As a writer and a English teacher, I have read many instructional texts on the art of writing. Some of these are outstanding, but most I end up at least enjoying. But The Virginia Woolf Writers' Workshop could possibly be one of the very best.

The book begins as a delightful premise: What if the daring innovator Virginia Woolf could speak to us today? What sage advice would s/he give aspiring writers? (As I read, I couldn't help but imagine what Whitman would teach, what Eliot, what More...

Fantastic book! Riddled with quotes from Woolf and several writing sparks that will prove quite useful to just about any writer, regardless of their level of expertise. I probably finished this in bits and pieces over the course of 3 days. I'll be using this book often for reference materials...

this was a really neat concept: how would virginia woolf conduct a modern-day writer's workshop. it is a fictionalized scenario using much of woolf's wisdom and many witticisms on writing and the profession of writing.

This is written as if Woolf is teaching a writing workshop to modern-day students. Jones did a great job of weaving together things that Woolf actually said/wrote and creating a plausible and helpful advice for writers. A great read, quick and fun. A great insight into the more cheerful side of Woolf and wonderful advice for writers. Also tons of writing prompts at the end of each chapter.

This book was a really fun and inspiring book about writing. After studying Virginia Woolf's essays, diaries, biographies, etc., she wrote this book as if VW was giving a series of lectures on writing to a group of students, using actual quotes and ideas about writing that VW had expressed. There's lots of documentation in the back of the book, so you can go look up the sources yourself. I loved it, and thought she did a good job of capturing what I perceive to be VW's voice and style.
