This is the first Danielle Steele novel that I actually completed. My mom gave it to me after she was done with it, urging me to read it even after I ignored her. I am glad she did.
Journey is a story or shall I say a third person account of not only Maddy Hunter but a lot of women around the world. Although the narrative keeps dragging at bits, emphasising a bit more on the romantic parts rather than the real message at hand, it still managed to deliver a great lesson on the different types of...more

'Journey' tells the story of a thirty-something tv news reporter who, on the surface, appears to have it all--the loving husband, the successful career and the best of everything in between. But it's only seven years into her marriage and things begin to slowly but surely fall apart. Little by little Maddie Hunter begins to see, but consequently deny, that her marriage and her husband, are not what she always thought them to be. Her marriage is one in which her husband controls everything with an...more

Oh my God my mother-in-law AND father-in-law are insisting I read this simply because I mentioned that one of my employees is in an abusive relationship. I think they even got a little teary eyed when describing it.

It's been sitting face down on my to read pile for a month now. Somehow, I can't quite bring myself to pick it up, though I should be able to finish it in an hour and therefore be quit of it forever.

God help me.

I hate to give Ms. Steel a so-so rating, but I wasnt impressed. I didnt read the back cover of this book to know what it was about, but immediately I picked up on the dialog between the main character and her husband as abusive. The message is great, the lesson is there but here is the main reason why I didnt like it... The main character only seems to be secure enough to move on when she has someone else in her life. They say patterns repeat themselves and here we see that again. She leaves her...more

This is the first ever Daniele Steel book I have read. I was surprised by how good it was. Originally I bought this book for my mom because Danielle Steel is her favorite author. I ended up reading it just to try it and I'm glad I did. I thought that this book is not a normal love story. There is so much more than that. I actually cried when I read it and that literally never happened before. I think that anyone would like this story because I normally wouldn't read stuf like this and I loved it...more

I've read quite a number of Danielle Steel's books and while a some of them are predictable, they are good reading. For me, Journey was one of her best books. I read it twice - the first time in one day.
and I was so incensed I had to read it again. The book had a message about a problem that is all too common - abuse. Physical or emotional abuse is bad and should not be tolerated from anyone; as perpetrators of abuse are nothing more than cowards. Danielle Steel did a great job in highlighting...more

This book was disturbing, yet revealing. Steel brings to light that there are many forms of abuse- and they aren't always found in a trailer park. Abuse comes in all forms and from all places- and Journey certainly highlights that. I was appalled at how Jack treated Maddy, and even more appalled that she stayed and took it for so long. Even though the book ends happy, I still wouldn't recommend it to anyone, as it was a complete downer for me. I realize that Steel was trying to make a statement...more

this is one danielle steel book that needs a clap. it was really interesting and centered on the lives of abused women. its so realistic especially that bomb explosion and annie's death that i couldnt help crying. the final pages ran real quick and i wanted to read more but the book ended very satisifyingly.
I AM A PURE FEMINIST AND CANNOT CONTROL MYSELF WHEN I REALIZE A CONTEXT OF WOMEN ABUSE. HECK, SOMETIMES MEN GET TO MY NERVES.

Maddy has always tried to deny Jack’s subtle put-downs, control, and jealousy. She has no bruises, only the daggers of fear, humiliation, and isolation — as powerful as the gun or the fist, the wounds as deep. It seems impossible that a woman the nation idoliz...more

Why can a Danielle Steel female character never stay strong on her own? Why is there always a man to "complete her happiness"? I haven't read one of her books in years and will go many more without reading her again. The theme of her book- abuse- is a relevant one. However, I believe that Steel failed as an author by allowing her main character to participate in an affair before ending her abusive marriage and then by not permitting her main character to experience life as a single, strong woman...more

Why Can't there be negative stars for rating?? seriously.. this was the most predictable, boring and any-awful-adjective-for-a-book-you-can-think-of I've ever read. And yes I finished the book, thinking the plot would be more interesting in the middle... But it didn't changed at all.. as it gets deeper and deeper, it becomes more and more predictable. This was the 1st and last book I read from Danielle Steel, I was thinking of reading other of her works. But I'm too scared it would be just the s...more

This book was good, really emotionally charged and I found myself getting angry and upset after I would finish it. Which kind of pissed me off, so I had to read it really fast to get it out of my head, if that makes any sense. But it was decent. Steel seems to repeat information in her book, little details that pop up 7 or 8 times in a story that get annoying. Its as if she thinks readers would forget these details but we don't. So we don't need to be reminded of them. We got it.

i liked it very much it's actually one of my favourite what Maddy had been through is trully hard but she finally managed to survive and she had the guts to escape from her husband she gets the chance to change her life and to dream about an other future i discovered that the human beeing can be week but whith help and hope we can get what we want We only have to believe in ourselves ,have faith and courage cause life is just an uphill battle ...

OMG,I loved this book.It just goes to show that words can hit as hard as a fist. And that sometimes emotional scars last forever.I believe this book could save many lives and in the process educate people that abuse does'nt always mean hitting.Words hurt to.Words can leave a lasting impact on the one being abused.I loved the ending becouse Maddy finaly finds happieness with an older man named Bill Alexander who shows her that not all men are the same.

This book was ok/good. I had mixed feelings. I read it in 1 day. Her books do suck you in, but this one was just the same thing over and over again. I'm sure that's how it is for abused women in real life, but it was hard to relate to the main character. I Just thought she was stupid most of the time. The war w/Iraq was a real coincidence in it.

An interesting read about Maddy Hunter, a TV newscaster. Maddy grew up with an physically abusive father and then wed a physically abusive husband. Now Maddy is married to a wealthy and politically correct husband. Maddy comes to realize that not much as changed except for the type of abuse; it's now mental abuse!

I really liked this book and I thought that it dealt with the subject matter with integrity and honesty. I could really identify with the main character in this book and I think that this is different to a lot of romantic type novels in the genre. It is a very well written book and I would not hesitate to read it again.

A good look inside one woman's journey out of an abusive marriage. It's not the kind you expect, he's rich, powerful and well known, and never hits her, but abuses her and controls her in other ways. Of course there is the obligatory fairy tale ending, but is deeper than most of Steel's books.

I'm not a fan of DS and 1 star is being generous for this book. The only reason I read it was because a co-work pleaded with me to give DS another try and raved what a wonderful book this was. I made a deal with her to read it if she would read something I chose for her. Well I read it. *sigh* DS still needs to hire a new editor or proof reader or something. Her grammar is horrible. Plus I really, really disliked the fact that the jerk was just going to be turned over to the lawyers. That was no...more

I'm listening to this book. I started it on 03/21/2009. I quit listening to this book on 03/24/2009.

I don't know what my deal is with books lately but I listened to the first CD of this one and didn't care to put in the second CD. Maybe I'll try again sometime.

I read this back in high school (over 7 years ago) and this story still resonates with me. I've read a lot of Danielle Steele but this is the one I remember the name of because it was just such a wonderful story.
Mary Taitt
I liked this a lot, it's my favorite book of hers so far, good topic, nicely explored, still repeats herself and says things like "they had no other choice" but this one is better than some of the others.

money can buy anything but happiness, dignity and love
sometime even being smart independent woman doesnt mean we can easily acvept the true the fact even it standing right infront of our own eyes.
Gayle Sanders
I found this book rather ordinary. It did deal with an important issue - domestic abuse, however, it felt dated and pedantic. An ok beach read, but nothing special.
Susan Thompson
This book deals with a very serious topic of subtle abuse which is just as bad or worse than physical abuse. However I found the book too predictable and sappy at the end.
Nicole
I wanted to read something by this very popular author just to see what she was like, unless this is a fluke, I do not think I will read any more by her!
Sally Witt
Depressing at times, but an important story about abuse and violence against women.
Judy
Truly a good read about mental/emotional abuse -- upsetting, for sure, but enlightening!

Since 1981, Ms. Steel has been a permanent fixture on the New York Times hardcover and paperback bestseller lists. In 1989, she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having at least one of her books on the Times bestseller list for 381 consecutive weeks. But Guinness was premature. The fact is that one or more of Ms. Steel's novels have been on the New York Times bestseller list for...more
