This is the third book in this series, and although I don't think that it was as good as the first two, it was still pretty good. I like that these series always ends off on a point that leaves you hanging and wanting to read the next book. They give away a little to make you interested, but they don't tell you everything right away. Another thing that I really like about this book is that there is always something that the main character has to fix, or something she has learned about themselves...more

Girls that Growl by Mari Mancusi is the third book in the Blood Coven Vampire series. This book again follows Rayne the Vampire Slayer as she is forced to infiltrate the cheerleading squad to find out why their football player boyfriends have gone missing. Rayne makes the cheerleading squad and find that the cheerleaders have been turned into werewolves. Through all of this Rayne's relationship with Jareth is on rocky ground and her life is slowly spinning out of control.

The good thing is that Rayne and Jareth can stay in the sun. The bad news is, they are pretty much the weakest vampires out there, physically.

Now back in school, Rayne thinks she doesn't have any problems to worry about. That is, until Slayer, Inc. decides to give Rayne another mission.

Turns out that the star football player at Rayne's school, Mike Stevens, is missing, and the cheerleaders are the suspects, since it seems like they aren't just regular cheerleaders, since regular cheerleaders aren't usually werewolves, too. So now Slayer, Inc. wants Rayne to be a little less goth and a bit more preppy, and to try out for the cheerleading squad, which would makes this the worst mission EVER! Of course Rayne can't deny the mission, since she still has the nanovirus which Slayer, Inc. injected into her bloodstream, and if it were released, the tiny wood inside the virus would go straight to her heart. And Jareth, who is now able to stay in the sun, begins to spend more time at the beach, trying to go from pale to super tan.

Rayne was a character I found easier to like. In the last book, I found her underdeveloped and unlikable, but in Girls That Growl she branched out a bit more, and in doing so, became a character I could like to some extent. I still am not crazy about Rayne, and I think her immaturity has a lot of the reason behind that. Jareth was a character that you really get to know in Girls That Growl, and I found to really like him. Before now, I just got the idea that he was the hot, brooding guy, but this book really lets you get to know his character and what makes him tick.

SPOILER: ranye and jareth's relationship turns on a road that leads it down, and jareth is planning on "divorcing" with ranye. will their relationship last?!?! (At the end jereth and ranye make up and are back together)..(less)

The narrator talks like she’s walking thru the mall with her best friend, which I find annoying at times. We’re all different, though, and this may be what makes you really like this book.
While the plot was decent and kept me entertained, it wasn’t my favorite read. It’s a short book, so you can probably get thru this in a few hours. I found it somewhat interesting that the author seemed to be sending good messages throughout the book, but then at one point Rayne start smoking, claiming she wanted to look like a “sexy, bad girl”. I don’t think that is a good message! At some points, it even seems like a vampire/werewolf after school special. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing.
There was also a character that has a cutting problem. Once again, the author seemed to be trying to address this in a helpful way(as far as anyone reading the book with that problem). I respect that, because it is a disease I think is overlooked many times. It’s not addressed as much as other teen issues. At the same time, it seemed thrown in there completely off the wall, and didn’t fit in with the rest of the book.
It’s possible I would have liked this book more if I had read the first two. I’m sure I would have connected with the characters a lot more. From what I could tell, though, this book fills you in on the major “happenings” of the first two, so you’re not completely lost as to what is going on.
I really like this section(minus the cuss word!), because this is true with a lot of relationships. It made me really think about how I act. I hope this doesn’t give anything away.
Somebody is about to break up with another person, and then this conversation begins:
““Maybe it’s because when I’m nice to you, you’re a total ***** back to me. When I worry about you, you accuse me of smothering you. When I’m happy and having fun you get annoyed. You’re only sweet to me when you want something or it suits your mood.” I stare at my feet, wanting to protest, wanting to defend myself, but having no idea how to do it. Because , I realize, every last thing he said is true. Why would he want me as a blood mate? I don’t think I’d want myself.”
This was sort of a wake up call for me.
Overall, I didn’t think this book was a waste of time and it was interesting with a slightly different take on vampires, but I think it would have been better if it was longer, and the scenes didn’t end so quickly. It leaves an opening for the next book.

The Blood Coven- Series is one I enjoyed right from the beginning. The idea of Goth-girl Rayne and how she wants to become a vampire was really interesting but nothing that really stood out of the crowd of vampire-books. And that crowd is big these days.
The Protagonists of this books, Rayne and Sunny McDonald are of course lovely. I mean, the names? Just cute.

When Rayne finally has the chance to become a vampire, things start to go down. The Bloodmate she shall have, the hot Vampireleader Magnus, mistakes Sunny for her and bites the twin instead. But Sunny doesn’t want to be a vampire. So she and Magnus set out to find the only cure to that curse: The holy grail.
Then, in book two Raynes Teacher tells her, that he is part of a secret agency and it is his job to kill evil vampires. Enough reason for trouble? Well, it actually gets better: In every generation there is one girl, which is destined to be the Slayer. (Kinda reminds me of Buffy :) ) And ironically this time it’s Raynes turn. So she sets out to defeat evil Vampires, Magnus General, the (of course) hot Jareth on her side.
So things down in the blood coven world got really amazing and it was really hard for me to imagine how Mari Mancusi would make it even more amazing in book three. I mean, how is she going to bring something new into the vamp-crowd?
Too many sequels often kill a series, because it starts to get boring, the air is out or the reader just thinks: “Well, we had that before”
But Mari Mancusi proofed that there is another way.

“Girls that Growl” is the third instalment and it is definitely worth reading. It didn’t kill the series, it made it better.
This time Slayer Inc. sets Rayne on a new job: The Cheerleading Squad. Someone overheard the Pom-Pom swinging girls growling. So as tryouts approach Rayne is faced with something harder than defeating evil Vampires: turning from Goth into Girlie.
But trouble continues and evidence the Squad is more likely a pack, a werewolf-pack, aren’t making things better.

In their third adventure the McDonald twins are faced with new foes as well as new friends. But is everything really as it seems?

I wouldn’t say “Girls that Growl” is the best book of the series, but it is definitely as good as the others. The whole Blood Coven Series is something no Vampire-friend should miss, but if you are already pissed of all the vampires running around here it is not going to make you into a vamp-lover.
So all in all “Girls that Growl” is worth the money and definitely proved that the Blood Coven Series should continue. So now I’m waiting for the next one, and again it is “how is she going to top this?” :)

I'm still enjoying this cute and fluffy series, but this one seemed a little "off". We're still narrated by Rayne (which makes me happy) but the whole premise of her blog/journal is completely gone. Instead it's just a story in first person, which didn't really fit with the 2nd book. In addition, she is much more annoying about her Goth proclamations in this one.

Mari added another paranormal creature in this book, the werewolves. It was interesting at first, with Rayne blackmailing the cheer-leading team captain who was once her BFF to get into the group. Not that she likes it, she just wants to find out the truth behind the mysterious disappearances of two football players. I was a little perturbed by the way she treats Jareth in this book. My least favorite book in the whole series. This book seems like a filler episode that bore me. Rayne, the main character, was sent on a mission because members of the football team were missing. Rayne is a vampire slayer which is why she has to take on the job. To find out what happened to the football players, Rayne must joined the cheerleading team. Yes my friends, that means that even if you happened to pick this book up out of sequence, you'd still know what is going on. Isn't that fabulous? I thought so! This installment of Rayne and Sunny's misadventures focused on a new addition to their vampire world, the Lycan. I really enjoyed Mari Mancusi's close attention to the details that surround this lore, and was laughing out loud at the characters she crafted to fit this bill. Also enclosed in this gem of a book is a whole new Rayne. Oh no, I don't mean that she has lost her deliciously acerbic wit. Heaven forbid! Instead this book shows us a Rayne who is evolving, who is learning more about who she is and how she treats those around her. It was amazing to see her keep her same personality, while still being able to evolve. I now love Rayne even more!

What made this book a little difficult for me to read, and kept it from being my favorite in the series, was the extremely quick wrap-up of the overall storyline. I enjoyed the fact that the focus was on Rayne and her growth, but I missed the adventure part of it all. What made Stake That!, the book before this one, my favorite in the series was the rip-roaring storyline that it followed. I love following the twins on their crazy adventures, wrought with peril. Girls That Growl just felt like it ended too soon and I wondered where my butt-kicking, sassy Rayne had gone.

Overall I still completely enjoyed the book, and of course the ending once again totally roped me back in! Luckily I had the next book in the series right next to my bed and ready to go. Mari Mancusi definitely has a flair for the cliff hanger ending. I'm still in love. I'm still bitten and smitten!

For those of you who are already involved in this series, you'll find a lot to love in this book! For those of you who aren't....excuse me. Where have you been? Under a rock! Go out and get Boys That Bite right this minute! I'll wait.(less)

Rayne & Jareth went to England to find a cure for the cheerleaders. Jareth was wearing a batman shirt. The english coven who greeted them were girls. though they were making fun of Rayne. She had enough and told them that she was a slayer and she brought out her stake. The girls were surprised. Rayne & Jareth were kicked out of the coven. Jareth was mad at Rayne because she embarrassed him! He said they should breakup! and he left. Rayne was so upset so she went out to have a drink. She met a guy. She thought he was nice and handsome. He invited her to a rave in the woods. after that led her somewhere. Rayne followed since she had no idea how to get back. The guy was actually the "Lone Wolf" He brought her to his cave and said she'll be his queen. She tied her up and left. Rayne heard voices and they belonged to the missing football players who were Trevor and Mike. Rayne called for help! Jareth came and saved them! He also killed the lone wolf. Oh this Rayne...I don't think she'll ever stop surprising me: First a vampire slayer, and now a vampire?? A vampire vampire slayer? She's got quite a few titles there, now doesn't she?

10/18/11-10/22/11 Total for this week is 2hrs and 30 mins.
Rayne gets really sick because she had gotten infected with the disease that the evil vampire was trying to spread and kill all of the vampires in charge so that he could be the leader of all of them. Magnus almost got infected because the guy had gotten Magnus's blood donors infected. If Magnus were to drink the blood then he would of gotten really sick lost all of his powers and die. Rayne tells jareth that shes sick. he leaves for like 3 days. Rayne now hates Jareth it went from a total love to she love hates him. He came back with raynes dad who i might out said that he would go to sunny and raynes birthday with a cake and he didnt show he didnt even tell them he wasnt going to come. She had waited until 1 in the morning for him not to show. But her dad showed and she talked to him a little mad but happy to see him after like 4 years of her life with out him. then Jareth asked rayne if she wanted to get turned into a vampire and be his forever. she said yes, but because she has the disease they lost some vampire powers but they can go into the light now. Rayne now can finish high school with out problems.

Rayne had gotten told that she had to join the cheerleading squad. Yay. So Rayne asked Sunny for a total prep make over. Well she thought that she was joking but, sadly no. She goes to tryouts and meets this girl named Cait. She is sorta like Rayne in a way. They are both doing something that they would rather not do. Like Cait's mom was the captain of the cheerleading squad and she now wants Cait to follow in her footsteps. But Cait is really good though but she didnt make the squad last year because the other cheerleaders didnt like how she looked and she didnt have the same mean bone in her body like the rest of the cheerleaders did. But after tryouts ( by the way Rayne did completely terrible ) Rayne had black mailed Mandy so she let her and Cait on the squad.
MY TOTAL FOR THIS WEEK IS 2HRS 11/7/11-11/10/11
Rayne and Jareth found out why the cheerleaders are growling. There are growling because in england so they think they had met some really cute guys. ( they were there for there cheerleading compotition and these guys were showing them around england. They took the girls into the woods for like a bonfire get to know you thing. But the weird part is that the girls on the cheerleading squad dont remember that night at all. A couple nights ago after raynes first game for cheerleading they are changing in the locker room. Rayne just changes and gets out of the locker room. She felt a little sad because she is a cheerleader but she didnt get invited to the party. As shes walking out to go home she disides that going to the party could be the perfect time to go scope out and try to find out why the cheerleaders are growling. As she walking to the locker room door she could hear this weird noise. The locker room door wont open. Now she can hear the cheerleaders growling. At this point Rayne is pounding on the door yelling at them to open the door. She yells for help and jareth runs to get to rayne as fast as he can. He pulls open the door. The cheerleaders are gone but the locker room is completely trashed. Everything is broken and or damaged. Rayne and Jareth hear a small wimper for help. Cait was in the bathroom stall while they were trashing the locker room. Shes cut on her arm and wont let Jareth and rayne see it. Rayne thinks that she is infected. Rayne and jareth have to go to england to try to find a cure or else the slayer inc. is going to kill well put to sleep the cheerleading squad. YIKES!
11/28/11-12/1/11 MY TOTAL FOR THIS WEEK IS 1HR AND 30 MINS
Mandy came into the locker room and basically said that if rayne hadnt gotten cait on the squad they would be having this problem. just so cait heard mandy. She was trying to make cait feel bad. when cait heard that she ran out crying. when rayne found her she basically told ran to screw herself and to leave her alone. ouch. david raynes mom's boyfriend is getting pretty mean and annoying. He brings up a lot of touchy subjects all the time and it just makes rayne want to go cry. She absolutely postivively hates david. Im not so sure that i would like him myself.

Rayne was really upset because david was trying to play "daddy" with rayne, and rayne's mom took davids side. Rayne left in her and sunnys car. rayne called jareth her blood mate. He kept telling rayne to pull over because she was starting to scare jareth. Rayne refuzed to pull over and she hung up on him. Rayne into the guardrail. She was out cold.

rayne and jareth went to england to find a cure for the cheerleaders;. The vampires in the english coven are snobish and mean. Rayne hates them. They are beyond rude. They are making fun of her clothes. Where jareth and rayne are from the vampires wear all black they are extreme goths. But in england they wear designer clothes. What? Rayne felt so embarressed. Jareth didnt even defened her. He just expected her to take it. They even made it seem like having rayne as a blood mate must be afful. What jerks. Well anyways when they finally got invited in the snobish vampires gave rayne and jareth the tour. The coven was beautiful absolutely gorgeous. After the tour the all decided to go to the library for some drinks. The special wasvery exspensive bottled blood. Yummy. There was just one problem. Rayne is still on synthetics. Synthetics is fake blood made in a lab for the newbie vampires who arent ready to start drinking real blood yet. But it still gives you all the nutrience that you need, or that you would get from real blood. Rayne asked if they had any synthetics but no they didnt all they had was more rude comments. Rayne had gotten to the point where she had, had enough she couldnt take it any more. Rayne whipped out her carved stake from the summer and last year when she was officailly a vampire slayer. She was like who am I? Who am I? Im am rayne the vampire the vampire slayer baby. Jareth and rayne ended up leaving imedetly. Yikes. Tomorrow jareth and rayne are going to find some answers and hopefully a cure. Because if they dont find a cure then they have to put down all of the cheerleaders. At this point rayne was missing the cheerleaders. How sad. But i think that rayne is actully starting to like being a cheerleader. I think that when the assignment is over rayne is going to stay a cheerleader. Rayne seems to be enjoying it.

I finished the book. Rayned and jareth are so happy to be back together. Sunny was planning to have sex with magnus when she found out that he was getting a new blood mate. Plus she gorgeous. Sunnys pissed. Well thats all That I was able to get because i finished the book yay!

I really enjoyed this installment in the Blood Coven series more than the last. I found the characters to be more developed and the plot had more of a push to it.

I really found myself enjoying this book a lot more. I felt the plot had a point to reach and a bit more motive behind it than the previous book. There were several sub plots all going at once, and I really liked that.

Heads and tails (har har) better than Boys That Bite. Rayne isn't anywhere near as insufferable as Sunny was and holy crap! She's smart and deep! Yay for substance! Aside from the fact that she could be a downright bitch for no reason other than to keep up her Goth girl image, there's no doubt you get to see her morph into a better person throughout the course of the book. I did think there were a couple of departures from her character, though. Like the brand whoring that still existed, especially at the beginning of the book. What would someone like Rayne care about a Juicy tracksuit or an Armani suit? It just seemed to go against her as a person. But I like how the parallels were made between Mandy's elitism and Rayne's, and she had no idea it was even there. But once it was pointed out, it was obvious that Rayne very much stood by the notion that Goth was cool and everything else was crap, just the opposite of the people she shit on (and shit on her). I very much liked that message because you don't have to have a cashmere sweater tied around your shoulders to be elitist.

There was one chapter towards the end that definitely got a little wishy-washy and everyone was hugging and seemed like they were going to break out into a round of Kumbaya at any moment. I thought that was a little much but thankfully it wasn't the last chapter so it was a fleeting moment, I guess.

I was never really one for reading werewolf novels. I don't know. They just never interested me but I liked this one. The fact that the cheerleaders would go out and "party" and wake up the next morning and not be able to remember anything. It was a perfect cover even though they had no idea what was happening to them. Great excuse. And I love the antidote! Ha!

Rayne's constant reiteration of her gimp vampire status and Jareth being her blood mate were a little wearing, though. I got it after the first fifteen times that she was a vampire with a limp that was tied to this other limpy vampire. I really wish the matter wasn't pressed so hard and I wonder if anyone would actually think of those aspects that much.

I liked her relationship with Cait as well. Mancusi introduces a disorder into her story that I'm sure affects many, many teens but in the context of the book, I'm not sure how well it worked out. I couldn't help but think it was a little contrived. Was it in there just to be in there? Would someone in Cait's situation actually be doing that? Considering everything else going on, to introduce something like that didn't seem . . . appropriate, I guess. I mean, was it necessary? But despite that, Rayne's sticking by her side instead of calling her a freak and running away says something about Rayne. Her pushing Cait to get help says even more. Their friendship was probably my favorite relationship in the entire book

So yeah, skip Boys That Bite. It's as airy as cotton candy and just as filling. If you want a book that has a first person main character with depth, turmoil and more on her mind than labels and guys, you'll want to read this one. I guess it shows the stark differences between the twins but I just hope to god that Stake That! doesn't revert back to Sunny's POV. I might have to cry.(less)

Jareth has become a beach bum since he hasn't seen the sun in centuries and now can enjoy it without perishing in a ball of flames. Rayne is feeling a little distance between them since he isn't dark and brooding anymore. She also gets her new assignment from Slayers, Inc which is to infiltrate the cheerleading squad since there have been suspicious disappearances from the varsity football team and growling has been heard coming from the girls' locker room after cheerleading practice.

Rayne is what you could call a Goth Girl. Dark, brooding, tattooed, and pierced. Goths are considered the lowest rung on the social ladder of high school cliques. Cheerleaders are her enemy and getting on the squad isn't going to be easy. In fact, she has to rely on blackmail to get herself on the squad.

After seeing proof of the werewolf problem with her own eyes, Rayne and Jareth decide to track down the problem from where it originated. The cheerleaders went to a cheer competition in England and when they came back from the trip the strange occurrences and disappearances began. So, Jareth and Rayne make the trek to England to find the local Lycan pack to get to the bottom of everything. What they find is a rogue wolf that wants to start his own pack and is resorting to desperate measures to do so. Rayne and Jareth face many challenges and dangers on this trip that test their feelings for one another.

Read GIRLS THAT GROWL in order to find out if Rayne can save the day once again and whether or not she has what it takes to be a cheerleader and learn to live with a blood mate that would rather surf the waves than dance all night at raves.

I thought that this book was good at the beginning, but then sometime during the middle of the book I lost interest. I dont know why but I think the book just disinterested me. It actually took me five times to finish reading this book and each time I started at the beginning. Every time I read this book I always stopped at the same part. Overall, I gave this book a three, because it is actually a good book but the fact that it took me five times to read is ridiculous.
