a friend of mine recommended this to me and let me borrow it as I prepared for the arrival of our first baby. it was a quick read, finished it in about an hour. while amusing at times, I didn't get much out of it. in fact, it left me more discouraged and sad that so many of these women seem to resent their kids and have such negative views on their relationships with their husbands after years of parenting. granted I am not yet a parent - but will be any day - maybe I just can't relate yet... bu...more
I loved this book. It gave me a true guilty pleasure of knowing that I was not alone in my twisted thoughts of child rearing. This ranges from the truth of the five second rule to the bizarre things you never thought you'd say such as "One day you will LIKE having testicles."
My favorite anticdote of our own life is the day my daughter got a orange TicTac stuck up her nose and we opted to not go to the hospital, no insurance, I figured it would melt if her nose was running and since she was cryi...more

True Mom Confessions by Romi Lassally (pp. 256)
This compilation of essays and anonymous posts from a popular motherhood blog is loosely organized by general subject matter, but really is just a shuffled grouping of excerpts of posts with little form – much like a blog. The premise being that moms need a place to vent and that anonymity would create honesty resulting in minor catharsis. Other projects such as the post card project have done this concept much better.

I thought this was absolutely adorable. I even heard Mike giggling as he was thumbing through it. It's a very quick read (maybe 2 hours) and would be a great gift for a friend who is in the hospital having another child. I think that a first time mom wouldn't appreciate it as much. There were parts I could relate with, parts I was shocked at, and parts that just made me laugh out loud. I really loved the parts that made me feel like I was mother of the year for never having thought that.
You can read this book in about half an hour -- the bulk of it is quotes taken from the website www.TrueMomConfessions.com, along with several short essays which are pretty good.
I did like this one confession a lot -- it was in the category of body image:
I am fat and glorious. I won't let anyone tell me otherwise on either account. I make it all happen around here and I do it with style. My big ass is good at everything I need to do. That's all I'm saying.

I was cracking up over this book. There are things I've done as a mother that I think afterward, "oh, what would DCFS say about that!" Not seriously, of course. But this book had a ton of funny stories about things that other moms have done that would also warrant a visit from the authorities. Some of them are sad, but most of them are pretty hilarious and I can see some of myself in there. I read it in about 45 minutes.
Kind of fun, kind of depressing. On the one hand, it's comforting that other moms have the same kinds of fears/ideals/let downs/etc, but dude some of those confessions are just sad! Made me feel better about myself overall, and that's kind of nice isn't it?
Probably wouldn't recommend it to a friend. . .

Some of the confessions in this book were sad, but a lot of them were very funny. I found myself laughing out loud from time to time. I could relate to some of the things that some of the moms revealed. It was a nice, fun, quick and entertaining read. This book was a lot more hilarious than I thought it would be.
