This is as lavishly illustrated as all the Taschen books are: beautifully glossy photos that make me long to be back in Italy. The accompanying text is solid enough, but it's the photographs and the plans of various archaeological sites that make it worth its purchase price--and believe me, I wish I could afford the purchase price of a lot more of this series. Sigh.

This series has incredible photographs and is a great price. Really great books, but they are out of print now so you'll have to look around to find them.
