This was one the books I had to read for my adult materials and services classes. I had to read books from genres I usually didn't read from in my leisure.
So...
Maxine was married to Blake, which dissolved when she found he was more devoted to his work than he was his family. Years later, she finds love with Dr. Charles West, whom she plans to marry. When Blake reappears in her life again, he seems to be a changed man, especially when he wants her to assist the survivors of a natural disaster(!)...more

OMG If this is what Danielle Steel books are like usually, why do people bother? Crap, total crap.
Either that or her editor was drinking a lot.
Steel writes over and over that Maxine is a psychiatrist dedicated to her kids and career, a real homebody. Her ex earned a fortune in the dot.com boom, got out in time and made a bigger fortune. He wanted to enjoy it and go gallavanting around the world. Dedicated doctor stayed dedicated to career and kids (Can we say repetitive?). She divorced him. They...more

A Booksquirm Book Club pick - and fortunately the first book voted off of the island. Our assignment was to read chapter 1. The following are my thoughts of the book based on that first chapter.
This chapter would have been shorter if the reader didn't have to experience daja vu while reading it. For example, on page 3 "she (Belinda) knew she would remember Blake and this moment for the rest of her life." And then on page 4 "It was a day and a moment that Belinda knew would be engraved in her min...more

"Never judge a book by its cover" is what comes to my mind when I think about Rogue. The gold letterings with a man on the front cover who is either crying or laughing (I really don't care!) is just made to impress making up to the reader for the rather lacklustre content inside.

The two of them were polar opposites: Blake was a handsome, rich rogue who loved to play, while Maxine was a renowned psychiatrist called in to assist with traumatized and suicidal adolescents.
Despite their differences, they loved one another, had three beautiful children, and then divorced. Their differences finally did them in.
It would be many years before Maxine would try again, but Blake moved seamlessly through his jet-setting world with gorgeous women on his arm. None of them lasted, thoug...more

This is the first Daniel Steel that I've read, and I am quite disappointed.
I liked the concept, because it's fresh on my part. A diversion from my usual lawsuits, medical drama, mystery and fantasy things... This time I gambled on a romantic side.
The sweet part here is that Steel colored American family differently from what the "usual American family" is. In "Rogue", the divorced couple became friends, in fact, they seemed best friends. The premise there is "opposites do attract", a playful, c...more

I have enjoyed many Danielle Steel books over the years, but unfortunately this one was so flawed that I repeatedly found myself distracted and taken out of the story.
It's classic Danielle Steel in some ways, but her habit of over-explaining and repetition really got in the way for me. It was made clear early on that Charles and Blake were very different, that 13-year-old girls are difficult, that Maxine had an important job and was an exceptionally good mother, that everyone loved her - Yet we...more

The book as a whole wasn't as good as I would have hoped. This was my first Danielle Steel book I have ever read, and it may be my last. She is very in-depth when describing her characters, and my reason for reading the book was the title. Rogue by definition is a person full of mischief and doesn't abide by rules, similar to my personality. I looked up to the character, Blake, for his ways of never settling down and traveling as a rich entrepreneur. The main character Maxine is in love with him...more

This was my first Danielle Steel novel. I was surprised by how much lack of descriptive details there were among character interactions; specifically the ones between the hero, Maxine, and the men in her life.
I was expecting something a bit more juicy, but instead I got some quick summaries of the events that were supposed to be juicy.
For example, in the middle chapters, there's a single sentence that was supposed to deliver passion and excitement: "It was everything___ hoped it would be, and...more

I did not like this book at all, everything was so rushed one minute the hero is in relationship with another woman is thinking of marrying her then he catches her with other man in his bed and then he goes back to ex-wife realises how good she is and the only woman for him(after sleeping with god knows how many women and also enjoyed having sex with each one of them)and stops her wedding and ex-wife takes him back just like that

The story was also okay. Of course, there were certain things I objected to, and some character developments were pretty sudden. Was an earthquake really all it took for a man that seemed somewhat self-absorbed, especially to the extent that Justine had led us to believe, to change his selfish ways? It seemed a bit sudden to me.
I was also surprised when it seemed like Justine was surprised at Charles' behaviour. It was something that he had shown from the first time they had met, and I would ha...more

The first few chapters were boring. The story has descriptions of what Maxine was doing in office(her clinic) about the patients and their ailments. They were over emphasised and redundant. They just got the book thicker. The story has a happy ending which could be easily guessed.I am not American, and hence I wonder if Americans are really the way DS has described in the book.I cannot imagine hosting my Ex-wife's rehearsal party. And I would never allow my GF or Fiancé to happily roam about with her...more

Yup. It's official. Danielle Steel's writing style has not changed since I was in high school. I do not know why I thought her books were SO hot back then, but clearly my tastes have changed, so I am deleting the remaining books by her (Or are they really written by her? I smell a ghost writer.) off my list to read based on my read of this one.

I listened to this book on CD, and the voices were AWFUL! Some of the characters came off as being completely obnoxious, although I don't think they would have been if I'd read it. I just couldn't stand listening to Charles talk. He sounded like a snobby, dorky old man. And her kids voices were terrible too! Her son jack sounded like a pot-smoking dope. And her daughter was equally annoying.
Other than the reader, I think it was an OK book. It passed the time while I drove, and it was not like a...more

Being married to Blake had been an amazing adventure for Maxine. Brilliant, charismatic, and wholly unpredictable, Blake Williams made millions and grabbed headlines as a dot-com entrepreneur. His only shortcoming was as a husband—first his work and then his never-ending quest for fun kept him constantly on the move, far away from Maxine and his family. For five years Blake and Maxine have worked out an odd but amicable divorce, with friendly though infrequent visits, a yacht he lends her every...more
I liked the story as I do the many books I have read by Danielle Steel but the more I read her lastest book the more I skim the first half becuz I feel she is killing time repeating herself. Seems almost like she has great ideas and just cranks them out anymore. Which is fine...for selling out and not giving us the Danielle Steel love in her books. Slow down and give us the good old fashion juice that we use to know and love. I gave it three stars becuz of respect and good storyline but......

→ This may be the most predictable book I have ever read. The scenes read like a cliche romantic movie, while somehow managing to not be romantic.
→ The writing is full of repetition. The line "She grew up, he didn't" is repeated over and over and over and over to make sure we get it, along with many others.
→ The heroine Maxine calls her ex-husband Blake her friend at one point, her brother at another point and then other times even 'her fourth child' (:$) So I am guessing if this book was longer...more

I think the book was overall, well written. My only criticism is that the books becomes redundant with Maxine's (the main character) views on her husband or her new man. I felt like every other page I was re-reading how the two men were polar opposites. I got it the first time. Other than that, I enjoyed the development of Maxine's character and seeing how she handled new burdens in her high stress lifestyle.
I wouldn't call this a page turner, but I enjoyed it.

Sometimes a book just charms you. This was one of those cases. I love the way the story was all woven together and then tied at the end with a pretty ribbon. There were hints at how it might end all through but it was still a pleasant affirmation and left me with a smile on my face.
As usual, Ms. Steel's female characters who are strong, capable women with real careers and all the life balancing of family and career, is refreshing and a welcome change.

Another "twinkie" book. A pleasant enough book to read at the beach. It didn't require any thinking and passed the time quickly enough. However, I did spend a large portion of the book wanting to shake the female protagonist 'til her shoes fell off for being so STUPID about a man she was planning to marry. But, in true DS fashion, everything was wrapped up with a nice bow at the end. Mild language and "intimacy." You won't suffer if you don't read this book.
I really should know better than to pick up anything written by DS expecting anything different from the tons of stuff that has come before. I have liked a few of her books in the past - A Perfect Stranger and The Ghost amongst that short list - but for the most part they're basically the same.
I know I've read more than my share of her when I begin to notice distinct similarities in characters from book to book.

This was not one of Steele's best novels. The storyline was a good one, but I didn't feel a connection with the characters at all. It was just a story with not much feeling. You know that feeling when a 4th grader tries to read out loud to the class and there is no heart and no feeling, just complete boredom? Yeah, that's what it felt like while reading this book. I was so disappointed because it could have been so much better.
Danielle Steel has written novels with richer characters and engaging plots. The book was an easy read and I enjoyed the tale of a fast paced single mother, easy to relate to. Disappointing was the intended evolution of the chauvinistic Blake and the imposed changes. I found the ending was rushed and not enough time spent persuading the reader of the attempted change from Rogue to responsible.
Her "theme" in this one was teen suicide -- dreadful! Her hero is unreal; her protagonist is too dislikable and too "pat." The heroine is perhaps a bit naive. And, it seems that Danielle had a word count she wanted to meet -- repetition of facts just provided on previous pages (and paragraphs) were insulting to my intelligence -- how many times had i needed reminders of the facts?!?!? But, i did finish it so ....
It was the typical Danielle Steel book, I needed something though before I went nuts and just joined this new library it was about to close in ten minutes so just grabbed something lol lol lol...... excuses excuses eh rofl. As far as romance fluff goes it was fine, filled my lack of a book void. I got a kindle coming to me next week cannot wait to play around with it no more waiting for nothing now !

Since 1981, Ms. Steel has been a permanent fixture on the New York Times hardcover and paperback bestseller lists. In 1989, she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having at least one of her books on the Times bestseller list for 381 consecutive weeks. But Guinness was premature. The fact is that one or more of Ms. Steel's novels have been on the New York Times bestseller list for...more
