I keep reading these parenting books thinking that it will give me some completely different approach, but they are all similar (at least the newer ones, the ones from the 50s seem to emphasize much more spanking but i dont listen to those as much). Listen to your kids, empathize, dont be a dick and they like discipline (not the smacky kind, just the i give a shit and we are not equals/friends kind). fortunately neither of my daughters has come to me with a "fuck you i like giving blow jobs...more
First, why did I read this book? Our youth minister, an amazingly caring, dynamic and beloved individual, recently left the church to follow her dream of starting a boarding school for troubled youth. When she left, she gave this book to every family in the group of teens she worked with at the church. So, I figured it might be an important book.

Great resource for parents. Helps to realize times have changed in parenting. The author is a counselor and lecturer. He recounts stories and presents useful information regarding teenagers especially. Often times an authoritative parenting mentality will only push a child to looking for a second 'family' to find comfort.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who has, or works with kids today!
What is important to remember? The fact that YOU HAVE TO PARENT YOUR CHILDREN AND TEACH THEM MORALS or they will have none.
