I bought the book on St Patrick's Day - thought I would learn more of Irish history and my heritage - since I have enjoyed Guinness Stout for years, the book was an easy choice. One interesting discovery was in learning of the philanthropy of the Guinness family through the years. Another, equally rewarding section was reading about their Chief Medical Officer, Dr John Lumsden. He put forth wide-ranging ideas on social reform for the Guinness workers. Wrote by a multigenerational employee at Guinness Breweries, Gives a blow by blow run down from pre Guinness Breweries of Guinness Family through present day. The primary focus seems to be on the efforts Guinness has made to improve the communities and improve social services through present day. A good read.
