Over the past 20 years America has been steadily marching toward a diet that is more drenched in fossil fuel than any key nutrient. Experts estimate that it now takes roughly 7 to 10 calories of fossil fuel energy to bring one calorie of food energy to the American plate. Not only have our eating habits turned us into an increasingly overweight society, but the alarmi...more

I hate diet books; and even though "diet" is in the title of this book -- it's more a book about changing your lifestyle. It reminded me of all the environmental reasons I went vegan for eight years and has thus convinced me to start treating foods like dairy as a special occasion treat. And it's helping me to get more serious about eating locally & seasonally. Although it's sometimes presented in a disorganized fashion, it is SO FULL of really convicting information. I like how the...more

This book is packed with a ton of great and stunning information about the effects your food choices have on the planet. Read it just for the information and it would be well worth the time.

The 6-week diet plan is a little hard to figure out. I'm giving this 4 stars even though the author suggested to only eat ice cream a few times a year. She offers practical and realistic suggestions about how to incorporate organic and healthier foods into your diet. I immediately started buying organic milk & yogurt. I have not however gone two weeks without meat or cheese.

I found the premise interesting, but thought this was more of a diet book than a book about eating more responsibly.

Found this an easily understandable assessment of the resource cost of food production.

I read this book for the recipes and to learn about the food we eat. I am not trying to diet but just trying to eat cleaner food. I thought this book was well written and easy to understand. Kate had a lot of good tips in this book.
