I love finding new authors to add to my towering TBR/WL, and Tessa Dare is my latest addition. Goddess of the Hunt is her debut book, and what an excellent book it was!
Lucy Waltham has been in love with Sir Toby Aldridge, one of her older brother Henry's friends, since she was eleven years old - ah, what a precocious child she was! - but he's about to propose to another woman and she must take action before it's too late. So she sets a plan to seduce him and show him that she's the right woman f...more

The first half or so of this book is absolutely great. A very cute love story about a group of friends who gather every summer at once place and have some fun. Most of these friends have gotten married or had children recently though and only a few remain single. One of those is Lucy. Lucy is the sister of Henry. Henry is friends with Felix, Jeremy, and Toby. Lucy is in love with Toby, however he's brought a young lady with him to their retreat that everyone thinks he'll propose too. This simply...more
5 Stars...I LOVED it...
Who in the world is Tessa Dare and where has she been all my life?!
"Goddess of The Hunt" had me hooked from page one. I cringed every time I knew I had to put this one down, and I hated the fact that my eyes betrayed me at night when I'd fall asleep trying to read it. I don't see a "Best-Seller" on the cover yet, but I promise if this lady keeps writing books like this she's going to be the next Julia Quinn (the old, not the new one).

This is the second time I read Goddess Of The Hunt, because I want to finish the trilogy and I barely remembered the characters and what happened to them.
And let me tell you, I don't know what could have possessed me to give this book 5 stars the first time.
I found the whole story boring and I couldn't bring myself to like any of the characters, apart from Jeremy himself and Sophia Hathaway.

4 ½ stars. If you looked up the word “minx” in the dictionary I’m sure there would be a picture of Lucy Waltham next to it. Sure, a lot of authors

their heroine is a minx, but Tessa Dare

us she is; it’s delightful. Such a charming read, it kept me up most of the night.Lucy has been the bane of Jeremy Trescott’s existence since childhood. It was a good story, if one doesn't mind some pointless drama.
Nineteen years old, Lucy Waltham, is not what one would call a conventional young lady...
Having been brought up by her older brother Henry, she has grown accustomed to a certain hoyden behaviour. Behaviour which she displays in full force in her house and especially when dealing with her brother's friends.
For eight years now, during the Autumn, the Waltham Manor receives Henry's friends for a shooting/fishing, you name it, party.

This was a good book for a long bustrip, I sat there and smiled and must have looked like a fool sometimes.
Lucy wants to get married and she has her sights on a certain person but how to get there when she is such a tomboy who hasn't even had her first season? So she gets this silly idea that she should practice her seduction skills on her brother's friend Jeremy. What a crazy idea, and I was so glad to see that Jeremy was a gentleman who tried to resist.

I usually don't like the "falling for a best friend's sibling" plot but I unexpectedly enjoyed this one a lot. Low expectations..it never hurts going into a book with them. It was fun to read all the sparring between Lucy and Jeremy. They had undenible chemistry. They made me smile with glee many times during their "courtship."

This book should come with a disclaimer. There was a disturbing lack of dairymaids for a book in “The Wanton Dairymaid Trilogy.” Not a one was to be found. I really, really liked the first half of the book. I really, really didn’t like the second half. So, I’m not sure if I’ll continue on with the series or not.

I read this to pass the time between after office hour and time to sleep. So I'm lucky that this book is so readable that I can finish it within the few paltry hours (or I have to forgo sleep just to finish it)
'Goddess of the Hunt' has been around for a while and I never really think that I would read it. It is not in my 'to-read' shelf whether in goodreads or in my mind. So when I picked it up I don't really have any expectation at all.

The storyline is familiar to anyone who reads romance or enjoys the occasional romantic movie, but the writing brought the book a level above what you'd expect. The voice is fresh and fun, at once lively and with an attention to detail.
I really enjoyed Lucy, with her grandiose ideas and utter lack of subtlety. Everyone around her (except for her brother, who makes for a loving but neglectful guardian, someone who just has no idea how to care for his younger sister) is completely aware of what sh...more

This booked started out so promising and then took a nosedive at about the 50% percent mark.
It's a character driven book. No villains, mysteries, murders or mad-cap antics. The heroine, Lucy, is young and a bit immature but I like that she's a tomboy and holds her own among the men. The hero is haunted by a tragic incident in his past that is supposed to have left him cold and distant. Lucy worms her way into his heart and he finds himself inexplicably drawn toward her and wants to protect her....more

Lucy Waltham has been in love with Sir Tobias Aldridge ever since he mistook her for a pheasant and shot at her (he missed) and bowed his apology. Lucy has known Tobias, ‘Toby’, and her brother Henry’s other two friends, Felix and Jeremy, ever since she was 12 and they started journeying to Waltham Manor once a year for holidaying. But things have been changing of late. Henry married Marianne five years ago and now has three children. Felix married Kitty Hathaway, and for this years holiday Kitt...more
This book was actually recommended by my local library. Although well written, it had the typical cliches of most historical romances (which is why I had stopped reading them.) The 20 year old virgin and the 30 year old rake -- what's new!
I gave this book such a high rating because the quality of writing was very good, Dare just needs to be more inventive in her storylines. I read the next book in the series (Surrender of a Siren) and she had the same problem -- well written, but a storyline th...more

This book didn’t live up to all the hype buzzing around it for me. It’s alright but more of the ho-hum average kind of book than something great and wow that a lot of readers say it is.
It starts out fun enough with the heroine deciding to take matters into her own hands and get herself a husband she wants being that she’s 20 and her brother hasn’t done anything for her because he’s been busy with his own new family. Lucy sets her sights on Toby, a family friend, who she’s loved forever. Toby is...more

Since she was a child, Fall has always meant Lucy's brother Henry and his friends, Felix, Toby, and Jeremy. Now Lucy is 19, Henry and Felix are married, and Toby is almost engaged. But Lucy wants Toby to marry her, not Ms. Hathaway. She plans to seduce him, but is not experienced, and she needs to practice....on Jeremy. She thinks he is so aloof and stoic that if she can get a reaction from him than surely it will work on Toby.

I'm going to echo a common refrain on this book. The first half was really wonderful - Lucy and Jeremy were both well drawn and fun characters and I believed in their romance. I enjoyed the supporting characters, especially Toby's fiance and Lucy's absent minded brother Henry. It was a fun little comedy of manners... right up until the point when the hero and heroine get married.

Not the most elegant of metaphors, but if this is Ms Dare's debut novel, she has hit the ground running.
Almost everything about the book deserves an A+ ranking: the characters, the narrative, the descriptions, the concept.
The sincerity, enthusiasm and joie de vivre of Lucy, the main character, are infectious. Her personality bubbles and fizzes like fine champagne and is almost as intoxicating.

Dang! Why aren't there more stars?
This book hit me right where I wanted it to right when I needed it. Funny, heart-wrenching, and incredibly romantic, I had a very hard time getting this story out of my head when I had to put it down to go do those tedious things that other humans expect of me.

The first half of the book would have been a good 4 stars. Jeremy and Lucy were both introduces as great characters and I really liked the whole set up of their relationship.
But the second half of the book really put a damper on the whole for me.
- One stupid misunderstanding after the next... it got to the point were it got almost ridicoulous
- Jeremy got so overprotective and commanding, that there was almost no bearing it... really Ladies, what is attractive in a hero who tries to rule over his...more

I didn`t quite believe this book fall into a 4.0STARS for me. The storyline wasn`t the best, though it could have been if certain aspects or points were given more attention to or less attention to. Despite that, Tessa Dare is a great writer. I have nothing against her writing. Her writing is beautiful and I love it. But, this storyline just didn`t do it for me as much as I have wished it had. This historical romance is mostly good, but not great. Dare shows a lot of promise. The characters are well-drawn, in spite of being somewhat cliched. The heroine, Lucy, is a young tomboy, and the hero, Jeremy, an older friend of her brother's who suddenly sees her as the woman she has become. The first half of the book, in spite of the familiar premise, is pretty good. The relationship develops realistically, and the two main characters are both likable, and the sexuality is pretty steamy. The...more

Uggh. I really had high hopes for this one. It started so good, but it turned out to be a major disappointment. As much as I tried, i unfortunately couldn't connect with the characters. Lucy and Jeremy started out so good, both were very engaging at the beginning but as the story progressed.. well.. it just went downhill from there. This book was really a bummer for me, since i started out really liking the hero and heroine.

This story had all the elements for greatness, but somehow none of it came together. You had your stoic dark rakish hero, the tomboyish heroine, a love triangle, sexy scenes, and all the comical/dramatic situations one could ask for, but....the writing just didn't hold up. The weird thing is, when I go back and read any sentence or paragraph from the book at random, they aren't BADLY written. The author obviously knows her grammar and English but it comes off as being contrived and cliche and th...more
this was an intense read - on the one hand very funny, on the other heart-wrenching. I was a little bit shocked about the beginning because it doesn't give you time to get to know the characters.
it is interesting to see how the characters develop, especially Lucy who is more than a little bit selfish and childish at the beginning. but I really liked her in the end.

I am probably the last historic romance lover to read this book. I remember it received many glowing reviews when it first appeared. It was sitting on my TBR pile for a long time so I figured it was time to read.

I thought this was funny and well-written. I liked Lucy and I liked Jeremy. I thought they were a good match and had good chemistry. I also thought, however, it was a tiny bit lazy. There was a lot of buildup about Jeremy being so cold etc., but we never really saw that and we never really saw WHY. The back cover talks about a past full of secrets, but I didn't really find that the man had ANY secrets. I don't have a problem with that at all, but the blurb (which isn't the author's fault) had me...more
