, when unscrupulous relatives try to gain her ing heritance, she turns to the only eligible man to whom her fatherwill not object, his most trusted captain and the man who broke her heart. Great story. Clean, and great for teens.

Julia Witherington, the Admiral's daughter, is plagued by dastardly relatives after her fortune. In desperation, she turns to the man who broke her heart, Captain Ransome. Will he accept her proposal?
The author does an excellent job integrating research details into the story, set in Portsmouth, England, 1802. Highly recommended for fans of historical romance.

A Christian romance, but without being overly Christian. Historical, which I appreciate. What I love about books like this is how they pique my interest in other topics, like life as a navy officer's wife, Jamaica in the early 1800's, and what the heck the poop deck really is. :)
An enjoyable read. Fully intend on reading the rest of the trilogy.

Nice Regency historical romance. I am not sure if it falls under "Christian" literature genre or not, but there were nice religious elements in the story. What I liked most about the story are the insights (hopefully, historically accurate) into the concerns and community of the Royal Navy at that time.
