Great illustrations and four lines to each animal/letter. might be a little to long to go through all 26 letters might be done just by each letter.

This is a very cute book that I would like to use in my classroom for learning and fun. Learning rhyming words, animals, and realizing reading is fun, is what...more

LOVED this. It was recommended to me by a friend and its a real jem! It will definitely be added to our personal library. It has cute illustrations, rhymes (which all kids like), and is alphabet as well as animal oriented. I think I read it to my kids like 8 times the first day we brought it home. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with children!

This is an interesting alteration on the ABCs. The titular sister hugs an animal from each letter of the alphabet, with varying results. Some of the illustrations are goofy, others clever, and some a little bland. Some kids may enjoy this, but it runs a little long with a verse for each letter.

My Little Sister Hugged an Ape was a really cute book. I would use it in a preschool or kindergarten classroom when introducing or reviewing the alphabet. Plus, the letters are associated with an animal which helps kids identify all the letters and assiciate a picture to it.

Some ABC rhyming books are a stretch to make the rhymes work. The text here continues to be fun and quirky. Fun to guess what the next animal might be for each letter. Big fan of illustrator Kevin Hawkes. Lots of energy to this book.

Fun, rhyming alphabet book. I gave it five stars because the author didn't use typical animals (cat, dog, etc).

Recommends it for: 2nd-4th grades
"My Little Sister Hugged an Ape" is a hilarious book of poems, written as a complete story, which goes through various animals, in ABC order, with a poem on each page, accompanied by great pictures. The 4th graders loved it. I think some 2nd graders could read it. The first line of every poem is "My Little Sister Hugged a(n)_____" so it gets repetitive, and the kids can try guessing what's on the next page. I think it could be fun as a read-aloud down to pre-school. The repet...more

This was my alphabet book.

I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations were bright and colorful, as well as very animated, which children will enjoy. I feel like this book did a really good job of giving children something they could associate with each letter of the alphabet, in this case different animals. It was funny, and well written, and I would definitely recommend to my students.
Kathy
Great alphabet book for school visits. Let the kids guess what animal will get hugged for the next letter!
