In the past I've read several Danielle Steel books and have always enjoyed them, but it's been ages since I've read one. The story was the type I like to read - following a family over the years. In this case the time period was the 1940's - 80's starting with WWII and Hollywood glamour. This book was a little more controversal on the family subjects it touched: drugs, homosexuality, flower children in the Haight, May - December romance, teenage pregnancy. Also, it began on a sad note with a fun...more

I went through a Danielle Steel phase in my prepubescent years. Lining multiple shelves on my mom's bookcase, they were readily available. This is the only one that sticks out in my memory, and that's because I think it actually had more to offer than the quickly-read-and-forget-so-that-you-won't-remember-that-in-the-three-months-time-it-takes-for-the-next-Danielle-Steel-novel-to-come-out-you-won't-recall-that-the-story-has-been-recycled.

Okay, maybe that's a bit unfair. Maybe Danielle Steel isn'...more

I cared way too much about the characters in this story. But you can't help it. They are so thoroughly described that you feel like you've known them for years. This is a story about Ward & Faye as they raise five very different children and the ups and downs families go thru. Well I should say this is a story about Faye as she raises six children because out of all the kids Ward by far was the most spoiled and childish man, husband and father I've seen. Every time something major affected t...more

This has to be one of my favorite Danielle Steel books. It was very interesting and talks about how much a single woman has gone through. The drama she encounters through life is incredible. She still manages to keep a positive attitude and that is what's great.

I love this book! I haven't read it in years so I guess it's time for a re-read. Well worth the time.

I've found that I like epic stories and this delivers on that, following an entire family for 30 years or so. The characters were interesting, but I felt like everything was glossed over with the exception of tiny little snapshots of their lives. I would have preferred more detail, show me don't tell me. I would happily read something like this as three books in a series if that's what it takes to tell the story right.

Also, I read a legit ebook version of this book, but it was filled with typos...more

ISBN 0440124344 - Oddly, I seem to be on a roll, reading books that begin during WWII and end in the next generation! Steel's done better, but it's a good story. The problems are more in the details than the storyline - Ward is an engaging, charming man one moment, and a petulant, spoiled child the next. Faye is a strong, capable woman, but it's hard to imagine that any strong, capable woman would put up with Ward's reactions to things not going his way. Most of the family falls in love with the...more

I just came by a stack of old books in my mother's boudoir when I saw this maroon red paperback of Danielle Steel's Family Album. At first I thought, for me with it's unusual cover, that it was really an album, you know with lots of pictures on it. I thought it was silly but I realize I was the silly one when I opened it and found out it was a novel. But then, because of my meddlesomeness to odd things, I decided to read it(apparently my first Danielle Steel read).

So...I find this book engaging...more

This is the first Danielle Steel novel i've ever read, and I really appreciate this author's books.
About "Family Album", I found it beetween my mother old books, and it was a surprise. I really liked the plot, the characters were well-developed and easy to understand, I was excited for all of their stories and I grew up with the characters.
The setting may don't seem the best and Faye Prince may seem a simple ambitious actress , but page by page you can discover that's not like this. All the memb...more

From World War II to the present day, Danielle Steel told us another captivating story about family in this historical romance in Family Album. Faye Price Thayer was a legendary actress in Hollywood, then had her own family. Later she would realize her own dream to come true as one of Hollywood's first women directors. Her five children was precious to her. In a changing world, they would be challenged the hardest test imaginable, when they bonded by love and loyalty. When Faye passed away, the...more

Sweet story. While reading the book you want to be like Faye Price. Emotional but very strong woman.
The ups and downs in the life of characters kept the flow alive.

Danielle Steel books are a guilty pleasure for me...I've read them all and will continue to re-read them. There are hardly ever surprises which is both good and bad - but they are kind of like crack - once you start reading them you keep going back. This one is middle of the road - but family stories in hollywood are always amusing for a fast read on a rainy day.

No really, when I was in high school I wanted to see what the Danielle Steele thing was all about, so I gave it a whirl. It's not a bad book or anything, it's just not terribly interesting, and I don't want to be one of "those women" that read Danielle Steele to the exclusion of all else. Besides, I've already got my crap fiction quota full of Nora Roberts.

The story was good for the drama, but I felt the characters were shallow, and I never really became interested or felt anything for them. Sometimes it seemed a little overdone and cheesy, but I then again it was written by a romance writer. This is the first Danielle Steele book I have ever read. This would make a good Lifetime Channel movie.

As usual the characters are all tortured but extremely rich. It is a similar plot but it works. I keep reading.

Over all the book was good. It has a great plot, and the way the family overcomes their struggle gives so much hope to everyone. There is so much detail that you can feel what each character is feeling, which can be a good thing, but for the many sex scenes in this book, I felt that it was a little too graphic.

I didn't know what to expect from this book as it was the first from Danielle Steel... I thought it would be just a love story but there were some situations on the book that made me think if it happened to me how would I deal with it, what would I think, feel and do, specially regarding the kid, John.
Sheila
This book was exactly what I thought it was going to be, only worse. Which, of course, is why I liked it. First B-movies and now crappy fiction. I’m doomed. Seriously though, the only reason I read the book was because I had seen the movie. They have almost nothing in common.
Brandy
This book on the otherhand was very good. The characters were fantastic and the story was great. I loved the whole Hollywood aspect and the way she gave it up for the family. The five children were great also. Each one was developed well with its' own great storyline.
Tonya
I have read all of the Danielle Steel books and this one remains in my top five. Love the complex characters and the love story that is not perfect but true to real life in their struggles. The family members are not always kind to one another, but they are family.

Actually one of the first couple of books I read by DS...Im not the biggest fan of hers, my mother is/was. I saw a few of her books on her shelf and picked one up out of boredom some years ago. I liked it...read them more as a teenager but still liked it.
Jennifer Morefield
I enjoyed the book. It was a bit predictable. Romances are not my favorite genre and feel that they are often predictable and kind of trite, but it kept my interest and was enjoyable. A four is a respectable rating, and I would recommend it.

I took this book to camp with me to share the torrid love scenes with my cabin mates. I remember reading it aloud to my two friends as they paddled me along in a canoe on one of our three-day trips during the summer of 1995. Such great memories.

Since 1981, Ms. Steel has been a permanent fixture on the New York Times hardcover and paperback bestseller lists. In 1989, she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having at least one of her books on the Times bestseller list for 381 consecutive weeks. But Guinness was premature. The fact is that one or more of Ms. Steel's novels have been on the New York Times bestseller list for...more
